I’ve was lucky enough to have been around during the “pinch me” years and so I’ve visited most of the big clubs around the country, I also went to Genoa away in the Anglo Italian Cup. Whilst one or two teams have new stadiums I’d like to watch Latics at, there’s one away day I’ve not managed to do that’s perhaps slightly odd. I’m dying to see Latics play at Fulham, no idea why, it’s just a ground I’ve not got to that I’ve always fancied visiting. How about the rest of you?

Fans have to stop thinking of takeovers like this in terms of being a fan, the modern game is sadly a business, and we have to get used to thinking of it like this. The deal is between businessmen and as such all we will get to learn is whatever they choose to tell us, which could be nothing. Just enjoy the football and hope under new ownership there are happier times ahead.

To avoid too much disappointment, I think you should accept that you will never get to find out such detail if and when any deal between Mr. Lemsagem and Mr. Corney and potentially Mr. Blitz and Mr. Gazal goes through. Businessmen don’t tend to like details about their business dealings getting into the public domain, and it is indeed their business and no one else’s.

If you look though, there are examples of good publicity surrounding the club. In the last week or so we have seen the emergency services day for the home game against Northampton, and also the Latics Christmas appeal. Whilst I agree there has been far too much bad publicity surrounding the club over the last 10 years or so, it seems certain elements within the club are at least trying to turn that around.

He told me the reason he didn't take it before was because taking on Latics (or any management role) would be a 24/7 job and he didn't think it was fair to his kids. He'd spent a lot of his time away from home during his playing days and this time away from home was one of the reasons he quit playing for England. And initially retired from United. This was in March 2015, maybe now circumstances in his family life are different.
