melia Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 For me he should start Sunday. If the incentive of playing at Anfield isn't enough then playing against your dads side certainly would be. Could be a real plus for us if Anton plays and has that family competitive streak to beat his dad. In addition, Anton hasn't really been given a chance of a run of games and as we all know results haven't been going our way so ATM I don't see anyone of the guys who have stepped in at CM keeping him out. It's his turn for a game and what a place to stake your claim as a regular... Would he start for you? Quote
Latics_Fanatic Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Depends if Wes is back. Although, Harkins would be probably be higher up the pecking order now... if we're getting smashed off the park, losing by a ridiculous amount, then stick Rodgers on for the sentiment. Quote
palmer1 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Bench for Anton for me if Wes is fit. No room to be sentimental Quote
dec666 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 No, Wes will start if he gets clearance to wear the protective mask. No doubt he'll come on at some point though. Quote
HarryBosch Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Mellor or Winchester will start alongside Smith I'd imagine, and rightly so. I can't see Harkins starting. Quote
keep_the_faith Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Im hoping all the lads are fired up for this one regardless of who their dad is. Quote
bluehobbit Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Nah play our strongest team. Hes ok Anton bit light weight he can come on to sure up thw midfield if we need it. Quote
alex_balls Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 LJ states in the Chron, and I quote... "It will be a nice moment for Anton, it will certainly be special for him as it doesn't happen very often, and it is rare that you get such a lovley sideline story to go alongside a big game like this one." So Anton will play some part in the game I imagine. Quote
slystallone Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Wes will play surely, so long as the protective mask works out? Quote
rudemedic Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Why did we sign him? Has he played- Yes, so we signed him for a reason and a purpose. Wes's fractured Cheek was, I think, the first time either him or Korey have been unavailable, could easily have been very different. Quote
NJ33 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Yes but since wes got injured mellor winchester and now tarky have all had a go it replacing him. effectively making him our 6th choice do we need a 6 choice? Quote
GravityGrave Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I rate Rodgers . Am I in the minority ? Quote
Frankly Mr Shankly Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I rate Rodgers . Am I in the minority ? I think so. He seems nothing special to me. A very ordinary player, but he does put a shift in. He'll be on the bench on Saturday with a five minute runaround when we're 0-4 down at the end. A little clap and a hug with his dad. Jumpers for goalposts. Quote
opinions4u Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I rate Rodgers . Am I in the minority ? His performance at Wolves in the FA Cup was impressive. He passes well, tackles less well. A :censored: Michael Carrick? Quote

disjointed Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I rate Rodgers . Am I in the minority ? I think there is a decent player in there. Next season could be a regular starter. Quote
eyres_28 Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 He's neat and tidy and I like his desire to keep the ball moving, often at a sharp pace, however I can't help but worry about his range of passing allowing him to progress much further than our subs bench. Super through ball for Charlie Mac at Shrewsbury and DP at Wolves (missed), but they are few and far between amongst his many cameos. Add to this is complete inneffectiveness as a tackling / marking CM and he isn't the player we so hoped he could be when he first played. I might be proved wrong and I damn hope so, but it's a no for me and I'm glad Mellor and Winch seem to have jumped ahead in the pecking order, possibly along with Harkin. Quote
Oafc1895 Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 The thing with Anton is that he's not been given a proper run in the team. JCH has shown that if you give a player a good run their form (should) start to improve. However as Eyres says he is well down the pecking order Quote
iamjonesyyoafc Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 His through ball for CMac (against Shrewsbury was it?) showed that there is clearly something in him that threatens to become a better player than he is, just needs prizing out of him. Quote
