  1. If we were ever really interested is this guy, no doubt LJ has already been onto his agent this morning. Or is that just a little bit too much like " finger on the pulse " for Latics.
  2. What worries me is our goal a game average for the whole season
  3. Sometimes this board real creases me up with some of the posts.
  4. Unless of course that it wasn't Dickov that they weren't prepared to play for - but the club itself / or the league that it was in. You never can tell with these over paid prima donnas.
  5. According to the BBC has today signed for Blackburn.
  6. Schumacher has gone to Fleetwood on a free according to the BBC.
  7. Where's Bobby Johnstone - why he not in list. Single handedly, with a little help from Bert Lister and Jimmy Frizz, saved us from extinction.
  8. David Best _ superb shot stopper, and dominated HIS area.
  9. I think you have to run the whole message through an Enigma machine, and then it kind of becomes clear - if you speak German that is.
  10. I don't know how relevant this is - probably not a lot when you consider the changing face of football - but a year or two back :-) we had a left winger called Tony Towers ( ex Burnley if my memory serves me - but maybe not ) who at the end of a season was released. One of the stated reasons was that he did not contribute sufficient goals for the team. He'd only managed a paltry twenty one (21 - l think that was the number, give or take one or two in either direction). Now l don't want people thinking, here's another one of those oldies stuck in the past. I enjoy today's game, with it's passion, commitment and pace - but what l mss is the entertainment factor. Football without goals ...... is just - well, l leave it to you to add your own adjective.
  11. The seasons main problem is sitting there staring us all in the face : Played 46 : goals scored 46
  12. Slightly disagree - what it shows you is if you regularly win, more come. If you then regularly win with style, then even more come.
  13. If we go down, how about sack cloth and ashes colour
  14. Only someone who hasn't been a supported for the past sixty years could come out with that comment.
  15. PD was gone at 5.00pm on the evening of the Liverpool game, if we'd lost, as l suspect SC had assumed. The decision was probably made days before the Liverpool game, and therefore SC and board had the time to take soundings, as l suggested in the first paragraph of my initial post. I truly can't imagine that SC and co came away from the telephone call with PD on the Sunday after the Walsall game, and thought for the very first time " golly gosh chaps, we need to find a new manager, let's see who's available ".
  16. I have to admit that l am disappointed. I truly thought that soundings would have been taken with available potential managers in the week before Liverpool, and that post a defeat by Liverpool the new man would have been in place within hours, or the odd day or so - look at Notts Forest. OK so the pesky Scot delayed it by a week but we were helped by the snow in mid week, but, each and every game from now on is absolutely critical. We needed someone in place on Wednesday to begin to bring influence to the squad and commence the process of kicking them into shape. Clearly there have been difficulties in the appointment process. Can anyone really see this squad suddenly turning over a new leaf and performing miracles on Saturday for TP, or will we get the usual float through the game type performance, pending the arrival of the new man sometime next week. OK if new man is produced on a sliver plater before the game, this might just induce them to buck their ideas up, but if not, l really worry that we will be waving goodbye to another desperately needed three points.
  17. My view is simple. SC is a successful business man. Prior to the Liverpool game he and the rest of the board will have sat down and thought of the road ahead (post Liverpool) on the assumption that the game would be lost, and PD would have been chopped. They would have realised that this late in the season you could not fanny around advertising and going down an interview of half a dozen potential managers type process. I suspect they would have come up with a shortlist of say three available managers, the idea being to talk to favourite one and see if interested and if terms could be agreed. If not one, then on to two etc, etc. That plan would have been in place for post 17.00 hours of the Liverpool game. But the pesky Scot didn't play the game properly, he chose to vanquish Liverpool instead ........ so plan goes on hold, until he falls flat on his face again ..... Q Walsall. I have no doubt that talks have been ongoing to said list since five minutes after the resignation announcement. Just sit back and wait a couple of days .... you'll know the worst come Tuesday night or Wednesday.
  18. Have you ever thought of sending CV to MI5, MI6 etc, etc.
  19. When did he tell you/us - before or after the Liverpool game ?
  20. Why on earth would you want to spit out in hatred, a word, on a forum devoted to football and which is being read / contributed to by a whole age range of fans, from the very old to the youngest. It is a sad indictment of mans ability to communicate without the need for resorting to profanities.
