  1. Great player Halle. Didn't he play in the 1994 World Cup when he was a Latics player? Can't be many who can say they played at a World Cup while on Latics' books. One of our Jamaican lads did too?
  2. I'll always love Smith for that FA Cup madness - as I said at the time, his goal against Everton at home sparked a reaction from me that was even more ecstatic than any I've had in football before, including my country at World Cups. He headed home a rare but truly glorious moment. It'll be a long time before we see it's likes again. So good luck to the lad.
  3. I voted in - though this season has gone from waiting to gel, to staring at disaster - just because I can't think of a better realistic alternative.
  4. £5 for every league table position we finish above the relegation zone at the end of the season. To cover the possibility of hexing the entire club as opposed to just the strikers, I'll pledge £10 for every league table position we finish below the safety zone should the worst happen.
  5. Well, I backed Rooney and he flopped, I backed Stead and he flopped (except when I backed him not to score) so I'll take responsibility for them - but I've nothing to do with the likes of Feeney and all the others over the years!
  6. Five quid paid over Stead not scoring - I'm going to come up with new pledges, all my pledges have hexed our strikers!
  7. We can't just take that classic off a legend like Ritchie and pin it on Harkins.
  8. Time for a one off pledge from me - £5 for every goal Stead scores today. I hexed Rooney - hope I haven't just ruined Stead...
  9. Remember that thing where the club offered fans the chance to have their pic on a mosaic of his dive celebration? There was an amusing couple of posts about who'd have their pic on his nether-regions... Anyway, I can't imagine many people signed up to it, so the idea must have taken a dive... Anyone on here pay money to be part of a mosaic that would probably barely cover his nether-regions?
  10. I was at BP for a match against Millwall in (I think) 1997. There was a punch up involving all players and even the ref got a smack. I recall it being so windy our keeper had to save one of his own goal kicks as it blew back at him.
  11. I completely rely on Latics Player - and I love it, especially on days like today. It can be depressing when we're losing - but I can't blame the commentators for that!
  12. I agree - really captured the atmosphere today.
  13. Anyone who left at half time today can't whinge about the lack of entertainment for the rest if the season.
  14. Cliff Byrne gone, Adam Rooney gone, I'm going to have to come up with a new main pledge.
  15. That's a good post. A bit of perspective. I think we'll stay up this season. I think we'll be midtable next season. After that, haven't a clue. Anything can happen in football. I'll still be a Latics supporter though.
  16. This reminds me of when I was a lad 'watching' matches on the teletext (or cefax as it's called in the UK?)... Most of the time it was so scrambled the score would be something like OL;)@HAM& 2:45 EVRTN&&&&&&

  18. No offence intended to my Northern Irish pals but I wouldn't be surprised at us signing a current Northern Ireland international. But I would raise an eyebrow of surprise if we signed a current Republic of Ireland international.
  19. I'd be very surprised if we signed a full Ireland international (even if he is on the fringes of the squad)... £10 to playershare if this happens.
