Dave_Og
Watching Tarkowski playing (well) for Burnley tonight set me to wondering who has been the best player to come through Latics' youth system? Offers?

UsedtobeWozzer
Got to be Tarky - Burnley’s defence certainly hasn’t suffered since he took over from Keane who went for £25m? My best mates lad is currently in the youth set up so I’m hoping it’s not him for long ?
Dave_Og
From my youth Paul Heaton, John Ryan - both U-21 Interntionals

Isn’t that the reason Udders have ditched some of their youth set up.... ie they’ll let the bigger clubs hoard scores of youths and pick up the Mooy’s when they can’t fit them in front of the multi million pound foreign legions that litter their 2nd and 3rd string eleven....!?! Dave_Og
Chris Makin rarely gets a mention but he had a pretty decent career. He's still playing for Radcliffe Borough, age 44.

That whole era frustrates me even now.... it took me a good 5 years to reset my expectations after being spoilt rotten for much of the decade that preceded it. BP1960
Going back a few years Ian Wood, Les Chapman. John Ryan was very good. Edited October 30, 2017 by BP1960
rudemedic
Gerrard. Sold him for £800,000 rising to £1.5million at a time when the world record for a GK wasn't much more than that. Loads of England youth appearances. If Tarky plays for England/Poland I think he trumps Gerrard, although like someone said we signed him from someone else, I think it was Man U, but until then Gerrard. Mike Milligan played for Ireland so he is in contention.

yarddog73
Pretty sure as a kid we had Tarky initially, he then went to Blackburn before being released and resigning for us.
Senor_Coconut
Wouldn't be a shock to see Tarky called up for England this week
Flemboy
Got to be Tarky Imo. Saw him many times in the youth team down at Hyde alongside Eaves and they both stood out as potential talented players.
