  1. Might be ready to cut his losses then and sell cheaply!! I'm not against a move away from BP but what concerns me is the fact that if we do move OUT to Failsworth and don't achieve our aim of promotion pretty soon we could continue to decline and get forgotten by more of our die-hard Oldham supporters.....I've just got this awful feeling that a move to Failsworth maybe good in the short term but long term will prove disastrous!!!! Surely there must be at least one other site worth consideration....We are talking about the long term viability of our town's proffesional club here and we have one chance to get it right...If we get it wrong ( as I fear here ) there will be no turning back and it could very easily spell the end for our club. Yes, we all realise we have to move or develop BP, but I really don't think that TTA have considered or even understand the possible long term implications of this move to Failsworth.
  2. Tranmere's cowdsheds site is exactly the opposite....hillarious even......but only for us. The majority of their fans are positively suicidal!!!!!
  3. .hardly any crosses into the box from our Ginger ace........................Nothing different there then eh!!
  4. You were a joke on the last site and you're a joke on here..........Go and find something worthwhile to do with your spare time!!!!!!!
  5. Izzy Irikpen just left Hamilton for family reasons. Decent player for Swansea, Bristol C, and captain at Scunthorpe. A Centre Back at 6' 2" could be just what we need!!
  6. Don't agree with that at all Corp........although a promotion assault is highly unlikely this season, I don't think we could have tempted Dave Penney to come here unless we had the ambition to get into the championship. With a couple of promotions on his CV there's no way that he would have been content to tread water in this division.
  7. SMS ....released with immediate effect....Will probably have been done to allow him to find another club today!
  8. It was a local derby and similar to ourselves playing Stockport where we got 6,900....so don't slash your wrists just yet!!!
  9. I'm not sure where you get 'vastly' from.....Whilst it will be lower than last year it will still represent a fair amount, however the first real home crowd, derbies apart, of less than 4000 will not have done much to instill confidence in the season ahead!!!
  10. I think it would be a good move for both the club and Taylor providing we get a minimum of £750K with ad ons and sell ons. He's been a good player here, probably our best for a couple of seasons. Yes, he's Oldham through and through but is by no means the finished article. If Penney can get a sizeable chunk of the fee to re-invest in the team then it could be a good move and enable us to compete with the better teams in this division. Glen Murray, Danny Jones, and a pacy centre back would do us nicely thankyou very much.......Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward and should it happen it could be the making of a better side!!!!.
  11. If Chris Taylor goes this week I reckon we could have Glenn Murray in before Monday!!
  12. Chadderton is actually larger in area than Royton with an almost identical population!
  13. I know this is a delicate subject but could a minor name change have a positive effect and lead to an increase in our fan base. We have already survived one name change from Pine Villa and have enjoyed 100 years of league football since. Athletic was apparently taken from the original name of the ground which housed Oldham County, with our proposed move away from Boundary Park apparently imminent would it be a good or bad idea to remove the Athletic from our title. Whilst a move back to Pine Villa will have no meaning to the vast majority of our fans as long as we keep Oldham within the title would it be really that bad a move?? Oldham Borough? Oldham Villa? Oldham United? I have been attending Latics games since 1963 so I'm by no means a casual supporter. This is a serious question so no abuse please!!!! ......................Opinions and suggestions anyone!!!!!!
  14. I think Taylor's value ought to be around a million but in today's climate we are probably looking at a fair bit less, however if this rumour is true, then Leeds really have a nerve, after reportedly banking in excess of 6M for Delph we should expect at least somewhere close to his true value. It would help us financially if it were a Championship club showing an interest but one way or another with only a week to go in this window we will know for sure pretty soon. My guess is that he will still be here at least until January.
  15. The thing is if we do nothing at all then within a year or two clubs will fold. This recession is nowhere near over and whilst regionalisation might not be the perfect solution, anything that will cut costs and increase revenue no matter how small has to be given full consideration. Some huge companies and household institutions have gone to the wall over the last few months and a few proffesional football clubs are almost certainly going to join them in the not too distant future. By all accounts we are down on season ticket sales by about £130,000 and unless we are challenging for promotion will be averaging 4500 at best , another £120,000 drop from pay on the day punters. That's at least £1/4M over the full season!!!! The pinch me seasons of the early nineties, and what followed, were just about the best things that ever happened to this club, certainly in my lifetime, but as a result, the gradual decline that has transpired with two disastrous relegations, and the best forgotten Chris Moore era, has plunged the club into a seemingly endless downward spiral with, as yet, no real sign of recovery. Once fans stop going to games for a couple of seasons it will be almost impossible to get them back without delivering success on the pitch. TTA have kept the club afloat for the last 5 or 6 years and for that we should be eternally grateful, however, they have failed in their main aim of a 5 year plan for promotion to the Championship and it is, almost entirely, for this reason that we are struggling so badly, to hold on to our dwindling fanbase. I fear absolutely nothing else, not even a shiny new stadium in Failsworth, will save us from further stagnation and decline. I am sure that TTA are now having regrets about ever buying into this club and a quick fix and hurried move to Failsworth, for all the wrong reasons, will enable them to leave with their heads held high sure in the knowledge that they will have left the club in a far healthier position to the one they inherited. I hope I am wrong but although the club is desperate for state of the art facilities I feel a move to Failsworth, especially after TTA have gone, could be the final nail in the coffin for this club.
  16. About a dozen teams have nothing to play for after February in our league at the moment........so what's new! There would obviously be problems but I'm sure they could be addressed.......perhaps one auto place from each division and next three from each division in a combined play off competition. You could even involve the third bottom in the championship in the playoffs.
  17. How can you say it's a non-starter.....unless more money is filtered down from the premiership (not going to happen) I can't think of any other way of reducing costs whilst increasing revenue. It's madness in today's economic climate to expect the likes of Carlisle in our division to travel round trip in excess of 400 miles week after week and it's surely unsustainable for them in the long term. There might be a gulf in quality at first but as the the costs go down and revenues increase it may enable the smaller clubs to improve the quality of their playing squads thus making the leagues more competitive. Whether you agree or not radical changes will have to be made if we are to ensure the survival of lower league football. Football is no more if we can't entice fans to come and watch........The atmosphere at yesterday's game was terrible and is the main reason fans are staying away. Whilst not a perfect solution, something has to be done to halt the decline and if regionalisation can help reduce costs and increase revenue, whilst improving the atmosphere at games then we have to go for it!!!!!
  18. We will not get increased crowds and interest until we are more successful on the pitch. The credit crunch is going to affect all clubs in lower divisions so I expect sub 4000 to be the norm especially with the lack of northern clubs in our division. The novelty of the premiership has well and truly worn off at rugby town Wigan who had only 18,164 for a home game with the biggest draw in the league and when you consider at least 1/3 of the crowd will have been reds that really is an appalling turnout from the home fans!!! I truly believe if we don't revert to North and South divisions pretty soon, regardless of the drawbacks and promotion issues, we will see the demise of full time proffesional lower league football in this country. Radical steps need to be taken immediately as without doubt, lower league football cannot possibly survive and prosper in its present format.
  19. Brill's positioning for the freekick was awful and everyone in the RRE new where the ball was ending up!!! He couldn't even deal with a few long throws today...He needs to be rested and I just hope the other goalkeeper is ready for the first team. The least said about Hazell the better!!!!!!
