  1. Glad to hear that Matt. I did something very similar myself particularly by disappearing from OWTB for about 6 or 7 years from 2009. I was doing and saying a number of things that I wasn’t proud of and it was masking some very real personal issues from which I’m now fully recovered. Living virtually permanently in an online world whether that is on here or elsewhere can be a dangerous existence to one”s emotional wellbeing.
  2. You are right. It’s beer o’clock for us though on the 08:33 from Darlington tomorrow so you maybe confusing me with someone who gives a shit come kick off
  3. I work with a lot of Bradford fans. They are anything but confident. Most want shot of Doyle too. Bradford 5 (Doyle 5) Latics 0 (missed Pen, Vera) And no, I’m not joining your fucking prediction league before you ask (again)
  4. I’m with you on this. I could never vote for the Clown Led Group. I want the FLG to be the answer but for now, I don’t know enough about them to give them my vote. As I’ve said before, I believe that they are an interim party, someone there in case it all goes tits up with the CLG, holding things together until a new buyer can be found. Got a lot of time for Paul Whitehead. Wood and Brooke are longtime Latics fans too and I am certain all three have the right intentions. Those behind them are question marks though and we have waded through enough shit as fans for the last couple of generations that in my opinion, nobody can tell me that blindly backing the FLG is warranted at the moment.
  5. If anyone has Totally Wow iptv, it’s on in the Live football section.
  6. There were quite a few Latics fans shaking his hand before the game. Expect he will be out for a few weeks with a sore shoulder
  7. As Mills was booked, I don’t think that retrospective action can be taken. I was stood about 5 metres from the incident and it didn’t look bad at all at the time but one of my lads said there was footage on the internet which made it look like a really nasty challenge. Haven’t seen it myself though. Hope Williams recovers fully and quickly.
  8. Owning a football club is for the very, very rich or the very, very stupid. I’d be surprised if they are either. I suspect what they want is a regime change with an owner who passes their fit and proper person test, not the EFL’s. I would be delighted if that were to happen.
  9. Maybe they’re being careful about giving out commercially sensitive information?
  10. Defence including goal keeper did well. I was on Sefil watch and thought he was ok. Mills was mom for me and with Hamer, gives us a strong left flank. Other side not so good but Iacovetti was alright when defending. Midfield was weak as piss. B-E and Maouche were slightly more visible than Missilou. Thought Sylla did his job pretty well but he’s never going to create much. Felt sorry for Wilson and Azankpo. No service and had to run their bollocks off as FGR’s game plan was to pass it around at the back before launching a 20% ball out to the wings. Rapturous applause from the locals when 1 in 5 of the attempts stayed in play. Sterile ground in the middle of nowhere. No atmosphere and an atrocious homer ref. Don’t mention the 4 hangovers either. I daren’t check the hotel bar bill until we check out tomorrow. After they’d scored it started to rain. Then Vera came on. To cap it all, when it seemed like it couldn’t get any worse. Joseph Mills was announced as man of the match. The tart.
  11. You quit too soon Dave. Practise of Banking II was where things really got exciting
  12. It’s a long time since I used to teach Law Relating to Banking (living the dream eh?) but IIRC, a floating charge (mortgage debenture) will be crystallised and secured against all assets of the Company if the debt is called in. The debenture will also give other rights such as being able to appoint your own named insolvency practitioner effectively meaning they will work to protect your interests rather than anybody else’s.
  13. Buzzing for this one. Me and my 3 lads are travelling down to the South West early Friday afternoon returning on Sunday. Middle son is 18 on Wednesday so I’m looking forward to buying him his first legal pint - if he’s recovered from his current holiday in Kavos that is. Even my eldest has got a weekend off from work which is difficult for him but brilliant news for him, me and his brothers. We have decided that this season will be one of away days, new grounds, food, drink and plenty of laughs. We may get to BP, but as a family, have no wish to support the current regime. We are a fickle family of four though so that may change after a few wins I’ve been a Latics’ fan for 50 years. Despite having no affinity to Oldham, having been born in Newcastle, Northampton and Darlington respectively and with plenty of other more successful temptations in footballing life, my boys want to support Latics and nobody else. This weekend to me is what supporting your team means and to be honest, a lot of it is due to the tribalism that this infectious game creates. It’s why all of us argue and debate so much on here as we care passionately about our Club. Our Club. Not the CLG’s. Not the FLG’s. Not TTA’s, Torex’s, JWL’s nor any of the other temporary custodians past, present or future. None of the players are at fault for the shit show that our Club has become. They will get our total support win or lose. Provided that they give a shit and play to the best of their abilities and for me, the bar hasn’t been set very high. Yes I wish we still had Clarke and Baxter. Maybe there’s still hope for Lang or a Surridge type to join on loan. But if it’s Iacovitti or Maouche or Desire wearing the shirt then so be it. The fault is not theirs. Obviously, I want us to win. Playing well would be ok. Whatever happens though, I hope the atmosphere is one that is safe and supportive meaning we can all leave FGR feeling proud of ourselves and our team. One thing I am certain of is that 90 minutes of football will not spoil my weekend with my boys nor being part of our big Oldham family. ”We’re Taking Over Your Tofu Again”. See you on Saturday
  14. I stayed round that area on Deansgate a few weeks ago and would have murdered for pudding, chips and gravy.
  15. He has been working for Rochdale for the last 32 years so his focus probably wasn’t on Latics!
  16. Funnily enough, I was referred to as a Midlander at work today (by a Geordie)
  17. For those planning trips and pre-paying hotels/ trains, the fixtures at Cheltenham (4 Jan) and Salford (25 Jan) fall on FA Cup 3rd and 4th round dates.
  18. In normal business, yes. A football club, a significantly dysfunctional one at that, is far from normal. I’ve worked with a number of NEDs. None of them have ever had a lifelong emotional investment in the company. I guess we just need to see how this plays out over the next 3 months before he gets shit-canned
  19. You are right Dave that he may not be given full access but if the intention was to appoint a patsy, then there would have been candidates who would be easier to manipulate. I’m surprised by this appointment. Without seeing the rest of the applicants, his CV (looking at his Linked-In profile) is what I would have hoped for. He looks like a NED who can challenge effectively. Hence the surprise that he’s been selected. Cautious optimism from me.
  20. My other true sporting love for the last 40+ yrs has been the Green Bay Packers. Shares in the Corporation are basically worthless. But many thousands of people pay $250 a piece just to “own” a piece of the organisation. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Bay_Packers,_Inc. Sometimes, an investment is worth much more than any intrinsic value. More information is is needed but I’d love to own a part of Boundary Park.
  21. Perhaps the bigger budget required in League 1 isn’t palatable? I don’t know. I just couldn’t understand why some of our players were celebrating a nil-nil draw away at Cheltenham when as fans, we had started the match boosted by the Exeter defeat that meant a play-off place was in our own hands. Just got home though and it was a cracking away trip. Shame about the football
  22. It was different yesterday to Northampton. Most players did give a shit but I think they had a different objective to the rest of us. Iversen slowed the game down, we took off a forward and replaced him with a fullback, Clarke and Edmundson hugged each other ecstatically at full time. They were playing for a clean sheet, the win wasn’t important. The only thing we could come up with when talking about the disappointment last night is that somebody has decided that we don’t want to be promoted. Sad.
  23. A few weeks ago, you were bitching and moaning telling us all that Scholes should come out and say what happened. Now that he has, live on TV, you’re telling us it’s just rumour and bias. Last night, you said you hadn’t listened to the discussion and judging by your ill informed comments, you still haven’t, or you’re choosing to hear what supports your argument. Did someone mention bias? AL said he had asked his legal people to look into ‘the lies told in the press’ following Scholes’ departure. Do you really think the BT Sports Producer told Scholes to shoot with both barrels in a live TV discussion? He said a lot more than I thought he would to be honest - including that he hadn’t done a particularly good job. What he has done though is totally expose our obnoxious owner publicly. Whatever anyone thinks, that’s possibly the best thing that could have come out of this sorry saga.
