Totally agree about Sharp the player, he looked a class above anything we had at the time and it was clear he was a player who’d spent his career in the top flight. He was never a clinical finisher in his career, but always scored a decent amount of goals. It’s true to say though that miss in the SF but perhaps worse the one at Goodson in the league when he was 1 on 1 with Southall and virtually passed it to him (and then winked at the Gwladys Street end!) were boots on his playing career with us.

If Corporal Jones was still around on here (and I suspect he still is with a different username) he would tell you, and he’s right, that it was failure to invest by the owners at the time when we were in the Premier League that has lead to the point we find ourselves today. Lees brewery were the focus of the “stop the rot” campaign of the mid to late 90’s, they wouldn’t invest, and they wouldn’t sell.

The Brentford owner is a fan, and the Bournemouth owner falls into my catagory of someone with billions who fancies a go at playing football club owner. Not impossible that Latics could find someone like that I agree, but I’d be surprised if there are many around willing to give it a go. Corney actually had the right idea with the North Stand with the club having a means to generate income 7 days a week, this is the best sustainable outcome we could have had. But as we all know, the execution of his plan has been nothing short of catastrophic!

I think Mike Keegan tweeted he’d heard a rumour about Pearson, but nothing more. Again, I can’t see what anyone gets out of ‘investing’ in a lower league football club as you will never see a return, so I doubt Pearson would be interested. I think you have to be a fan (or someone like AL who wants to play at being football club owner) to want to waste your money in that way.

We never made 20K in the league during that period, it was something like 15K for the Easter game against the Hammers. I do have a recollection that we got 24K against City in about 83/84/85 time though, but I didn’t go to that game.
