JoeP Posted July 13, 2010 Share Posted July 13, 2010 To be fair to the club, on this occasion there were Feeney rumours in the Chron yesterday, followed by Feeney giving a statement to the BBC saying we were the club he wanted to play for as PD & GT had sold the club to him, then he's at the match last night with his family. If the club hadn't have said anything about it they would have been criticised for 'not just telling people' when it is obvious to anyone with even half an eye that he's almost nailed on a Latics player. I don't think they would have been critisised for not telling people. How can the club be critisised for not wanting to tell anyone until it's set in stone? That said, you're right, this is our fans I'm sure some of them would have moaned about something. Yes, those factors you mentioned did point to him being signed. But surely they should have told Feeney to not speak to the press until the contract was signed, as their fingers had been burnt before. Instead we've got loads of "set to sign" articles floating around (including on the clubs own website!) which only alert other clubs to the fact that it hasn't actually happened. Not seen the prison football records, but I'd guess a damn sight more than that. I'd expect Feeney to score around ten in a season for us (barring injury). Different levels of commitment. The only way Feeney will end up as unproductive as Parker would be if he got a career ending injury after 3 seconds of his debut. With our resources we can't afford a reliable striker like Hughes. Therefore we have to sign someone like Feeney and hope he clicks with team and the way we play. How many strikers out their are there, who have been prolific with one club, and as soon as they move on (for a usually big fee), that's the end of them like Parker?
