Surprised you didn't mention Klok. Thought he was very good. Flynn, very tidy and Reckford great. Some of Croft's footwork was sublime.

I thought Klok started slow but got better. Agree about Croft, once Flynn went off he (Croft) looked the best player capable of opening their defence up, was quality.

Was watching the keeper warm ups before the game and Kettings dropped everything that was kicked at him.

Only a friendly so means very little but....

Ripley - looks decent. One mistake first half which he immediately recovered from to make a good save

Law - impressed. Bigger & more of a presence than the type of fullbacks we've gotten used to of late. We were told he's a set piece specialist and he went close with a free kick. He should be good for 5 goals+ from these over the season I'd say.

Reckord - again bigger than I thought he was going to be. A steady job, did little wrong that springs to mind

Edmundson - I liked what we saw of him at RB back end of last season and he could be much further along than we were expecting on todays showing at CB. Commanding in the air, won 3 headers impressively in about 10 seconds at one point during the second half.

Vocal too - telling the much older, more experienced Law where to be on several occassions.

Only a friendly but he could well be ready....

Stott - CB. looked OK. Can't imagine Robinson is planning for us to see much of him if Clarke and Burgess come in but if he's needed there's definitely somthing there.

Wilson - played at CB. a solid captains performance. I've never noticed him be so vocal before (it was quiet I suppose).

Flynn - decent first half. Tidy, all round midfielder. Not as noticeable before he went off 2nd half with Hudds coming out on the front foot. Imagine, as expected, he'll be one of our best players this season.

Klok - exactly what we expected. He'll be great between suspensions.

Winchester - I thought he'd filled out in a good way early on but he was goosed way too early. Did little. Gonna be a great shame if he wastes his talent.

Erwin - put himself about, good touch. Looks the kind of player we thought Cassidy was on his first game & a half before injury last season.

Mckay - lively, linked play well. Very optimistic he'll be the goalscorer we've been missing since Baxter.

Nabi - the lad released from West Brom. Looked awful to start with and nobody was passing to him but knuckled down and grew into the game. Worth another look in my opinion.

Croft - I thought he did well when finally called upon back end of last season and he was very good again today. Pushed Edmundson for man of the match from the subs bench. Provided he's not after too much money sign him back up ffs.

Cassidy - I always think criticism of him is a bit OTT as he's never had enough of a run for us to properly judge. If Robinson isn't going to ever start him either we might aswell just get rid. I can't think of a player who's had so little impact from so many substitute appearances.

Brown - great lad, terrible footballer. We were defending very well at 0-0 v Championship opposition until he came on. Within minutes his man created their first. He was shocking.

Kettings - I thought this was our poorest signing so far but he did OK.

Mantack, Woodland, Byrnes & Knight weren't really on long enough to give an opinion.

All in all a decent run out.

What was most promising of all was how organised SR has us looking already after the players being here such a short amount of time.....

If the four we're rumoured to be signing on Monday are all first team starters things could be looking very promising.

Croft, Flynn, Reckord had decent games. Wouldn't bother with the trialist who came on second half at ctr mid.

I'd have another look based on the fact he actually got into the game a bit after looking the worst player I'd ever layed eyes on for his first 10 minutes...

Agreed with the majority bar Edmundson who I thought struggled aerially. Needs to be more commanding and aggressive if he is going to be a league one centre half.

Slightly off-topic, but 7,000 Man United fans at Wigan today. That would boost our coffers if they ever decided to grace us with a friendly.

Don't remember them ever coming to BP pre-season. Did we piss them off back in the 90s or something?

Trialist looked a bit lost position wise at times but very impressive pace and power. Used properly he could be an asset.

Klok seemed to find the pace a bit high, sure he can adapt. Don't know how he get away with flattening their bloke elbow first in front of the North Stand but it's a good skill to have

For me, Croft was the best player on show for Latics - and he's about a stone overweight!

Both their goals came from Connor Brown failing to do his job - not a surprise and I just think it would be cruel to expose him again this season. I know he's contracted but he wouldn't catch many non-league sides to be fair.

Very early days, of course, let's see what develops.

Yeah we took them on over poaching David Brown.

City filled BP pre-season one year - we should play them every year pre-season - would be highest attendance of season by a country mile.

Surprised at the Reckord comments. Thought he looked lost at LWB and panicked when on the ball.

We pressed quite well and generally the defence/midfield pushed up quickly but at times everyone was dropping quite deep.

Croft was our best player, look like we might be a threat at set plays for once. Cassidy looked better than last season, appeared to be quicker aswell.

Why do you think we'll be a threat at set plays? We wasted them all today - corners too near their excellent (!) keeper etc.

Some were wasted. But others, especially free-kicks looked like we had more of a plan rather than a free for all. And we cleared the first man!

about croft

always seems to impress pre season and get a contract but then goes missing during the season. is he not the sort of player a cleanout is supposed to get rid of ?

I rally cant make up my mind about him - and how many goals has he ever scored for us?

I'm not so sure about other seasons he's been with us, but is he the type of player that needs to play every week to keep on top of stuff? .. ie can get quickly demotivated when missing out etc .. that said, as you and others have said put a shift in today .. and has done in the past when we've needed him to!

whereas I'm glad that others have mentioned about our second half left back lol .. i was told I was being unfairly judgemental when I said he was at fault for at least one goal, if not both!!!

Don't re-sign Croft.

The worst contract merchant you'll ever see. As soon as he signs on the line he'll be in Toby Carvery with a syringe loading himself with gravy.

Let's not fall for it again.

He's probably 2 stone heavier than he was this time last year, but that's a good thing if he was using unrealistic training methods to get in shape to earn a contract. I'd be disappointed if he got a contract without strict conditions attached but he is actually quite good at football
