  1. Nail hit firmly on the head. It is simply impossible to compare the two situations.
  2. If we're to have a trial then I think the best time would be an early cup game next season. The new stand would be up, giving us four sides, and there would be less disruption to Chaddy End season ticket holders. Having said that I think a trial is pointless. Sod all this power to the people nonsense and make the switch.
  3. I'm an architectural technologist. No expert in stadium design by any means though.
  4. Well no, I wouldn't necessarily, it's not a case of it being bigger or smaller. There are so many factors to consider including the site conditions, procurement of materials & labour and the weather. Not to mention that the "few holes in the ground" are the most crucial part of any structure and take a lot more time and effort to prepare than many expect. It's incredible how many people have become construction and architecture experts on here since this project started.
  5. Well maybe if our stand was being built in Leith over Spring/Summer it would have been a little quicker. It's ridiculous to compare two different projects on two different sites. EDIT: Having said that it's worth noting how once they get out of the ground the structure shoots up, as will be the case at BP.
  6. Having just done a small amount of internet research it seems the legalities of standing in seating areas is actually very confusing. It looks like the ejection from the ground of persistent standers is more of an FA suggestion than anything else, so it seems you're right: it's the club's prerogative. With this in mind I think the singing section is a decent idea. However I think a number of people - we have a few on this board - won't appreciate this kind of forced atmosphere. Each to their own I suppose.
  7. I'm open to the idea of a singing section but we can't have a section where the stewards are lax, because ultimately the club will find itself getting a slap on the wrist - or worse.
  8. I've never been at a Latics match where "Oooh Roger Palmer" was chanted and there wasn't a black player/steward/lino in front of us. I'm glad I'm not the only one that was a little unsettled by this. I'm not saying it's malicious, maybe just ignorant. Roger was a great player, why don't we just sing his chant alongside "Andy Ritchie's Magic" as a tribute to former players?
  9. Both worthy efforts, but pray silence for the undisputed champion of great own goals; Manchester City's Jamie Pollock: [media]
  10. It's interesting that aside from the top four most are significantly better at predicting how many we will concede than how many we will score. You could probably read something into that.
  11. "Gordon, the state of this aisle is terrible. It's like Union Street after a cold snap"
  12. Made up songs? As opposed to songs hewn from the earth? Or the songs engraved on a pie crust and handed down to the chosen one on Oldham Edge?
  13. What is 'this' though? People not turning up or people not seeing wins?
  14. Imagine if we did that, we'd struggle to find eleven willing players.
  15. It seems all German clubs do that. I went to Berlin and watched Hertha BSC at the Olympiastadion. After a scratchy 1-0 win over St Pauli the players came and lined up, linking arms in front of the ostkurve (their 'kop') whilst the Hertha fans serenaded them with a rendition of Rod Stewart's We Are Sailing. Crazy Germans.
  16. You make a very good point there. This next couple of weeks could be really crucial for Carl Winchester.
  17. There may well have been some sort of altercation, but do I believe it is an issue in any way? Not for a moment.
  18. In the Latics Player interview after the MK game Johnson criticized Clarke-Harris by saying that his attitude wasn't at all right. He then tempered that criticism by saying he usually has a spot-on attitude, and this incident was very out of character. Textbook, surely? Particularly as Jonson Clarke-Harris is a teenage kid!
