Brian Cox on Mastermind

Recommended Posts

I'm sure others on here remember the young lad a few year back who did have Latics as his specialist subject. Did very well IIRC.

Here's a question for you all ;

Which member of the 1990 League Cup final team also appeared at Wembley as youngster for a schools Rugby League side?

The club should offer him free admission into the director's area for whenever he's able to come. This could increase media interest and raise the profile of the club.

The Club could also play "Things can only get better"

Or they could say, "Why don't you support us against all the :censored: teams, not just when we do well in the cup"

Bored of Brian Cox saying he's a fan, when quite clearly he's not, and used the cup run as a PR exercise.

YEAH. Grrr, curse that man; generating publicity for the club in the mainstream media by showing support for his local team. How very dare he put OAFC in the public eye like that. It makes my blood boil, really it does.

I've had enough. Cox out.

Personally I don't mind who claims to support (or not support) the Latics as long as it raises the Clubs profile in the right way

Sadly, Brian Cox reflects the majority of our "supporters".....8,000 home fans against Liverpool, 7,000 home fans against Everton, 4,000 Oldham fans at Goodison, BUT 3,000 home fans against Hartlepool, but hey, as long as Cox name checks us on Jonathan Ross, then we must be doing something right.

1.) I hope he doesn't go on Mastermind and choose us as his specialist topic, for purely selfish reasons.

2.) He raises the clubs profile a bit when he wants to; which is when our profile is already quite high as it is.

3.) He's probably quite loaded; I'd rather see us give a ticket away to some of our "famous" fans who aren't.

4.) Having said that I won't look the gift horse in the mouth if he does rock up to BP and tweets to his 1 million followers he is doing so.

A celebrity says he supports Oldham and doesn't go?! Are we really that bothered fair play to him for still making it public he loves The Latics it doesn't do our name any harm! Good on you Brian!!

I like Coxy, as a true fan he knows there is no definite article in our nickname. DEFINITE FACT.

He's an extremely busy man and he doesn't need PR from us.

1. The Daily Star look to have nicked this from a Q interview where he's talking about pub quiz subjects.

2. He's the most famous scientist in the UK, works on TV and at CERN - why would he need to use Latics for publicity?

Some people would be happier if he went to one of the 2 local dumps and was quoted in interviews saying "I support M*n Scum/:censored:ty, but I used to watch the Latics when I lived in oldham".

Pulling him up for not going often enough when we had 3000 local people who only turned up for the games vs Liverpool and Everton and didn't come for any of the following games?

Nobbers.

"I like football and I used to have a season ticket for Oldham Athletic. Now I tend to watch Manchester United on TV."

There. Now EVERYONE'S happy. Or equally annoyed. Whatever.

He is respected and liked by loads of people. He is intelligent and articulate.

He expresses an affection for the Latics .

is it jealousy, bitterness, the apparent desire to snipe at anyone who is successful that leads to some of the comments on here?

Sadly, that sentiment drives the whole life philosophy of an entire class of British people and seems particularly prevalent in places like Oldham.

The simple jealousy and bitterness towards people who are successful becomes both an unshakeable mistrust of "outsiders", and a feeling of betrayal by those who have left to go on to better things.

I'm convinced that first part is the only reason so many people still vehemently believe that TTA are somehow out to shaft us. I think they'd rather the club shrivelled up and died than have any "outsiders" involved.

Maybe Royston Vasey isn't a fictional place after all...
