  2. As an exile, my parents used to send to me by post Jim's reports on Latics, and I have many fond memories of a very fine writer and reporter. RIP Jim.
  3. NOTE: This information may be out of date in an ever-changing world. Cambridge United FC, The Abbey Stadium, Newmarket Road, Cambridge CB5 8LN Visiting supporters are allocated tickets either in the all-seated South Stand with a capacity of 1,500, or in the South Habbin Terrace which has a capacity of 1,000. Entrances to both stands are located on Coldhams Common which supporters can access either from Newmarket Road or Coldhams Lane. From the club shop, head back out on to Newmarket Road, turn left and then turn left again to walk down the foot path and enter at the far end of the ground. Disabled persons’ facilities: If you require disabled parking please call the Club on 01223 566 500. Full details of facilities: https://www.cambridge-united.co.uk/club/club-policies/disability-policy/ How to get there: By Road: From the South: M11 to Junction 14, then turn east along the A14 dual carriageway. From the North: A14 from Huntingdon, then turn east along the A14 dual carriage way. Exit the A14 at the fourth junction (situated east of Cambridge), up the slip road to the roundabout (signposted Stow-Cum-Quy). Turn right onto the A1303, and return westwards towards Cambridge. Go straight over the first roundabout, passing Marshall Airport to the left. Go straight over two sets of traffic lights to a roundabout. The floodlights can be seen from here and McDonald's is on the right. Turn left onto the ring road. Turn right at the first roundabout (a large Sainsbury's is on the left here) and go along Coldham's Lane. After half a mile, immediately after the traffic lights turn right into Coldham's Road before the railway bridge. Car Parking: There is no on-site car parking available at the Abbey Stadium. Parking is limited to side streets. The Club advises use of the match-day park and ride service. By Park and Ride: From the Newmarket Road Park & Ride. There is a special £2.50 return bus ticket to and from the ground. The ticket is valid for one passenger only. However, if travelling with children, the normal £3 Park & Ride ticket is also available to purchase, allowing children under the age of 16 to travel free with one fee-paying adult. Ahead of the 3pm kick-off, football fans can catch any of the regular Park & Ride buses heading into the city centre, which will all be stopping at the ground. On the return leg, there will be a dedicated bus waiting in the layby outside the stadium at 4.45pm, to take fans back to the Park & Ride. By Bus: A Citibus C3 bus stops within a few yards of the ground (Ditton Walk stop) on Newmarket road and runs from Cambridge Railway Station and through the city centre every ten minutes during the day, and at longer intervals in the evenings. By Train: Cambridge Station: Cambridge Rail station is located in the city centre and is a 25-30 minute walk from the ground. Walk away from the station along Station Road and take the first right (Tenison Road). Take the first right again (Devonshire Road), follow this round to the left, up to the next junction. Turn right again onto Mill Road. Walk over the railway bridge, then take the third left (Sedgewick Street). Follow this road, pass a set of traffic calming barriers, and shops (at this point you are in Cromwell Road) to a T-junction (Coldham's Lane). Ahead of you should be a large field (Coldham's Common). Go into this field and follow a path under the railway bridge to the away turnstiles. Cambridge North: There is also Cambridge North Station nearby in Chesterton. However, not every train stops there and it is approximately a 30 minute walk to the ground. Coming out of Cambridge North Station, turn to the left and walk through the Bike Parking area and onto the Cycle/Footpath running parallel with the train tracks. This leads to a cul-de-sac called Moss Bank. On exiting Moss Bank, turn right on Fen Road. Continue straight on Fen Road (and later Water Street) for about half a mile until you reach the Green Dragon Pub. At the pub, cross the river via the footbridge and then cross over Stourbridge Common to join Oyster Row and Garlic Row. At the end of Garlic Row you will join Newmarket Road. Turn left, cross over the railway lines and you will see the stadium on your right. Where to Drink: There is a Supporters’ Club at the ground that normally allows in away supporters. The club charges a £2 entrance fee and also serves food. There is little choice for away fans in the way of a pre-match pint near the ground. Along Newmarket Road, going to towards the city centre, is the Wrestlers pub, which also offers Thai food. Otherwise it may be better to drink in the centre of Cambridge. From the ground, walk for just over a mile (approx. 20 minutes) down Newmarket Road then take a left into East Road (A603). Just past KFC on the right is Dover Street and here, well tucked away, is a little gem of a pub, The Tram Depot CB1 1DY with some off-street parking nearby. It is a character pub offering a broad selection of beers and lagers, with meals and snacks. However, the pub prefers that you keep team colours covered. Where to Eat: There are Tea Bars located at the rear of both the South Stand and South Habbin Stand, serving hot food including hot dogs, beef and chicken burgers, chips and pies, with hot and cold drinks, chocolate bars and bags of crisps also available. There is also an additional catering unit to the left of the South Stand which away supporters will find immediately to their right once entering the turnstiles. The Club advises away supporters that roughly £5 to £6 should cover the cost of an item of hot food and a drink. 'Mr Chippy' on Newmarket Road is a few minutes’ walk in the direction of the city centre (turning left from the front of the ground). Ten minutes’ walk in the other direction is a McDonald’s.

  7. A dream come true for a player who has played for the only Spanish club named Athletic to play for the first British Club to be named Athletic. I've got Basque blood in my DNA so I welcome him as one of our own! https://www.flickr.com/photos/diego_sideburns/albums/72157626769237152
  8. Don't know about being "a bit shit" but agree with the rest.
  9. He scored 17 in 38 and 5 in 16 for Mirandes, whereas Diego Cervero scored 23 in 37 for the same club. Just sayin’!
  10. NOTE: This information may be out of date in an ever-changing world. Macclesfield Town FC, Moss Rose Stadium, London Road, Macclesfield SK11 7SP Visiting supporters are in the Big Brand Ideas Stand which has a capacity of up to 403 seats and the John Askey Terrace, which has a standing capacity of 1530. If appropriate, pay on the day supporters will need purchase a ticket at the Away Ticket Office, which is located immediately to the left of the ground next to the Silkmen Café, and is open from 1pm. All student supporters will be asked to provide proof of ‘student’ status at the turnstile when entering the ground. Disabled persons’ facilities: Wheelchair user facilities are in the away section of the Big Brand Ideas stand. The Club charges the full price for ambulant disabled supporters and for wheelchair users. Where disabled supporters require assistance, their helpers will be admitted free of charge. Disabled persons’ tickets must be booked at least 24 hours in advance of kick-off. How to get there: By Road: From the North (M6) Exit the M6 at junction 19 (Knutsford) and follow the A537 to Macclesfield. Follow the signs to the Town Centre. The ground is signposted from the town centre but, if in doubt, follow the signs towards Leek (A523). The ground is about one mile out of town on the Leek road A523 with the stadium is immediately in front of you. From the North (Manchester/M62+M60) Leave the M60 at Stockport and follow the A6 until the road forks. Take the right-hand fork signposted Macclesfield (A523). Follow this road past the town until you reach the end of the dual carriageway. The ground is roughly 1.25 miles on your right. OR Leave the M60 at J3 Cheadle and follow the A34 following the signs for Macclesfield and 'Other Routes'. From the South (M6) Exit the M6 at junction 17 (Sandbach) and follow the A534 to Congleton. From here take the A536 to Macclesfield. After passing the Millers pub on the left, continue for about 1/4 of a mile and take the first right after the speed-camera onto Moss Lane. Follow Moss Lane until you reach the ground. Continue along Moss Lane past the ground and round a right-hand bend to the away end of the ground. From the East (Buxton) Come into Macclesfield on the A537 (Caution as it is reportedly the most dangerous road in the country). At the bottom of the hill with the station opposite, turn left onto the dual carriageway. Then as above. Car Parking Although the Club does not have a car park for visiting supporters, there is ample road side parking in the immediate areas around the ground. The Club asks supporters to be advised to check for double white and yellow lines. The Club says a very safe place to park is in the Lyme Green Retail Park, which is only about 300 yards South of the ground down the London Road or on the London Road itself. Coach Parking Although the Club does have the provision to park 3 coaches (free of charge) on Moss Lane outside the away supporters' terrace, the Club would be pleased to arrange additional coach parking spaces for visiting supporters. If there are more than 3 visiting supporters’ coaches, please contact the stadium manager at least a day before hand at stadium@mtfc.co.uk. By train: The nearest station is Macclesfield. Leave the station and turn left up Sunderland Street until you reach a major crossroads at the war memorial. Take the left here and follow for roughly a mile. The ground is immediately in front of you. By Bus: You can also catch a bus up to the ground from the new bus station in the town centre. To reach the bus station from Macclesfield railway station, cross the main road outside the station using the pedestrian crossing, turn right and then turn left by the car showroom into Waters Green and follow this road up the hill (Queen Victoria Street) to the bus station on the left. Buses returning from the ground stop on the main road outside the railway station. Service 9 Moss Rose circular: Every 30 minutes Service 14 Langley – hourly. Where to drink: The Keith Alexander Bar at the ground admits both home and away supporters. It is located in the Henshaw's Stand next door to the Sammy McIlroy Suite and serves hot food. The closest pub is the Golden Lion, which is just under a ten-minute walk from the away turnstiles. It serves real ale and offers pie & chips plus a pint for £5. The pub also offers free parking for coaches and minibuses if arranged in advance (Tel: 01625 423763). To find the Golden Lion, head down Moss Lane, which goes behind the away terrace, and then turn left at the corner of the ground and walk down behind the new stand. Keep straight on this road and you will come to the pub on the left. Also for real ale, it is suggested to take the ten minute walk to the Railway View pub on Byrons Lane. This smallish pub has around six ales on offer including guest beers. It also sells homemade pies. To find it, follow the A523 from the ground towards Macclesfield town centre. At a set of traffic lights turn right into Byrons Lane. Go over the railway bridge and the pub is on the right. Where to eat: Food inside the ground not only includes the usual burgers and hot dogs, but also a selection of pies and pasties, from local baker Brassingtons.
  11. The record score of 6-0 for one leg of the League Cup, when Latics beat West Ham, has been broken tonight by City.
  12. I've added some more videos from Sunday. This one captures the bouncing away end! https://www.flickr.com/photos/diego_sideburns/45936393774/in/dateposted/
  13. Quote from the fulhamweb fans' forum: Shame I’ve never been embarrassed to be a Fulham supporter. Not even when we lose to a league 2 team, not when we are beaten week in and week out in the premier league. Not when Felix was making us a laughing stock. Not even during the dark days of the ‘80’s. Through it all I’ve always been able to hold my head up high and be proud to be Fulham. But when our players believe the only way to win a game is by diving in the box, then, I’m embarrassed to say I’m Fulham.
  14. Cheers! I'm not one to recommend hanging about in the gents, but it's surprising who you meet in there!
  15. Here's my pictures/video album from yesterday. By the way, I had such a good feeling about what was going to happen that I wrote the description at the start of the picture album on the day before the game, and didn't need to change a word! https://www.flickr.com/photos/diego_sideburns/albums/72157675187600047
  16. I quote from the original post in this thread (updated re pub opening times): Near to the tube station is the Eight Bells (open from 10am) which is popular with away fans. The Temperance (open from 12 noon) is only a few minutes’ walk away from the Eight Bells walk up to the main road and turn right. The Temperance is across the road (Fulham High Street) on the corner and has food on offer (burgers, hot dogs, chips, etc). Opposite the Temperance on the same road is the King's Arms (open from 12 noon), which is also popular with visiting supporters. The Crabtree (open from 12 noon) on Rainville Road (10 minutes’ walk from the ground) welcomes away supporters. To find this pub go along Stevenage Road away from the Cottage and the away end. On reaching the home end of the ground, turn left along an alley which runs behind the stand. When you reach the River Thames, turn right and walk along the riverside path. You will reach the Crabtree on your right. This pub is also just under 20 minutes’ walk from Hammersmith tube station. On the opposite side of the Thames to the ground is the Rocket (open from 8am), a Wetherspoon’s pub. From the Putney Bridge tube station go on up to the main road, then cross the Thames via Putney Bridge. Over on your left you will see a semi-circular tower located on the riverfront. The Rocket is located at the bottom of this tower. Once over the bridge look for the path on the left taking you down to the river bank and walk along from there. Along the riverbank from the Wetherspoon’s is the Boathouse (open from 12 noon), a Young's pub which is also frequented by visiting supporters. If arriving at Putney overground railway station, there is a Wetherspoon’s virtually opposite the station entrance called the Railway (open from 12 noon).
  17. Similarly I wonder if he is related to some Wild brothers I played with in Townfield Youth Club football team back in the 60s.
  18. NOTE: Fulham FC requirements for the display of flags: The flag must be no bigger than 3 metres by 2 metres and have a valid fire certificate. It will then be allowed to be displayed on the rear of the stand wall structure.
  19. Pub opening times on Sundays: Rocket 8 am Eight Bells 10 am Temperance 12 noon King's Arms 12 noon Crabtree 12 noon Boathouse 12 noon Railway 12 noon
  20. There are two good articles in the January 2019 edition of 'When Saturday Comes'. One by Brian Simpson titled 'Team Spirit - Latic Acid', about dropping support for Man U and supporting Latics from Premier League to Checkatrade. The other by Dan Turner titled 'Distant Echoes' about supporting Latics after moving down south.
