  1. http://www.liverweb.org.uk/report.asp?rec_id=4595 No , but I do recall this one . Didn't subersub David Fairclough score our 2 goals ? Also we beat the double winners in a pre-season friendly 1-0 , scored by Mickey Quinn . It's mentioned at the bottom of the page.
  2. The same day that Ted Macdougall scored 9 goals in Bourenmouths 11-0 FA Cup win over Margate.
  3. There was no pen , Simpson scored a free kick .
  4. Probably a poor team we beat , but we did it superbly. A masterclass from Simpson , let's hope he is enjoying his role as much & wants to stay , we don't want anyone else pinching him. I thought Mvoto was terrific today , best performance of the season. Wes too was everywhere & good to see Lee wallop one in , let's hope he now has the confidence to try more of them. What a great day
  5. I played on the old pitch a few times. Once & only once I made a full back look silly , he then wiped me out. My kness then all bloody scabbed over. They burned for about 3 days & then exploded in a mass of green gunge .... I never ever allowed myself to be in a position where I couldn't control how I fell after that. Still recall the first game on the plastic. We were allowed 2 days grace , played on the Monday , against Barnsley won 2-0. The pitch was orange because of all the sand that was on it that not bedded down. No point having it back with the type of player we have had in the last decade. You need players who can pass to feet accurately & trap a ball. Obvious exceptions like Shez & Eyres who would have had no problem.
  6. Didn't John Ryan & Paul Atkinson have taches in their first time here ?
  7. Mick Quinn was in terrific shape when he was at Latics , super hard working striker who scored loads in a team in the lower half of the second division .....
  8. Favourites , but not contenders for the best .... N Sinclair Branston Hodgson G Snodin
  9. Think I might poll as many as Morais in this one.
  10. I always thought Paul Warhurst was classy when he played at the back, never understood why he didn't go on to great things. Warhurst was on the verge of the England squad scoring goals non stop for Wednesday & Blackburn when he had a very bad leg injury. Moved like a rolls royce , quickest player we have had by a country mile.
  11. Irwin , Barlow ,Warhurst , Barrett that was easy in full Goram Irwin Barlow Henry Barrett Warhurst Ward Redfearn Ritchie Marshall Holden subs Hallworth Milligan Palmer Adams Linighan Anyone who thinks any player after the 91 era is good enough are deluding themselves (youngsters exempted of course) imo
  12. Parker looks very nippy , another good addition to our squad , let's hope he comes through this ok .
  13. Simpson has been our best player week in week out (apart from a poor game against Brentford). He adds a dimension to our team we don't have. Supports the strikers well, superb crosser of a ball & has far more time on the ball then any other midfield player , just look at the sheer number of fouls on him. If Huddy don't want him , get a deal signed up for when & if Huddy go up .
  14. Anglo Scottish Cup .... crikey that brings back memories. I wouldn't try belittling that competiton , massive crowd at Boundary Park for the final with Burnley . We have had 14 pretty miserable years in Division 3 , sorry Division 1. The manager is spot on going all out for the JPT , let's hope we get there , I think we deserve a great day like it would be.
  15. Can't understand why he didn't give our 35 year old talisman the second half off . Smith must be wondering what is goin on. Spending alll the game warming up. Surely 45 minutes against 10 men would be a terrific time to let him loose .....very odd.
  16. Huddersfield have only 1 priority , promotion. They now have a clear run at it , those of who are old enough to recall a promotion (20 years ago) will recall that we too went out of the cups early . Laughing at a team who are 41 games unbeaten in the league ....dont be a wally.
  17. I presume that is what you are taught to get your coaching badge. When 3-0 up against an inferior team who have had a man sent off do the following in the second half. Pass the ball sideways & backwards at a very slow tempo & try to not have any shots. Under no circumstances take up to 2 players off early in the second half , who may have played 3 games in 8 days , in favour of fringe players who might be chomping at the bit . Madness , utter madness. A polished first half (apart from Mellor who I thought had a shocking game) , second half was depressingly familiar. I hope that is the final time Morais plays for us. Anyway glad we were in the Rochdale Road End , must have been rubbish in the Chaddy , all the action at the other end.
  18. As a signed up member of the I don't want to sit at footy games , I was now stood in the shallow terracing on the Broadway side , level with Marshy as he fired off his Exocet ....never heard a net make such a noise ....well apart from Killer Kilcline's magnificent own goal at Elland Road .
  19. I just memories of it being dark ,perhaps it was a mid season game ...perhaps not. I remember going to 2 successive home games against teams as dreadful as we were. It was like watching tennis as we hooved in up and down the pitch. The scores were 0-0 , 1-1 and 0-0 ...The 2 goals were penalties ...yes no goals scrored from open play in 3 games.
  20. Never thought I would be so happy to see an opposing team score against us the night Mendonca banged in number 3 for Grimsby & ended the living hell that was our time under the management of Mr Sharp......grim , grim ,football.
  21. Yes that Wrexham game .....the day we changed our defensive shape , what a narvellous idea that was. Can still Pogs & Bruce ranting at each other.
  22. My 20 daughter is getting very excited about the possibility of a Wembley final .....sick of listening to me go about the good old days resulting in the League Cup final of 1990. The job is still to be finished , but we are as good any any time left in thre Northern half ....come on Latics we deserve this after the last miserable 15 years.
  23. Adeyemi MOM for me , worked nonstop , unlucky not to score. Kuqi poacher extroadinaire for his 2 goals. Simpson excellent again ....apart from his shooting. Scarpuzzi is clearly a talented young man , his goal was very classy. 25 shots in a game , most unlike us.
  24. The one player I did not want to buy off Everton was McDonald . I could have gone to see Nirvana when we lost 2-0 at OT in the League Cup ....his performance that night was ....... Is my mind playnig tricks or did he score that goal against West Ham when the ball was put out of play for an injury , we took the throw in quickly & he walloped it in ....they weren't impressed.
  25. Ali , Frazier , Foreman , Norton .....the golden era of Heavyweight boxing. RIP Smokin' Joe
