  1. In hindsight, voting him as player of the season and giving him all the accolades has been counterproductive. Defo been used as a bargaining tool.
  2. Interesting. We'll never know if he'd have been as/more effective at this level though... He never got a fair chance.
  3. Ha. I did wear 10. Think I always based it on Latics' 91 team. Probably the last time I even looked at things like that. Henry at 4. Assumed how it was then was how it would always be. Wrong on many levels.
  4. Always consider 8 (alongside 9) to be a forward (8 for Ritchie was always on the back of my shirt growing up). 11 and 7 left/right wingers... 4 defensive midfielder and 10 attacking midfielder. 5 and 6 centre halves.
  5. He's still only 19. It was right to use him sparingly for the most part. This season he should've got more games. Sheridan regretted not giving him more... Unsworth...
  6. I do think a lot was expected from him given how early he was in and around the first team. He never quite lived up to it and didn't ever get the run he probably needed. You could always see he was a gifted footballer though. His touch and the way he moved was miles better than owt else we had.
  7. Spoke to George a couple of times in Marsden. Think he's got dementia Unfortunately. Always asks for a tab. Apparently his wife died a few years back. Well known for just wondering around those parts. He did tell me the same story each time... He used to tell the opposing winger that "the hospital's over there". When they'd ask why... He'd say "cos that's where you're ending up".
  8. I like the positivity on here in terms of our potential at the moment. For years on this site, people have been saying we're tinpot and destined for sub 4k crowds until eternity.
  9. Good listen. Did an Inbetweeners 'beep beep beep...' every time Marc White got a mention though.
  10. You'd think it'd just be 24 teams for and 24 against if it was just the clubs voting. 18 months ago we'd have been well against it.
  11. Keep seeing this... Is there actually a chance of it happening?
  12. Knew this argument was gonna come. In all honesty though, you bought because you could. Has anyone really put themselves massively out to save themselves 70 quid? I do get the point but it might be beneficial to the club and your fellow fans to extend it. Surely you wouldn't begrudge that. I've "lost out" being a ST holder previously but have never been arsed. I chose to buy it.
  13. I would be pissed off if I'd paid full price a week before. Either extend or don't. Prices are fair either way and I don't think the club have done anything wrong. Could make good business sense to extend though. Maths ain't a strong point but 1000 at £290 is better than 500 at £350. Just don't get the desire for the club to rigorously enforce the deadline. Doesn't make a difference.
  14. Don't disagree and the club aren't out of order if they don't extend the deadline. If they did though, the only people it'd (positively) impact are those who bought later and saved themselves a few quid. Reminds me of the 'in for a quid' etc. No skin off anyone's noses.
  15. I'm not saying they're obliged to extend it. What they've done is fair. Sounds like some would be pissed off if they did extend it though.
  16. And why not? Position it as a gesture of goodwill in an uncertain economic climate. It's an easy write up.
  17. Anyone know how Vaughan's transfer worked? Speaking to a Hull fan and he was raving (started the last 3 or so). He was on a professional contract and not solely due compensation? My guess to him (because he thought they'd poached him from the Youths)... We gave him away and added a massive (30% or so) sell on clause. Purely guesswork on my part but he's of the opinion he'll be being watched in the non-too-distant. Anyone know how it actually worked?
  18. His confidence apparently took a hit at the Junior Latics bowling thing... A poster on here told him he was his lad's favourite player because he was "always warming up in front of him". As close to a legend who we've had in the last few years. Hope he gets on the pitch Saturday. It's a meaningless game over-all. Room for a bit of sentimentality in my view.
  19. Exactly how I see it. Just gutted it wasn't us as the story would've resonated as well (if not better) to the general public (town decline, previous Premier League club etc etc). At least they are a proper club and it isn't Salford or Fylde etc.
  20. He was. But he was a grafter and taken too early. That was always the concensus really. Always thought Dux was overrated and remembered more fondly as the years passed. He was a battler in a shit team.
  21. I think he should go as much as the next man but there'd not be the hysteria about this if we were top of the table. If it was me he'd told to fuck off, I wouldn't lose any sleep.
  22. If you think Vaughan should've played more and not been sold, who else do you aim the criticism at?
  23. Even if he wasn't ready to be playing week in and week out, he should've had more chances and we should've looked to tie him down and get him in the side next season. As soon as he got the chance to back up his theory that he wasn't good enough, he stuck the knife in. Just seems very self-motivated to me.
