  1. ...and none of those things contradict anything I've said. [Though it was a two-year extension (2019 -> 2021) not a four-year (https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/daniel-iversen-signs-new-leicester-1827977)] If he wants to play regularly at the top-level, he needs to work on commanding his area and actually coming to collect crosses rather than staying on his line. And his distribution needs to improve. That's not to say he isn't a prospect - he's only 21. And also not to say that he isn't good enough for our level at the moment. But there were times yesterday when his hesitancy nearly cost us, and that's not something we should ignore just because he's a good shot-stopper and comes with a decent reputation.
  2. He can be a prospect and still have things to work on... if he starts to command his area properly I think he could be quite good. But there's a reason he's currently playing in League Two.
  3. Thought we played well in the first-half and looked comfortably the better team. We were under the cosh a bit in the second-half until we scored our second, and from then on thought we'd be comfortable... until Coke inexplicably gave away a free-kick on the edge of our area and handed them the initiative. We were hanging on (panicking?) a bit after that really, but dug in quite well. Seemed able to handle their big lump up front quite easily until they brought on a second big lump and then we started to struggle. Suspect that's why Bunn brought Graham on - for a bit of extra height. Thought that was strange at the time, but in hindsight he did okay. Hunt struggled a bit after moving to the right-wing, though. The Miller substituton made sense as he offered something defensively from corners and free-kicks which Baxter or Lang wouldn't have. His goal was a bonus. The centre-halves, Taylor, Surridge and O'Grady were the picks of the bunch for me. Gardner was solid, but had his work cut out as Coke was quite poor again. Iversen concerns me a bit. He's a good shot-stopper, but he doesn't command his area at all. At 6'4'' he should really be coming and claiming crosses and corners but he seems rooted to his line which just invites pressure. Definitely something for him/Rhodes to work on. All-in-all though, a decent performance, albeit against a pretty mediocre Macclesfield team. Good to get three points on the board, and pleased for Frankie to get his first win as a manager - he certainly seems to have the players behind him. Win one of the next two, and it's not a bad start, all things considered. Onwards and upwards!
  4. Indeed. Don't think he really needs to justify not investing an unsustainable amount of capital to get around the salary cap. His point is that to get the club's finances to a more sustainable level, the wage bill had to be slashed. He's using the EFL's guidance (55% of turnover) as a barometer for the size of wage bill that is sustainable for a club like ours. That seems perfectly rational to me.
  5. Not the same regulations as for the Premier League/Championship, no. But there are still financial fair play regulations. In Leagues One and Two these come under the 'Salary Cost Management Protocol', or SCMP (catchy). In effect, a club in League Two is limited to spending a maximum of 55% of turnover on wages, and there are sanctions for clubs which breach the regulations. On League One this is 60%. Further information can be found in Appendix 5 of the EFL Rules and Regulations, if you're interested. Entitled? ..."Financial Fair Play Regulations". (Suspect you knew that already, though)
  6. Actually thought he should have done better for both goals against Forest. But other than that looked pretty solid and commanding, and apparently had a good game in mid-week, so trust Rhodes' judgement. Reckon he'll be less entertaining than Placide, though...
  7. It'll be nice for Byrne to sit down on as he watches the ball repeatedly sail over his head...
  8. What's happened to Omrani and Maouche...?
  9. They've got 7 points from their last 7 games, having played five of them at home... interesting definition of momentum.
  10. Byrne dropped and Paddy Mc not even on the bench? Four forwards? Show of faith in Hamer to keep him in with Wilson on the bench? Brave selection from Richie... let's hope it pays off.
  11. Form since the start of February really isn't that bad... 18 points from 12 league games; only 2 defeats. Replicate that over the season and that's 69 points. Though admittedly performances haven't been anywhere near the levels when Wellens first took over. I think it'd be very unfair to sack him if we stayed up, especially given where we started from.
  12. Controversial view, I know, but I didn't think we were that bad yesterday. Not great, admittedly, but we've won games playing worse. Wigan are just a lot better than us.
  13. Holloway's a good player at this level.
  14. Agreed. Not only is it annoying, it's also unsafe. If there was ever an emergency announcement, half the ground wouldn't be able to hear it...
  15. He's been comfortably our best player in the last two months...
  16. Only started one of those 9 league games, too... played < 20 minutes in 6 of them!
  17. Massively depends on which of the loan players we're able to keep. If we lose Bryan, Byrne and Doyle and don't replace them adequately I'd still be looking over my shoulder...
  18. They also conclusively show that grass is green and that we play in blue. ...like your point, however, neither of those things is relevant to my query about whether Duane Holmes was in an offside position.
  19. Actually I meant later in the move. The ball comes in from Morris, their forward gets a touch on it and then it goes through to Holmes who puts it in... and who I thought at the time was offside - highlights aren't exactly conclusive though unfortunately!
  20. First 40 minutes we were really poor. Next 50 we were alright, and a bit unlucky at the end not to draw. Doyle had a poor game - should/could have scored two or three. Byrne was good second-half, Dummigan played well. Clarke completely at fault for their second, but made it up for it by scoring our first. Didn't think Ruddy could do a lot with their goals, and was (one drop aside) fairly solid otherwise. Was the third offside? Had to come to an end at some point - at least it was entertaining!
  21. Bobby Reid (remember him?) is currently the top scorer in the Championship...
