  1. Hope you're being facetious there because despite his limitations he does a hell of a lot of work which goes unnoticed by many. He wouldn't be my first choice as a centre forward but I can see his good points, but then again maybe I'm more easily pleased than other League 2 fans.
  2. You must have noticed that FB doesn't openly say which players are injured unless pressed so to assume he "didn't fancy him" is a bit of an imagination stretch, even for this forum. We've got at least three players who will need a bit of injury/fitness management at present so just 'cos we don't see them for the full 90 minutes every match won't mean they're "out of favour".
  3. I don't seriously think people are comparing the two as players, just that not everyone needs to be a Georgie Best or Bobby Charlton you also need Nobby Stiles types as well. (Sorry about the Manure analogy). As someone said when a teacher called him a clown, "Well we can't all be lion tamers Sir".
  4. But they basically did the same job, albeit at different levels and with different degrees of success.
  5. Amazing that you can see that a number of professional footballers have no chance of improving whilst playing together. It's all black and white with some of our lot, there's no grey areas.
  6. .....wonder why ? It's because until the last week or so your posts were invariably negative and people respond like for like. We're Latics fans we watch them play; can see all the negative points for ourself; take the shit off Premiership "fans" who wouldn't know how to get to "there" own ground; have seen our club fall from the premier division and our crowds fall and our club back to where they were when I started supporting it - we don't need one of our own adding to it !!
  7. Thought he said it's cost him 3m so far not liabilities of 3m. Will agree he messed up last season if he interfered with team matters but I'm not sure he's to blame for the Byrne fiasco. Looks like he's taken a dislike to a couple of players who "speak their mind/gob off" (whoever's side you take) and has disciplined them accordingly.
  8. So do I but it doesn't look as if Surridge will be 100% fit, if at all.
  9. I suppose if you own something that's your prerogative.
  10. Think/hope we will when both are 100% until then we struggle with what's available, although I think one of O'Grady or Miller would be a fair combination with a younger partner.
  11. Was trying to reinforce his point, probably not very well !
  12. Problem is you're setting a precedent for everyone else to take the piss, whether they're better than the rest or not.
  13. So a newly appointed manager who has great respect for a club he played a significant part in their glory years should back down to an over-hyped gobby little 4th division footballer who apparently has broken a TEAMMATE'S leg and intimated he doesn't want to take part in training ? Good Luck with that one !
  14. That's why I put the ? can vaguely remember it was near/over a river, but then again I'd had quite a few pints before I arrived !
  15. Can remember Friezland Bowling Club ? after time drinking with my Dad some Thursday nights many moons ago. Sometimes I would go straight from work with a mate who lived in Uppermill to Fletcher's Paper Mill (where Dad did shift work) play tennis then snooker and have a pint till he finished at 10 o'clock. The canteen lady made us something to eat FOC and we'd make it to Friezland before closing time. The Steward left a crate of brown and a crate of pale bottles for after he turned-in, you just put the correct money on a beer tray next to them. He said the first time it was short he'd "sack it!" - never was ! Happy Days.
  16. How many different ways are they to say nothing ? It bores me to tears watching pre-match and some post-match "pressers" the same old questions are asked and the manager/player trots out the same stock answers. Seriously, if someone asked the "real questions" you desire you wouldn't get honest answers from 90% of managers or players ( don't forget players etc.. are coached into non answering most enquiries ).
  17. Yes I think that was how it happened. Don't think Johnston was a kid, more mid-twenties, and a schoolteacher if my memory serves me well. It was sad to see him vainly trying to resurrect his career. A time when footballers just wanted to play not be seen as demigods to be revered for "kicking a bag of wind !"
  18. Great footballer. His class shone through the few times he played for us. Can remember one match we were winning fairly easily and he dribbled round a couple of defenders, was about to do the same to the goalie in front of the Chaddy and the ref blew for time ! Was instrumental in the change to "electric orange" and an influx of Northern Irish youngsters, some of whom were better than others. Ronnie Blair, Allen Hunter, Derek Spence and one who I believe would have been really good barring a badly broken leg Billy Johnston. Can remember watching him limping through reserve matches during his failed comeback bid thinking I'd been cheated out of watching a potentially great player. His and Bates' arrival kick-started my real love of Latics and led to watching us play some great attacking football, winning the Ford Sporting League and eventually gaining promotion.
  19. ........also struggle to see why you've downboated my post but heho if it makes you feel better fire on !
  20. Not keen on Ronaldo as a person but struggle to see the comparison.
  21. The problem with getting premiership academy cast offs is the ridiculous wages they're on ( ten grand a week teenagers who've never played a competitive match ) so they'd automatically be our top earners with little or no pedigree. What we need to do is develop our own, play them and be sufficiently funded that we don't have to sell them for a song when the offers come along.
