  1. The point I am making to ghostofcecere is that I have absolutely no interest to hear that he is not attending next season. If that makes me a ‘happy clapper’ then you are seriously deluded.
  2. I have absolutely no interest in your non attendance next season either...
  3. Prepare not to be amazed https://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/news/2019/june/19062019/
  4. Agree with super_blue. Banide’s English may be limited but he did understand the questions. However just how many English people will be at the club to allow his language skills to develop is open to debate!
  5. He was an Entertainer. He died so young. We have had some great wingers in my time following Latics. Bebbington, McVitie, Groves, Holden, Adams. I wonder if I will remember Nepomuceno as fondly as I do the above?
  6. Zeus Hamer Iacovitti Stott Hunt Branger Missilou Sylla Maouche Nepomuceno O’Grady There’s a starting eleven to get us out of this league...
  7. As the Women’s World Cup gains momentum and credibility @latics22 , am I correct in thinking that you are still to be convinced that wearing a dress and playing football are mutually exclusive?
  8. Laurent Banide is not the level of coach that many wanted but probably is the level of coach whose appointment many saw as inevitable. Whether you subscribe to the ‘lets at least give him a chance’ or the ‘never heard of him he’s destined to fail’ school of thought, what is inescapable is the continuing sense of unease that pervades much of what goes on at the club. The rumours/hearsay of the Lemsagam brothers’ meddling in team selection made the transition to appointing a head coach as an unavoidable next step. This, coupled with the policy of bringing in lower league players from abroad, meant that it was highly likely any candidates would also be from abroad. Whether the release of the financial results from 2017/2108 will shed any light on Abdallah’s financial approach and commitment to the club remains to be seen. What is unescapable is the feeling that the club is on a precarious footing which could collapse before much longer. The lines from ‘Viva La Vida’ run through my head: “And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand”
  9. Sky Sports News: ’Pep Guardiola announced as new Head Coach at Oldham Athletic. Huge excitement and, to be honest, disbelief among the Oldham fans and the wider footballing community. This unprecedented move has captured the attention of the footballing world with high expectations within the Oldham fan base for the season ahead. When interviewed by Sky Sport’s reporter, Oldham fan Midsblue shrugged his shoulders...’ *Agree with your other comments btw that this does look like an own goal from AL.
  10. Naaah - it went in off his shin. Still a great game though.
  11. I like their Aims, Objectives and Vision. I also note that they are the majority shareholder with the club being sold to them in 2016 for £1.
  12. Interesting. EFL: 'Rooney rule' introduced to 'address under-representation' of BAME managers http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48555148 Did we interview Sol Campbell or was that just media talk I wonder?
  13. The article also refers to the 125 year anniversary which is next year. Expect a special kit to be released... Red and White stripes, dark blue shorts and socks possibly
  14. So did 29 other clubs apparently - including the likes of Wimbledon, QPR, Coventry, Swindon, Sunderland, Barnsley, Charlton, Portsmouth and Blackpool.
  15. He’s on the earlier list as assistant in the Professional staff section. if the new man brings in his own assistant then possibly he could take the academy head role?
  16. That is not really the point I was making. I was commenting on the managerial appointment. Any new manager/coach brought in will need time to get up to speed with the club’s approach/facilities/budget. Any players he recommends will need researching and then the negotiations would take place. With any players that our owners ‘recommend’ there will also be a lead time. An extra month for a coach/manager would prove beneficial I feel.
  17. Is four weeks enough time for a new manager to get to know his squad and prepare for the season start? Possibly yes. Is this ideal preparation? Probably no. Financial prudence or penny-pinching? False economy? Definitely.
  18. Two months tomorrow until the opening game.... Though I have been a season ticket holder for thirty years and do get up to as many of the home games as I can, I am looking forward with interest to one or two away games. In no particular order: Plymouth - I have two godsons who live in Devon; I and their dad will be taking them to Home Park for their first ever game... could be enough to put them off for life... Leyton Orient - have a mate who has followed the ‘O’s through the good and the bad - a few of us are into the smoke for this one - there are a couple of very decent pubs near the ground and I’m on the train ... Forest Green - those vegan samosas... Salford - will be tough to get a ticket I reckon but one not to miss Love the home games but Away Days are just special.
  19. As always Billy, kudos to you for another prompt response. Given all that has gone on in recent times and the negative publicity that has surrounded the club, I cannot help but feel that this price increase is a huge own goal. The additional income that this ‘initiative’ will generate surely cannot offset the bad feelings that it has already instigated? The club is part of the community and this does nothing to strengthen that bond - I would urge the club to consider reversing this decision.
  20. ‘Confirmation by AL/DS (club) that the playing budget for next year is 100% better that (sic) this season.’ so you can interpret ‘100% better’ as meaning ‘definitely better’ OR you can interpret ‘100% better’ ’ as meaning ‘double’ I think that most would choose the latter.
