OldhamSheridan
Why change the habit of a life time Can't agree that these are a good thing, as they sound horrible on the telly. However, like the drum, if we are told in advance before the season starts where they are going to be we can get like minded people in the same stand. I and anyone else, can situate themselves in another stand. Banning them outright seems, unsurprisingly, like a marketing opportunity lost. Matt
lets ban farting as well As an individual who has spent the best part of the last 13 years or so sat next to Randy Savage at Latics, I for one would welcome such a policy change... Bristolatic
Thank God. I just don't see how they can create a football related atmosphere. Singing, chanting, having a whimsical, lyrical pop at the oppo fans is what makes it. The nearest I came to a vuvuzela was when two yoofs were blowing them whilst walking down the street when I was waiting for my bus home. If that's what two sound like, I sure as hell don't want to be anywhere near a few hundred / thousand of the buggers. The temptation to insert each end in seperate orifices so they could suck and blow at the same time was very tempting. Cue comments such as "That's the trouble with English fans", "It beats tuneless singing any day" etc, etc. That's the beauty of message boards, you can state your own opinions knowing that, on certain issues, there is no right or wrong. Just opinions.

LaticMark
If i was sat in the stands at latics and someone blew one of those trumpets down my ear, i think it would become inserted into the first available orifice. Thick end first!!
razza699
I have to agree with oafc0000 I was lucky enough to be at 11 WC games this year and they are fine when you are at the game , they just sound :censored: on TV (and lets be honest we are not going to be on TV in a hurry), they are not just constantly blown in some sections, the more larger lungs Africans can start chants and songs with them
Macca
Here's a better idea than vuvus - people actually going to watch Latics and showing support. It wasn't too long ago we did that.
rudemedic
Comparing what I was told would happen before I went against the realities of being there, I found a very different country... and that included a visit to the townships... I am telling you like it was... You went to the townships- did you have an escort? If not then more fool you. I too have been to Cape Town, but I wasn't there when the world cup was on so the Saffers weren't on their best behaviour. On my first morning I got told don't go around this area or that area when its dark or quiet as you are quite likely to get mugged, low and behold two people I was friends with ventured into that area by a fraction and got mugged in broad daylight. Keep a bit of small change in a different pocket to your wallet so if you do get mugged you can give them just that. Cape Town is not the worst city I've been in (I've been to Blantyre, Malawi and Detroit) but its not that pleasant, although I never saw someone defectaing in public in either of those two cities. Like most cities in the world it has its bad spots and good spots but unlike a lot of other cities normal peoples homes aren't Fort Knox like in their security. As for the original topic, there was a Vuvuzela near me at the Cricket and whilst it was annoying it wasn't as annoying as the drum (which I have sat very near too because the RRE was away only) and it didn't sound much like it did on Telly. Have the club banned the drum- NO, its hypocracy, either they both should be allowed or they should both be banned. But if the drum turns up near me again I have a solution, its called the Vuvuzela app- are they going to ban that too?

Washington DC, five blocks from the Monument etc. is one of the most dangerous areas in the US. I've been to downtown LA and saw a guy blatantly walking along with a gun in his pants. I've lived in Rusholme and walked home through Hume and Moss Side. The world is full of rough places, it's all about smarts and personal safety. You can get mugged anywhere. I think I know where you mean in Washington (I've been there too) and you are probably right (I don't think I ever went far enough that way). My point is zeros is saying SA (well actually Cape Town) is nothing like as bad as people make out, but I'm saying its still very dodgy but the same could be said of almost every city in the world if you end up in the wrong place, including Manchester, London and Durham
RobOAFC
Club could have waited a bit longer before deciding to ban it.. like allowing them for the friendlies and first few home games off the season to see how they can add to atmosphere or any negative impacts they could have.. There is a growing movement in the Unites States for OC (Open Carry) of firearms, as an exercise of Constitutional rights. My understanding is that the law accepts this in the state of California. However, if it was loaded, that may be a totaly different story!

Agree, I've had somebody point a gun at my head through the headrest of a taxi cab seat, whilst I was sat in the front as a passenger - near Hamer in Rochdale. A long time ago, I may add... Even travelling in this country, me and Sav said once you can travel the length and breadth of the isles, yet the hairiest most dodgy part of any journey away from home is through Manchester between Picc and Victoria.
