Yes, the performance was abysmal. Actually, it wasn't even that good. With one or two exceptions, they were useless, clueless, spineless and hopeless. But Christ on a bicycle, the tactics were unbelievable, so DP has to shoulder some blame as well. After 25 minutes, he realises that 4-5-1 ain't working, so what does the dumpling do? Goes 4-4-2; that's fine but, takes off :censored: who was doing OK, leaves Goodwin on, who was crap, to bring Taylor on. Switches Whits from left to right wing (Whits a winger?) to accommodate Tayls. Leaves Goodwin at the front of what at times looked like a sort of diamond-ish formation with Stephens, one of the best creative midfielders in front of the back four.

 

He eventually works out that we're losing and Goodwin's having a dog of a match so, to create a bit more attack minded play, he brings on Worthington, another defensive midfielder, in his place. And he was garbage again as well. Then in a final master stroke, off comes Lee, who'd done not too much wrong, on comes Millar and Whits goes to right back! By this time, words had failed most of us - apart from those singing the Penney out chants.

 

Granted he lost Smalley to illness and Rubes to injury before the game but, for the love of God, when is he going to wake up to the fact that he hasn't a clue about how to send out an attack minded team - the very occasional good display apart. And where was Eaves? Was DP in a strop 'cos he hasn't signed his contract yet and thought "I'll teach yer, yer likkle bugger. We'll have a nice day out in Yeovil and you can stay at home. There, that's told yer"

 

I'm now actually pleased that I can't get up there next week. I just can't be arsed spending 12 hours of my day to watch another 90 minutes of the crap that is being served up and should be prosecuted under the Trades Description Act if it is described as a football match. As I've said in other threads, this is my 60th year supporting Latics and I have never, ever been so downhearted, disillusioned and now even disinterested.

 

If this tactically inept dipstick is still in charge next season, I can only see League 2 looming. I'm so pissed off, I can't be bothered to take part in this any more, so I'm going to watch the Football League show to see if I've dreamed it all

Couldnt have put in better myself. Penney doesnt have a clue. The 'run'we have had recently has masked what a appaling season this has been......jeez when we drew with Southend i was relieved..........oh big wow we managed to survive in League One.,.....only cos the rest were just as :censored:e as us.......in fact its hard to believe we have scored as many goals have we have because we my god we havent tried to score goals in any way shape or form. If that disgrace of a manager is there next season then half, in fact no bugger will be there next season to witness it. A budget cut from this team? Great post matey, couldnt have said it better myself. I decided to slee on it before I posted, as I was so bemused and angry last night. I totally understand all those saying its meaningless, it was, however that was embarrassing. Feel so sorry for those who had to go all the way back to Oldham.

 

So - before the game - we have DP saying we are going to go all out to win the match out of 'respect' for the other teams in the league. Well what the was that? Last away game of the season, why dont you cut loose, play some kids - get shut of the awful loanees, and actually try to entertain? And we get that bollocks.

 

Some of the things highlighed above were beyond belief. Not a single chance in the entire game... Abbott looking like a lame carthorse (why the was he playing), the substitutions.... THE ing SUBSTITUTIONS! WHAT THE were they? You are 1-0 down, playing awfully, fair enough, he does enough to spot the worst player on the park by a distance - and then he replaces him with another defensive midfielder!!! And then seeing Kirk Millar and Danny Whit both playing at right back (niether having a clue what was going on - blatantly) well brilliant DP, ing brilliant.

 

I'm just going to single out Goodwin quickly. One of the worst performances I have ever seen from one of our players. he made Kalala looke like Messi. Absolutely awful - why was he playing?

 

Right. I know it was meaningless, I know they were up for it, but that was so pathetic it was untrue. It summed up everything that is wrong in the mind of that yorkshire prat in one game. I'm really angry. That ing idiot is destroying our club. I cant imagine any other manager on the planet that would have gone out in those circumstances and decided to defend first with pointless half-fit loanees in the team. I'm still really angry. Thank god i'm going to be absolutely hammered before the game kicks off next week.

 

Get that tosser out of our club. I dont care how, or who relaces him, I genuinely dont. Yesterday sapped the last of my strength.

Absolutely spot on.

 

Never seen a performance like it. Playing an unfit loanee was shocking. As much as Im not a fan of Worthington he is our player and he's fit so play him instead.

 

Why he took :censored: off I don't know (his reaction to the substitution pretty much says he won't be playing on sat against Charlton or I would be suprised if he was) Goodwin was so far off the pace it was unreal. Whitts at right back? Their winger must of thought his wish had come true when that happened. Abbott was again knackered after 25 mins not sure if he was fit after last week but Brooke should of been given the start if he wasn't.

 

They wern't very good but again we have been soundly beaten by a team who realised we were there for the taking something that we have failed to do all season. I'v not been fooled over the recent results and have maintained that Penney should still go despite his 'achievment' of keeping us up in the worst standard league 1 we have seen in a long while.

 

Oh and it wasn't a meaningless game as there is no such thing in professional football there was enough fans who could be bothered making the long trip down so the players and manager should be bothered about it aswell.

 

I can't wait till saturday is over as we're gonna get d***ed by Charlton to end a pathetic season.

i'am sorry but that is a lame excuse,the last time i looked the team coach looked pretty top of the range not a barlows excuse for a coach.So they had to get up early....get a grip,i'am working all bank holiday to pay for a season ticket to watch that shower next season

You were there last weds, that team had played 65 games that season and had to play 5 games in 9 days at the end as the FA wouldn't give them an extension.

 

Its 90 mins, even I could manage to have a stab on a wing for 90mins, I used to play - hated running but hell I knew where the goal was and how to get the ball in the box.

 

I would rather we voided games that disgrace the shirt. Have we any diginity left?

Yesterday was truely dire. My opinion of Penney changes from one week to the next - while I don't think we should be looking to change managers on a yearly basis, performances like yesterday just show how bad Penney can be. Admittedly results have improved recently, but I don't really think performances have that much. I geniuenly don't know what would be the best thing to do with regards to Penney.

 

I think we actually have a half-decent squad, but they're just not being played with the right tactics. I thought Whits played OK yesterday - reckon he should be given another year's contract.
