Well after the events in recent weeks, both on and off the field, I suppose this was always on the cards. I'd just like to thank John Sherdian for all his efforts over the last 3 years as our manager and the previous outstanding service as a player and a coach.

I was always in favour of giving JS at least till the end of the season, then he could have been judged correctly to have either suceeded (would probably been by the skin of our teeth!) or failed to get us out of this division.

Having said that, if he had lost the dressing room, then its a near impossible task to get it back and results would have continued to suffer.

I wouldn't class myself as a 'happy clapper' but I always try to stay optimistic about Latics even in the darkest of days.

But to all the 'Shez Outtters' on here and the morons calling for his head at the game yeasteday, what are your expectations for this club?

Do you really think TTA are going to be flooded with applications for the job from experienced, successfull managers? I doubt it.

Thinking realistically of people who fall into this bracket, would Boothroyd, Cotterill et al really relish the prospect of coming to BP? I can't see it somehow.

So who does that leave on the list? Jim Gannon? Not sure why he seems to be a popular choice. He's done well at County on limited resources but in my eyes isn't as good as Sheridan in any department.

A return for Big Fat Joe or Stitch? I'd love to see Royle back but I don't think he would be up for it. Is Ritchie any better qualified than Sheridan to take us up? Not sure.

I can see the reality being the appointment of another 'Ronnie Moore or Brian Talbot' type of manager, someone who is just there to take a wage and doesn't give a damn about the club.

Who would wecome a return to 'hoof-ball' next season?

Just feels to me than even tho he's made mistakes recently (who hasn't!), the board have been swayed by the fans who fail to get behind Shez and the team.

So for all of you who got on his back who do we replace him with now? Who can we get to come to the club who would be a better manager, get better results and play better football?

After listening to the opinions of the fans of other clubs on Sheridan, a lot seem to think we're daft for getting rid of one of the best young managers in the league. He won't be out of work for too long and I'm sure he'll be a sucess as a manager.

Was well chuffed when he got the job.Thought he was the right man to take us on.Hope the players take a good look at themselves and their role in his departure.

Cheers John. All the best for the future.

Thanks for the memories John - FA Cup runs, play-offs, big derby wins and showbiz football played on the floor. You are a Latics Legend and will remain so forever as far as I am concerned.

You were 100% loyal to your senior pros because that is your character - Loyal and 100% geniune as a bloke.

John, you have given us lots of pride as Latics boss and a player where you put yourself second to the good of the club and for all of this I personally thank you.

I am sorry it couldn't end in the place where we all wanted to be, but please come back to BP as soon as you are ready and I will be on my feet to give you the ovation that you deserve.

We must both move on but remember that there will always be a part of you at BP. You are part of the fabric of the club now.

Don't go changing Shez and I wish you the very best wherever you are.

A big thank you to TTA (although should've come earlier but hey ho) for restoring the Faith that I had lost with the club.

Not one for sentiment cos it gets you nowhere in footy but good luck Shez. Not sure about thanks as you're only as good as your last game (season if you're a manager) and this season has been absolutely dire. It's been progressively more mind-numbing and life-sapping as the season's gone on and after sitting through so much dross the last thing I wanna say is thanks. Sorry but I feel that strongly.

I will say thanks for bringing down Andy Barlow though.

Well, I'm not surprised he's gone. He had a couple more games to rescue himself for me, but recent results have dented his past achievements. Just texted a Bristol Rovers supporting mate, whose response was "Blimey, Panic stations - he didn't deserve that" which sums it up for me.

Other supporters will very well wonder why a manager who's kept us in the top 8 all season has been sacked. It certainly would have looked more ridiculous when in the top 6; other prospective experienced managers currently in work would have had to think long and hard about coming to a club that sacks a manager who gets his team into the play offs, but out of work inexperienced desperadoes might not.

Thanks for everything you achieved John, 2 top 8 finishes and leaving us 8th is a good achievement, and something to be proud of. Keep the players at arms length at your next club. Good luck.

Come on pal, In terms of watching Latics this season hasn't been dire, dissapointing and underachieving, but dire? - It was Dire when Sheridan was playing for the most part and for that reason alone there should be thanks to he bloke for being able to watch him stand in front of the back floor spreading balls with ease . Thanks again John (for he penalty aswell of course)

Thanks for everything Shez, today is a sad day and it's a shame that what's happened had happened. Can only wish him the best of luck for the future...if he loses his stubborn streak then there's potential for a very good manager in there.

However vociferous a critic I've been to the Shez Outers over the last few weeks and months, I can't help but think that this may be the right decision. As mentuoned on another thread, yesterday was the first time I've seriously began to lose confidence in the manager...2 down and he takes off a striker, and what hurt was that it was so predictable. Now, if the seeds of doubts were sown in my mind, and I perceive myself to be a rather patient individual, then it may be time to go. Hopefully the impact of a new manager will see us into the playoffs now.

Thanks again, Shez. There have been some great times both as a player and a manager with you at the club, and it's a sad time that this chapter of Latics history has had to end like this.

I'm sorry for Shez, he truly had Latics at heart and he did a good job but just lacked that little bit extra needed to get us promoted.

All the best John and I wish you well for the future.

Goodbye, John.

Thank you for the time on the pitch, and the time you spent coaching the youngsters. Sadly, you just weren't up to management. Hopefully you'll learn your lessons and go on to be a success elsewhere.

Well done to Blitz, Corney and Gazal. Absolutely the right decision.

Club legend. Stuck around when things were hard in 2003/04, great player, helped keep us up in 99. Fantastic performances

And as a manager I'll never forget -

Leeds away (twice), Everton away, Hudds away (3-0), Forest home and away in his first season, Leicester away, winning 5 out of 5 at the start to this season.

Thanks for the memories. Deserves a standing ovation when / if he ever returns. I know I will stand and clap him.

All the best

Not saying I'd have kept him / I'm 50:50 on that. Just think its important we remember him properly.

great post..yep it was right to go..but lets not forget what he has given to this club over the years

It's with a heavy heart that I agree with the decision to let Shez go.

I was desperate for him to be the one who got us out of this godawful division but it just wasn't to be.

Many more good times than bad (some of the best since the pinch me years) and I'm sure he'll go far in the game.

All the best for the future mate, you'll always be welcome back at BP as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers for everything Shez!! After watching the game yesterday I told my dad on the way out he'd be gone by monday. I was for giving him more time but looking at it objectively getting BFJ in to sort out the discipline issues, and possibly leave a better foundation for a permanent replacement to come in in the summer, seems like the best route.

All the best Shez

I'm usually one of the last to want a manager out but like many I just felt that everything was slipping out of control come Saturday. I almost wonder if Shez would have done better if TTA hadn't backed him and let him make so many dodgy loan signings and told him to deal with what he had. He seems to struggle with the pressure when it gets tough and giving him more options has only made it worse it seems. Anyway, apologies to all who have alluded to goings on behind the scenes which I have doubted, because it seems there was a fair bit of truth.

Shez is a Latics Legend, without him coming back as a player we would be looking at Rochdale threatening to leave our division, to say nothing of his youth development and as a manager serving up the best football we've seen since, erm, the next Latics manager was here. He's taken a lot of rubbish, and no doubt deserved some stick from time to time, but I am sure he will go down in the memories as one of us.

Despite recent results and performances, today is a very sad day for me.

I know there has been a clamour over the last week or so and I had my own say last weekend, but I do have a lot of sympathy and time for the man.

I think this is the right decision for all concerned and at least, as I said last week, it gives the new man 9 games to try to turn things round and try to get us back into the playoffs.

Thanks John for all your efforts. Your time here as a player will not be forgotten especially when you came out of retirement in our hour of need despite your knee condition. Your work with the youngsters has seen several good products progress to the youth team and when you took over, you gave us our club back. It may have soured in recent months, with fans calling for you to go, but hopefully you will draw on the experience of the last 3 years and come back to the game again. I hope you do.

And Finally, I am sure when everyone has had time to reflect and a little water has passed under the bridge, you will be warmly welcomed back at BP on match days to receive the applause that your time with us richly deserves.

Once again, I thank you and good luck.

Cheers,

Harry

Cant put it any better than this. So I wont.

I feel very sad today, but felt yesterday, for the first time ever that this was going to happen and was right. Good luck John and all the best for the future. I hope there are no hard feelings and we see you at Boundary Park again soon with a new club.

Well done TTA. He had to go, our season was only going one way. Joe now has 9 games to make an impact and get us in them play-offs.

Shez has the same faults now as manager as he did 3 years ago. Great player, poor manager

You weren't saying this after Posh away were you Prendy? I vaguely remember you having a pop at me for questioning, sorry, slating our 'leader'.

Now, 22 points out of 54 later he's suddenly a "poor manager" and "had to go".

I was 'Shez in' all the way, for the simple fact that in the 19 of the 22 years of my life that I've been dragged along/gone willingly to watch the Latics with my Dad, certain individuals have made a greater impression on me than others. I'm sure that this is the same for everyone, however long or short you've followed the Blues or any other team. For me though, Shez was the best of the lot. The first Latics player, who made me, as a teenager, really appreciate that football could be something to enjoy, something beautiful, whether the team was playing well or getting hammered. He made watching the really bad Latics teams we've had in this division bearable and is probably the only reason other than my Dad for me sticking with the club when I could have found other interests.

I fully understand that the board have to make decisions based on their own analysis and instinct. The owners have the best interests of the club at heart and I totally respect their decision.

But it's been tough reading some of the abuse thrown a the guy on this masseage board by some, when he's done so much for the club in the past decade. Making the physical sacrifices he made when coming out of retirement against medical advice to save the club on the field in 2003 when so many others were doing all they could to save it off the field is something that should never be forgotten. 16th August 2003 at Hillsbrough will be a day I'll never forget, seeing him score from the spot in front of the Kop at my favourite away ground in the country, and then being applauded from all sides at the end was just the sort of adulation a player of his calibre deserved.

I can say that from now on the first result I'll look for will always be the club that Shez is involved at. I wish him all the best and hope he turns into the manager that we all know he can be. There's a club out there whose fans are going to be very lucky to have him some time soon, I'm sure.

Currently in semi-exile, next week is due to be my first game since Hartlepool at home in January. Even after yesterday and recent events/results, I really can't wait to see the lads and hopefully a good win, but the place won't be the same with Shez on the pitch or on the touchline.

It's a real shame it had to come to an end, but Shez is my favourite player of all time. From older people I know, the players you watch in your formative years are the ones that you admire forever, and I'm sure that will be the case for me with Shez.

All the best for the future Shez, if you or anyone you know reads this.

I was going to write a post, but this is word for word (almost) what I would have said...so instead of writing a full post, I will just say that I agree with everything lalalajpkalala has just said.

Thank you for everything. And good luck with whatever you do next.

After yesterdays performance this had to be done today or we may as well not bother the remianing 9 games. Shez not only lost the players yesterday ... but more importantly the Oldham fans.

Very sad to see Shez go, hope he gets another chance and goes onward and upward. He obviously has a lot to learn and has done so the hard way. Yesterday unfortunately at half time despite being 2-2 you could see we would lose and 10 minutes into the second half I was sure we would we would get 5/6 put past us, you could just feel that we were running on empty.

Joe has a big challenge, lets just not assume that he can wave a magic wand, but at least he will get everyone's unequivocal support

Because seeing us once this season (?) he should know eh?

Because, like a lot of other teams fans, they'd love to have had the 3 seasons we've had? Because lots of teams have not had 3 consecutive top 8 places? Because they've seen goals from games where we have dominated teams and actually played with a real team spirit? And btw, he's seen us twice live and twice on TV this season.

Perhaps because they have looked at what we have achieved rather than when we have failed?

Anyway, now you can play the "I said it first" game. Well done.
