leeslover
Can I be the first to say that it was a disgrace we didn't sign him up to a longer contract, in advance of him going on a free in 2014.

LaticsPete
From a Boro ST friend: "Good signing for you. Strong and very committed, decent ability on the ball. More of a centre half than a left back, in my opinion. Has been a useful back-up for us, but not good enough for a team with premier league ambitions." oafc joe
No word on Diallo or Mchangama. I'd not lose sleep over Diallo leaving, but we do need backup for Grounds. mellor?
leeslover
mellor? Plus the lad from Sheffield can play left sided as well apparently
Crusoe
Forgot about Mellor. Suspect Brown will be the first choice right back.
Crusoe
Jason Devos?
slystallone
Jason Devos? The Chesterfield game, they went to 10 men after Trotman thrw his toys out of the pram and got his marching orders. They went narrow in the centre of midfield and so were exposed out wide. Grounds was exposed, but so was their RB Drew Talbort also. There wasn't much they could do really. I remember him more from the Yeovil game where they beat us. He had a tough time as Lee & Morais were linking well, but he stood up to it and defended well. He's not say a Sheehan or Jones, or even Evina in terms of going forward - but as a defender, IMO he pisses all over them. Guess it's going to depend on how you value your full-back's capabilities - I for one am always more comfortable with a full-back who is a defender 1st and an extra attacking option second. Grounds is this one. Really happy with this signing. No compensation paid. Lots of league experience for a 24 year old. From a good stock in the 'Boro academy, and fits the bill of young, hungry players who will "run through brick walls". I think that's us sorted for the full-backs positions now - regardless of news of Diallo (hopefully the news is he's off; he's just not very good!) Left back - Grounds as 1st choice. Mellor as back up. In an emergancy; Brown. Right back - Brown as 1st choice. Winchester as back-up. In an emergancy, Millar could be thrown in maybe? I don't see the need for, or the point of anymore additions for the full-back position - especially as an loan could be brought in if needed too. deyres42
I'd keep Diallo, can't imagine his wage will be too high and should be able to cover both the full back positions. Hoping that Dickov has earmarked Mellor for the left midfield role.

pukka
Glad we have brought in a naturally left footed player in Grounds. Played too much in the past with players playing at left back who are not left sided.

Keepingthe Faith
Welcome to BP Jonathan. I think PD is doing a really good job at selling our club to prospective and new signings. A few more of this calibre will do nicely!

slystallone
Is Brown a shoe-in for first choice RB? I've never seen him play or heard of him for his footballing ability. Anyone in the know? On the article when he signed, PD said he was Kieron Lee's direct replacement at Right Back. I took it from that quote that Brown will be lining up on the opening game in the RB position as 1st choice. I spoke with a Sheff Utd season ticket holder at a extendend family BBQ in early June; like 2 days after it was announced we'd signed young Connor. The chap I spoke with said he rated Connor but he wasn't good enough to displace Matt Lowton from the starting X1, and when Lowton was suspended for 3 games; Brown was out injured so couldn't take his chance. He said something disparaging along the lines of "but he'll be a good addition for a small club like you - in fact, he'll probably be one of your better players I'd have thouht" - took that with the firm pinch of salt I think it was intended (!!) but the jist I got was that he's got a lot of potential. I think we've signed a potential gem here......
Microcuts
Just watched his interview on LP - seems a very articulate, grounded, professional guy. Perfect for a full back role, pretty similar to K. Lee! It's usually a bad omen, but I'm getting a little bit excited about this season now...
