By the way, I hope the restructure works.

My prediction is that whoever comes in as number two will be first team manager by the end of the season.

I think he will go, I vividly remember PD saying that GT was his friend and that he trusted no one more to be his number 2. PD brought GT from Leciester reserve team so he may feel its his only option to resign.

Aren't you then essentially saying it's an evergreen term with a 12-month notice period? I'm not saying that's not how PD's contract works, though. And if it is structured in that way, it'll cost us the same amount to get rid of him, regardless of when we do it.

Unless the club have an exit clause in his contract, which means they could get rid of him cheaper at the end of the season?

Given that Latics are still paying the 3 coaches, I wouldn't be surprised if the club only brought in 1 new (experienced) coach with a contract until the end of the season. That would suggest that they would need to employ someone who is currently unemployed.

I presume Tony P and Paul Gerrard (who's effectively under the threat of the sack) will also help out in the short term.

Do we know if the coaches are on a contract?, I would have thought they would just be classed as employees with only PD on a rolling contract?

It won't. How can it? It's a ridiculous half measure.

I can't see that it will.

Not just a half measure, it pulls the rug from underneath the main man.

My fear is that the players will sense that he's been undermined and our form on the pitch will deteriorate further.

I can only seethis as a good thing

someone on the touchline with a bit of tactical knowledge could really turn us wrong

PD has certain skills as a manager that are good and others that he needs help with, he has not been getting that help

a few tweaks with a talented squad and another stong opinion in the staff could be the ways to go when we are up against it

As employees surely they would still have to sign a contract of employment. Anyway this seems a different way of going about things get rid of everybody bar the manager, it might work only time will tell.

From the article...

"The position of goalkeeping coach Paul Gerrard will be considered at a later date. He will assist the manager in the immediate future."

In my opinion, Gerrard has been the only success, as we have two very good goalkeepers on our books.

He was also Brill's coach!

From a purely cost point of view, should we have a full time gk coach?

Forgot about that, I had wiped Dean Brill from my memory!

Maybe it is a luxury we cannot afford. His contract might be re-negotiated, or scaled-down in the reshuffle that is about to take place.

From memory, Brill did improve under the coaching of Gerrard, he was still :censored:, but did improve.

I'd say we keep PG - in terms of cost, it may not be the best option, but practically goalkeeper is a position where i feel a specialist coach is necessary.

personally im in favour of this, its a bold move and more thought out than simply pulling the trigger. most have said taggart and butler do cack all, so who knows what impact an experienced no 2 will have on the team. can only be positive.

we have seen with wins against crewe, preston and the draw at sheffield just how well this team can play, and no matter what you say, dickov has his plus points. im all for this, as long as the appointment of a no2 is, as we anticipate, not only a coach, but a mentor for dickov. if its just another taggart we may as well bang our head against a brick wall
