  1. Great win. I watched my local side get off to a winning start (4-0) in the TPL earlier this evening and then followed the Latics victory on Twitter with my dad. To cap it all, my boss is a Gills fan. :-)
  2. First: Jim Fryatt/Maurice Whittle All time: Andy Ritchie/Maurice Whittle Current: JamesWesolowski
  3. I can't remember the most expensive ticket I've bought - probably Stevenage this season - but I recently found my Arsenal League Cup ticket from 89/90. I was surprised to see it only cost four quid to stand in the Chaddy. That seems really cheap.
  4. It has to be Maurice Whittle - my childhood hero. Not just penalties but free kicks as well. Funny to think that two of my all time favourite Latics goals were scored from the spot; Maurice v U*d in 74 & Neil Redfearn v Sheff Wed.
  5. Maurice Whittle's penalty v Man Utd: The greatest moment of my life at that point - I was 11. Neil Redfearn's penalty v Sheffield Wednesday: Surely the best Latics' moment ever? Joe Royle leading the team out at Wembley: Never, ever, thought I'd see the day. Andy Ritchie's goal at Southampton: I switched off the radio after Southampton scored their second late on but decided to watch the highlights anyway. I must have woken up the whole of Kendal when that goal went in! Matt Smith's equaliser v Everton: Watching on TV from 6,000 miles away with my mum and dad. It felt like I was 11 again!
  6. I once got off my sick bed to watch us lose 3-0 away against Tranmere in the League Cup. I think it was1993. I'd been in bed for three or four days with the flu but felt "well" enough to travel in the hope that we would win and I would be cured. I wish I hadn't bothered!
  7. Lee Johnson Tweeted it as being 735 Lee johnson ‏@LDJhepingping22m Great day Big well done to the 735 #Oafc faithful that sang their hearts out for 95 mins !! As Delia says "our 12th man" #who'scomingwithme? Expand Reply Retweet Favorite More
  8. Does anyone remember a short lived, semi-official Latics fanzine called Chad from 1993? I've just uncovered a copy in a box in my mum's loft. There are articles by Tony Bugby, Jim Cassells, Willie Donachie & Joe Royle, amongst others. It's quite an odd little publication.
  9. I'll be there with two others. I think about 400/500 will make the trip.
  10. There are a couple more here from the Singapore Cup semi final in September, 2006: http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc/113109/PhotoGallery/index/page:1?album_id=43748 Me at the Chonburi team hotel and my wife wearing a Latics shirt whilst being interviewed by ESPN/Star Sports. The latter was seen by millions of viewers in Asia. :-)
  11. Try again. Chonburi 1-0 PEA. 1/3/09.http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc/113109/PhotoGallery?album_id=80212
  12. Thanks to owtb poster Latics Lady, there are lots of Latics shirts in Thailand. She was kind enough to donate some of her old ones to under privileged kids a couple of years ago. :-)
  13. I'm excited by the prospect of the new season. However, this might have more to do with the fact that I'll be watching my first match for ten years rather than anything else. :-)
  14. Happy Birthday, Harry. Latics legend, family friend and all round good bloke. He also has the distinction of being The Fall's Mark E. Smith's favourite footballer. :-) WSC: Who were your favourite players? Mark E. Smith: Harry Dowd, the goalkeeper in the championship team in 1968, was the best. He still worked as a plumber part-time and my dad was a plumber too. We used to go behind the goal and Harry would wander over and talk about washers and copper joints. I remember being at a cup tie once and Harry was saying “Do you know if this goes to extra time today, only I’ve got a job on at half five?” then suddenly people are shouting “Harry Harry!” and the team we were playing are charging down the pitch and Harry rushes out, dives at someone’s feet, throws the ball up the pitch then comes back and starts again, “So, is this extra time today...?” Full interview: http://www.wsc.co.uk/the-archive/100-Fan-culture/3751-call-yourself-a-football-fan--mark-e-smith
  15. Thanks. But he won't have much time between the end of the Accy match and the start of ours.
  16. I have a friend from Jakarta who wants to try and get from the Accrington v Portsmouth match (KO 12:15) to the Oldham v Walsall game (KO 3:00) on August 10th. Is there anyone out there who can give me/him a rough idea of how much a taxi would cost? Thanks
  17. According to the official site, FACT 40 is: When Latics made their long-awaited return to England's top flight after an absence of 68 years in 1991, Earl Barrett had the honour of scoring their first goal in a 2-1 opening-day defeat at Liverpool. Read more at http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/news/article/20130624-40days-877197.aspx#fAguGgGVyokKp0gv.99 I always thought FACT 40 was the Joy Division compilation lp Still.
  18. I was at that match but the last game I went to was Scunthorpe away in the 2003 League Cup. We lost 2-1 and it ended up 10v9.
  19. As this will be my first Latics match in ten years, I am especially grateful for this. I can't wait.
