  1. Thanks for the invitation. Sorry, I have to decline, because it would mean me thinking more often about Latics between games.
  2. For those who think his six goals were only against little Scarborough, it should be remembered that Scarborough had beaten Chelsea over two legs in the previous round.
  3. I was told at the turnstile yesterday that I only just looked old enough for a concession - it made my day!
  4. £10 if Latics beat Derby. £5 if Latics beat Tranmere. £5 if Latics beat Carlisle.
  5. Appropriate moment to remember the OWTB t-shirt series, one of which was: http://www.owtb.co.uk/topic/11347-frankie-six-of-the-best-bunn/
  6. Joe Royle was on the right side of AL today, sat in the North Stand.....just sayin'. Some pictures: https://www.flickr.com/photos/diego_sideburns/albums/72157696381256982

  9. Many messages from Brentford fans about Dave. http://www.griffinpark.org/forums/showthread.php?t=130489
  10. So sad to hear O4U has passed away and condolences to his family. His contributions on here will be missed and we should applaud his great work in prompting us to keep the Playershare scheme going. It would be a tribute to him if we could remember to buy stuff online via Playershare, which I confess to have lapsed from. Perhaps his name could be honoured when the next player's wages are assisted via the scheme.

  12. There's a beer festival on at Broadhurst Park and a drinking in view policy.
  13. NOTE: This information may be out of date in an ever-changing world. Broadhurst Park, 310 Lightbowne Rd, Moston, Manchester, M40 0FJ If fans need to be segregated then the Lightbowne end is allocated to away fans, where 500 fans can be accommodated. This end is comprised mostly of a flat standing area (no terracing) and the roof covering is set back from pitch-side. This lack of terrace may cause a problem for some in viewing the match, especially if there is a large away support. The ground is still in parts a work in progress, so portaloos are in evidence and catering outlets are brought in on matchdays. How to get there: See the Club’s travel information: http://fc-utd.co.uk/travel_hub.php Where to drink: There is a large fans’ bar located at the back of the St Mary's Road Terrace, which is open to both home and away fans. The bar serves its own real ale called Broadhurst Ale, which is brewed by a local microbrewer. If fans are not segregated then it is also available to all supporters at half time. The nearest pub is the Gardeners Arms on Lightbowne Road. This large pub is only a ten minute walk away and offers real ales from JW Lees. Otherwise there is the Blue Bell Hotel on Moston Lane, which is just under a mile away from Broadhurst Park. This is a traditional pub that serves real ales by Holts. It also has the added benefit of having BT Sports, Sky television and offers free match parking too. Behind the home end just off St Mary's Road in Teddington Road is the Miners’ Social Club, which also has a cafe attached. Normally away fans are admitted, but for some high profile games it only allows in home supporters. If arriving at Newton Heath Metrolink, then very near to the stop is the Railway Hotel. This Joseph Holts pub also has BT and Sky Sports television and a free shuttle bus is availableon Saturdays to take fans on the short journey up to Broadhurst Park. There is also another Holts Pub called the Broadway in New Moston, on Nuthurst Road which is around a 15 minute walk away. The Broadway also offers free match-day parking.
  14. A judge has ruled that David Duckenfield, the match commander, will face trial for the manslaughter by gross negligence of 95 football supporters. Also to face trial are: Former Sheffield Wednesday club secretary Graham Mackrell charged with health and safety, and safety at sports grounds offences; Former solicitor Peter Metcalf and former police officers Donald Denton and Alan Foster charged with perverting the course of justice. A hearing to determine whether former Chief Constable Sir Norman Bettison will be tried has been adjourned until August.
  15. I've seen England win the World Cup and Latics promoted from the fourth to the third tier. I've also married the girl at work who I fancied. So I'm not really bothered. What I don't want is Latics to be relegated out of the League, and promotion would be a reward for AL, which I would like.
  16. NOTE: This information may be out of date in an ever-changing world. Forest Green Rovers, The New Lawn, Another Way, Nailsworth, GL6 0FG The ground is situated on top of a hill, exposed to the elements. To find it by sat nav, use postcode GL6 0ET. Described by FIFA as the greenest football club in the world, it is the only club in the world to have EMAS accreditation – the gold standard of environmental management – and the first and only vegan football club in the world. The Club plans to build ‘Eco Park’ stadium made entirely of wood. Away fans are located on the uncovered West Terrace (standing only), which can hold up to 975 people, with entry through turnstiles 9 and 10. The entrance to the away terrace is at the back of the stadium from the main entrance and the access paths are quite narrow. Entrance to the ground is via electronic turnstiles, so it is necessary to scan the ticket to gain admittance. Disabled persons’ facilities: Parking is available in the club car park for visiting fans who are blue badge holders, but a space must be pre-booked. Very limited wheelchair accessible seating is available in the East Stand. How to get there: By Car: Nailsworth is south of Stroud in Gloucestershire. Exit the M5 at junction 13 and head for Stroud on the A419. At Stroud turn onto the A46 towards Nailsworth. This will bring you into the centre of the town and when you reach the Information Centre, take the first right at the mini-roundabout into Spring Hill, which goes up a steep hill sign-posted Forest Green. The New Lawn stadium is at the top of this hill. Turn left at the roundabout at the 'summit' into the stadium entrance. Car Parking: There is a small section of parking at the ground for early arrivals, at a cost of £5. A short distance away down Nympsfield Road is Nailsworth Primary School, which offers parking at £5 per car. Otherwise, there is plenty of on-street parking in the area, and the Club requests consideration for its neighbours and adherence to local parking enforcement. A Park and Ride service with over 200 spaces at a cost of £5 per car runs from local company Renishaw, Stroud Road, Nailsworth, GL5 5EY, from three hours before kick-off, with coaches travelling from the car park to and from the ground. Parking in the centre of Nailsworth is free and it is a fifteen-minute walk up a steep hill to the ground. By Train: The closest train station is Stroud. Walk 3mins from the station to the bus stop outside Merrywalks Shopping Centre and catch the 63 bus to Forest Green which takes approximately 30mins. Where to drink: There is a bar at the ground called the Green Man, which is built into the back of the Main Stand. This bar serves real ale from the Stroud Brewery, hot food is available and it has a number of televisions showing sports. Howerver, although normally only home fans are admitted, the Club has set up a small marquee bar for visiting fans which is located near to the away turnstiles. Even the beer and cider sold by the Club is vegan. The George pub on New Market Road is around a 15 minute walk to the ground. It is an extremely atmospheric pub and worth seeking out despite the walk back up the hill. To find this pub from the ground, walk back down the main road towards the town centre. Half-way down look out for Burma Road on the right and follow it along into Seven Acres Road. Carry on until you see a footpath on your left heading sharply down the hill. It is a shortcut that leads to the back of The George. There are some other pubs and food outlets are at the bottom of the hill in Nailsworth, which is about a 15 minute walk, such as the Britannia on New Market Road. Alternatively, a five minute drive (or two and a half miles) away from the ground in Nympsfield Village is the Rose & Crown which serves real ale and food. If you have a bit of time on your hands then there is the Village Inn on the A46 on the North side of the town. This pub is well known for its ale being the home of the Keep Brewing Brewery and also shows Sky and BT Sports. Where to eat: If you are looking for a meat pie, beef burger or hot dog to buy inside the ground, then you will be disappointed, as the Club has decided not to sell any meat products and instead only sells vegan ones. On offer are freshly-made fajitas, veggie burgers, the Q-Pie (a vegan pie made using leek and Quorn ingredients), chips, chips and curry sauce and chip butties.
  17. In 1998, on the way to the F.A. Cup game at Cardiff, supporters of Latics and Eintracht Frankfurt had a lunchtime session in a pub in Newport. The following day the Eintracht five-a side team was beaten by the Latics Ladies in the Clayton Arms Sports Hall. A lot of Jagermeister has flowed since then; the Newport pub has closed down; sadly some of the supporters of both Clubs are no longer with us; but the friendship is stronger than ever and there has to be a reunion there next season. 18. I wonder if AL knows much about Spanish third tier football. For instance I think the current top scorer, whose on the best form of his career and playing for a club top of the league with one game to go, could do a job for us in the fourth tier, and also double-up as Club doctor. He has twelve months left on his contract, but I'm pretty sure he would still love to play in England. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diego-cervero/transfers/spieler/130642/transfer_id/1836774
