Work to start on the ground in a year,

Not all money will go on new stand but no percentages mentioned.

Rest of ground hopefully redeveloped within the decade.

Councillor McMahon 'delighted'. Says club a 'priority' for town

oldham priority but we have to wait 10 years hahah excellent well atleaste we got one stand re-built ;/ still not looking forward to the 10 years of looking at a scruffy stadium

Im delighted at the fact we've gone from a shiney new stadium @ failsworth with all the smart facilities that would have taken a couple of years... To a new stand (that will take the same amount of time) overlooked by a crumbling sh!thole that will eventually become a patched up repair job, with only a 10 year wait (if we last that long)!

Nice one!

I think we have to acknowledge that to stay in Oldham, we were never ever going to get a rosy deal. I think to start developing in a year we have done well, considering we have no plans afoot yet. And bare in mind, with a new Lookers, if the next development is on the current main stand the ground doesn't look too shabby. RRE just needing a little aesthetic work, and the Chaddy isn't that bad I don't think. Important thing is revenue, I don't think it was ever plausible that full blue prints, contracts and work could begin straight away - Would almost certainly have resulted in rash decisions, one the club can't afford to take on such a big project.

This is good news, just think had it not been approved how much worse the situation could be right now. This gives the club a future, something we might not have otherwise had.

"hopefully" redevelop the rest of the ground in a decade?! So it is not even definite. :(

Without plans, or indeed planning permission. Promises can't be made. This is a big, big project. Please remember through this all, we're skint.

I'm assuming that "within the decade" refers to by 2020, so within 8.5 years from now, rather than within "a decade", i.e. 10 years on from the building of a new stand, so 2023.

Still seems like a long time. I'd expect some of that development could be driven faster by some success on the field though.

For a club that is skint a 10 year plan sounds pretty good to me. We all want it built tomorrow but it doesn't work like that. If we get the main 'earner' up first then we have a chance to generate some much neede income.

It may well be that we get added investment and it's all developed in 5.

Rome wasn't built in a day....after all what's happened I'm just glad there's a plan at all!!

Maybe Gazal and Blitz will come back into the fold....perhaps them jumping ship was a tactic designed to get the council to get it's finger out.......you never know!!!

glad we've got something to look to and plans for the future. if the council have approved, it looks like we have their backing so all we need now is for plans to start.

do we have designs yet or will they come now we know we can build and we have money?

and if a percentage is going to blitz/gazal, does that mean we are now effectively debt free with a positive future?

I think it gives the club 'a' future, but how are they going to convince the townspeople to give them yet another 10 years to see it through? And what kind of a future does it give the club?

I personally have no doubts that as soon as this new stand is up, if it does get built, the chaddy end and current main stand will be demolished.

Hopefully within the decade is pretty good IMHO. Although there will be cries of "I didn't", I honestly believe that the majority of Latics fans wanted us to stay at Boundary Park. It's a perfect site, ideal for redevelopment.

"Within the decade" does not mean that sod all will happen for ten years, then BAM! new stands suddenly appear. My interpretation of "within the decade" is that it will be a gradual work in progress. A new Lookers / Broadway, call it what you will, followed by bits and pieces here and there over the next few years improving / removing and replacing the parts that are well past their sell by date.

OK, that mostly likely means all of the main stand and the Chaddy, but it won't be done in one fell swoop. It has to be done in sections, so get ready for the moaners who have to move out of their regular seats while the work's done. But, if all goes well, the upheaval will be worth it because, by 2020 (it ain't THAT far away), we should have a Boundary Park to be proud of and one that we will all be happy to go to. That includes visiting fans as well.

You never know, once we start looking like a better proposition than we do now, we just might get some investors on board. And some will probably complain about that.

This is, for me, the best news since Failsworth went tits up so, instead of looking for fault at every twist and turn, how about looking on the bright side and think positively? It won't hurt, will it?

That is why I'm sure the club will look to get the contracts secured sooner rather than later. Contractual obligation eliminates the collateral that any changing variables may cause, i.e. change of owners/council/etc.

I have confidence in Corney and Hardy that they wont rush into this; they will have learnt from the temerarious manner in which the Lookers was demolished. I'm sure there will now be a long, thought out and likely tedious planning process. Timescales, financing etc. all covered. We have to support the club on this one, let's face it Corney could have called it quits years ago.
