  1. Not my experience of the person alluded to. I draw your attention to your latter clause.
  2. Far post? No one on the far post when every corner actually taken by Colchester. We were lucky not to conceed another one possibly two. This seems to be the new way of defending. Just asks for trouble as far as I can see (yes I know I am old fashioned)! By the way I would like one on the front post as well and I would like keepers to come out and catch the odd cross too.
  3. Me too. 4 January 1962, 41,733 and barriers gave way in the Chaddy. 2 : 1 to Liverpool, Johnny Colquhoun our scorer. Plus an Oldham goal not dissimilar to Englands world cup goal of '66 disallowed for Oldham. I think our cross bar was round in those days Jack Rowley had it changed to oval cross section for the following season (this may be myth of course). Ian St John scored Liverpool's, this was the start of the Liverpool era with Shankly as manager. Liverpool wer division 2 then I think going up as champions. Happy days.
  4. The fact is that most of the players of league 1 quality have gone (yes, they should have kept us up) and we have replaced with league 2 quality players (or less), so to get out of this league a point away and 3 at home must be the aim. We do not have enough quality to rip up this league, so a point last night is ok, particularly at a ground where we have a poor record (yes I do think that is important). Before the usual suspects start, no I am not a happy clapper. In fact I am very unhappy about the club's situation.
  5. Seems pretty serious as he’s not figured at all. Another wasted wage. If you don’t play talent counts for nowt.
  6. 1 November 1958, vs Watford, lost 3-5. Peter Phoenix scored 1of the goals. Went with my Dad and we changed ends at half-time.
  7. RIP. Condolences to the family. Will be missed on here.
  8. Fair reasoned comment, I just got fed up with the mindless tosh spoken about tennis. It is a tough sport you are involved in every point and game points, set points and match points can be akin to a penalty shoot out, there's no where to hide. Whereas in a well contested football match the outfield players will only have an average of about four and a half minutes possession in the whole game, yes I know there is supposed to be a lot of running off the ball (well we hope to see it even at Latics). It is too easy to write off sports that one knows nothing about.
  9. Wisdom from those who have never played the game seriously. Football: 2 matches in a week is too much, when 10 others plus subs take the strain. Don't make me laugh!
  10. Irrelevant, talking about stamina and mental toughness.
  11. Sorry folks, but England are light years behind France, Croatia and Belgum. There is one positive though, looks as if we have found a keeeper. With regard to the tennis, the top pros. are far superior athletically and in mental strength to any footballer.
  12. Some of thes lads I'm watching at the moment look ok. Can we have some like these?
  13. I think the reality of our position is that it will be unknown 'French lads' or journeymen who don't give s**t. In fact for too many years it's been the latter. We were hoping for a saviour, but sadly not looking that way at the moment.
  14. Only saw bits of the game and some highlights. I wasn't sure if were playing rugby or American Football judging by the number of body tackle and blocks from the Tunisians. Ref should have sorted it and as someone else said what is VAR for if not to pick up this sort of play.
  15. Like guiding us to league 2, despite having a squad good enough to more than survive.
