  1. he's only had 5 months, could take him 18, massive mistake this, just watch him fire them in now, and before anyone put the SPL down, its as good a standard at League 1 if not better.
  2. ha, I give you your dues. In all seriousness, 1st half i'm joking, gotta admit if I say so myself, the part about the Latvian kid valletting Johnson senoirs car made me lol, must just be my sense of humour. 2nd part is where i'm definitely at.
  3. 10 Months ago, Oldham appointed Lee Johnson as manager, what did I know about him? Well, I knew he was lower league fodder who trundled his way around the West Country clubs following his father who managed said clubs in the greatest bit of neputism the world has ever seen. Johnson wasn't good enough to play in a Championship play off final side, but was picked anyway by his father, much to the annoyance of the Bristol City faithful. As his career dwindled, earlier than he expected at the age of 30, but later than expected for those of who regular play Football Manager, Johnson pimped himself around the Scottish divisions looking for a club as he knew that level, akin to that of the football conference in England, that he'd do ok for a season or two, in the event he managed 20 appearances but it was enough time to develop his contact list for future management, he knew that he'd get a position eventually in the lower leagues of England due his Dad having a word with a few of the chairmen he knew, after all Johnson senior is well thought of throughout English, and Latvian football. With a scouting network consisiting of his gran, his great aunt and his dog shep, he decided to rely on the 3 or 4 players he knew from Scotland, some of his dads cast offs and a Latvian bar worker who had never kicked a ball before, but he was tall and he regularly valetted Johnson Seniors car in Riga. He set about his task of keeping Oldham up, this was done with only 3 points to spare, but credit where credit's due we stayed up by the skin of our teeth. The next season he promised us goals galore, an unrivalled scouting network with due dilligence on the players we would sign. We ended up with a young centre midfielder at centre half, a striker that couldn't score in the Georgian, and a load of powder puff imports from Scotland. To further enhance his reputation he chastised players in public on a number of occasions, further ruining morale. He promised the Oldham faithful goals goals goals, but 1-0 or 2-1 is a common theme, we play well scream the deluded fans, which is not actually that factual, we are defensively compact which is what has restricted teams to only score 1 or 2 but in terms of going forward, its lackluster. What did I expect, alot bloody more i'll say after Salesman Lee promised the Earth, but delivered us space dust. We are in a relegation dog fight, if we don't go down this season, we will next.
  4. No, being totally serious, young rookie inexperienced manager turns up, produced high quality football for first few months of tenure, gets worked out, slides towards bottom of the league on long winless runs and failing to score goals. Seems like Groundhog day to me. And for what it's worth I was a massive fan of Dickov, such a shame he lost his bottle after a couple of drubbings, but he played the smooth talking card, and Johnson is playing it too, despite the flack he's gotten he should stick with what he believes for now, even if it means it doesn't work out for him, he won't know unless he sticks with it.
  5. People didn't want Phil Brown but he's working wonders at Southend...another club that is likely to surpass us in the near future. Alot of what I say about Johnson is designed to wind a few of you lot up who bite way too easily may I add. I was/am refreshed with what he is doing, but the similarities with Dickov are too great to ignore.
  6. Out of interest, what's that chant all about, do they see themselves as the people's club?? I just remember a load of pissed up scots chanting it from pub after pub, even one bloke from high up in Chorlton Street car park, what he was doing up there I don't know. The next morning, Manchester was hanging, crap everywhere, literally, on the floor, in doorways, and it stunk!!! I imagine if Manchester gets another final in the future, fans will be moved to Heaton Park pronto.
  7. haha sorry only joking, I couldn't resist. I don't associate myself with either club. Will never forget the Rangers fans in Manchester 2008, what a horrendous day.
  8. It's always refreshing to see religious bigotry cloud one's opinion. We've been absolutely BRILLIANT this season. 'Mon the Gers WE ARE THE PEOPLE. RFC
  9. He was a crap Prime Minister, and is getting on a bit, so I don't think he'll be very good now at our level, although if Harkins can get a gig...
  10. I've replied to you guys, because I know that whether I agree or I don't agree with you, you are fair. BUT the reason is similar to what Wizzo just said, lots of talk about this that and the other, but the fact of the matter is, we're in another relegation battle and i'm struggling to see how we're going to get out of it, and i'm extremely concerned, that is why I have been spouting off. Yeah I know i've been going on recently so i'll knock it on the head for a bit.
  11. If the manager of a professional football league club, logged onto the fans message board and took even the slightest bit of a notice of what was being said then i'd want him strung up on the town hall steps. What a load of bollocks. So basically we all have to be positive all the time about manager, club and players in case anyone of them happens to log on here and gets upset or offended by it. Ok then. zzzz Just as I mentioned last week, a few people were getting on the manager's back, I said it wouldn't be long before the brews and biscuits were out in play again, he's a brilliant salesman. I hope you're all still so positive after Oldham 0-1 Stevenage tomorrow.
  12. Surely Mark Innes and John McGinlay should be in there..... Joking aside I don't know most of those names as I'm not old enough. So from more mdoern times, i'm throwing Gary Mac in straight away, Liddell was class but if he's Scottish then I am.
  13. wow, just read the full thread, that's 15 minutes of my life i'm never going to get back.......
  14. It's like bloody arts and crafts in that Kop, I know they don't work all day but they could do something more productive than make flags. BUT, the YNWA song at Anfield is probably one of the greatest spectacles to be seen at a football stadium, there are countless videos on youtube of the great Champions League nights where fans of clubs such as FC Barcelona are stood in awe at the site. Then you have tinpot Oldham trying there best to ruin a great spectacle.
  15. Here's my theory I believe they are bored, they are bored because they can't drink, they can't go clubbing, they have to be at their optimum for the games, the only thing they can do is gamble, and they gamble big, it's not like £20 here or there, it's tens of thousands, look how many football related people own horses. Their debt multiplies and multiplies until its £200,000, £300,000, £500,000 etc etc, even though that's two weeks wages, they cant go to their wives and say, sorry love im half a million down with x y or z So x y or z, says you know what, let a goal into, score an own goal, make sure you don't win etc and then i'll wipe your debt off. Jobs a gooden.
  16. Kin hell, I dared to challenge the manager last week and I got lambasted, but now when you disagree with someone you just "differ on opinion" By reading owtb, twitter and the media I feel justified not attending the game yday, stabbings, "where were you at crawley, gillingham" et al, "sit down", "no you never come games", mellors :censored:, tarky must be leaving because he waved to his family, Rooney's crap (when asked to do defensive duties against a top 4 prem side), I heard one or two complain that they're fed up of Oldham not scoring, and we should have gone for it like Dickov did, (where we lost 5-1) cant believe rodgers came on to please his dad and the media...... yadayadayada zzzzz
  17. Totally agree, everytime an own goal goes in, or Guiseppe Hearto makes a mistake, or a silly penalty (See Pennant) is given away, straight away my curiosity pricks. It's a bit like having a cricket team, who are pretty much the best in the world, they win 3 ashes on the trot, including a 3-0 victory 6 months prior to playing the current series against a side who hadn't won a test match for months. They then go on and lose 4-0, potentially facing a 5-0 whitewash. Weird old world sport.
  18. No, to be fair, I do think it's a good thing that he appreciates that the fans have a massive interest in what's happening at the club, but does it attract new fans??? does it push us higher up the table? The only benefit I can see is a group of fans (more than likely older (than children)) who get the opportunity to take their hobby and interest in Latics that 1 or 2 or three steps further than any other professional club in England would do, it's none of our business asking Johnson in person what his transfer targets or what his future tactics are to be, that's what OWTB was invented for is it not?? to speculate and rib him and then when we win 2 on the bounce, praise him to high heaven. I feel his time would be better served on the training ground.
  19. Brilliant, only yesterday, I declared it wouldn't be long until he got the brews and biscuits out again, absolutely priceless. Great for fans (kids) to get to see the manager, but I couldn't see Mourinho doing this, i'd rather he spent the hour working out how to win matches at Boundary Park!
  20. How about fashizzle my nizzle, i'm perfectly entitled to voice my concerns about the naughty boy and his signings without being so politely referred to as a "dick".
  21. LJ states in the Chron, and I quote... "It will be a nice moment for Anton, it will certainly be special for him as it doesn't happen very often, and it is rare that you get such a lovley sideline story to go alongside a big game like this one." So Anton will play some part in the game I imagine.
  22. Sorry wasn't aimed at you, I quoted you as it as the one that I saw mention Bury first. The jist was, there was like a page of posts that hinted at posters being unhappy he's from non league, but seemed happy if Bury hadn't released him and we'd signed him direct from Bury, he'd have been a good signing.
