City have just unveiled their new badge, which features a Lancashire red rose; how come Oldham's badge doesn't have one in it? Especially given it's more a part of Latics' identity than City's...

Also, watching Stoke, Wolves, practically every team, they have a pre-match song which engages fans - why don't we have one? Obviously they got rid of Mouldy Old Dough, and now it's just empty silence.

I like our badge and don't have a problem with the lack of a red rose. However our pre-match entertainment is dire. I complained about this last season and was told by Ms Warburton that she agreed and it was going to change. The little mites who dance around do their best but really, they look like they've been hauled in at random and dressed out if the lost property bin. Everything at Latics is third rate. Go to any other ground and we look poor in comparison.

I'm not particularly arsed about cheerleading or 'entertainment' as such - I arrive quite late usually - it's more some sort of song to produce an atmosphere from the off. You watch Wednesday, Everton or Chelsea and they've got a recognisable tune going before the game and it feels a bit more atmospheric. Nothing big, but it's only a little thing they could easily improve...

As for the badge, that's not necessarily a criticism, just a query. Most Lancs sides don't.

Well, the Red Rose was an intrinsic part of the club crest until relatively recently . The blog The Beautiful History gives a good summation

"The first emblem was the former coat of arms of Oldham. The shield from the arms originates from that of the ancient Owldham family. It shows three white owls, as a pun on Owldham, divided by a plain gold chevron. The chevron and chief have fluted edges. This decorative edge may have been suggested by that of the diagonal stripes or bendlets in the arms of the Radcliffes, who held Oldham at one period. There is a Lancashire rose on a plain gold chief across the top of the shield and two Os, the initials for Oldham. The owl in the crest is shown on its rock rising from a gold circlet, charged with three Lancashire roses. The motto reads Sapere Aude. Like the owl it contains a play on the name, the second word Aude containing the syllable Owd of the local pronunciation of Owdham or Owldham. The motto translates as Dare to be wise

Our bird of wisdom has appeared in various guises over the years, accompanied by three Lancashire roses from 1946 till 1955, perched on a football in the Sixties and Seventies, and from 1981 on accompanied by an elegant red sash with the club name."

You're showing your age Pete! Sixty years ago (from the blog, 1946 to 1955) is not what most of us would call recently!

Still, great find, a very interesting read, thanks! Good that they end it with a compliment to our "current" badge; hope they don't update it with update it with our current monstrosity of a logo.

What ever happened to half time entertainment? Fat, pissed up blokes slipping on their arse trying to hit the crossbar from the half way line, mascot races, fan versus fan stuff, penalty shoot outs, competitions, etc.

Rochdale had good half-time entertainment. There is very little innovation at Latics. They don't make any extra effort for almost anything. Everything is half-arsed. It breeds mediocrity.

It peaked when that bloke sang 'meat pie, sausage role' in front of the Chaddy. There was no topping that one.

I thought he sang 'youre just too good to be true, cant take my eyes off of you..'

If he sang meat pie sausage roll maybe at least some people may have joined in, instead of a few thousand people just staring awkwardly, in silence, at him.

Yes, Grandad Roberts. He definitely sang it. He even did a little shimmer. That rounded it off nicely. OOOh we got a corner. Oooh, we got a corner.

Yes, awkward silence an end to pre match/half time entertainment.
