bowl
but I haven't just lost interest in Latics... I have lost interest in going to games in general. I won tickets to Wigan vs Fullham the other day and passed them on. I think having a kiddy has cemented me not wanting to go... I don't think I am the typical stay away that is all I am saying... I am surprised the good results haven't seen the attendances go up to the 5,000 mark... Edited February 1, 2011 by bowl
razza699
That's about six years away... Yeah maybe then... How about coming and making sure we still have a club in 6 years time then

oafcprozac
The crowds still fluctuated, when there's differences of 500+ that is a fluctuation! This season is far steadier if you take the Dale and Hudds games out of the equation and that is far more worrying the fact we seem to be hovering around the 3,600 - 4,000 mark in '06-'07 the crowds did fluctuate but mainly between 6-7,000 Edited February 1, 2011 by oafcprozac
LaticsLee
As I say it takes the Oldham public time to twig, I reckon we'll see a steady improvement from this month IF results keep positive. I think the 6-0 hurt us off the field more than it as it gave the sneering Oldham public the chance to say 'typical Latics, I told yer so...' or " oh typical oldham f**king up at the end part of the season "

oafc0000
ok Why face palm... Swimming and having funny with my kid or going to the football on my own and watching football... I really don't get why it winds you up so much! When she grows up, if she likes football I will bring her... Its time for others to step up to the plate for a while! I went every week for 21 years or something... Edited February 1, 2011 by oafc0000
Lookers_Carl
I know it has been said many times, but I think the past two seasons, the sheer amount of southern teams has contributed to the drop in attendances. There is nowhere near as much interest in Oldham vs Dagenam, or Oldham vs Bristol Rovers, as there is in Oldham vs Middlesbrough, or Oldham vs Bury. If we go up, then away followings that take up all of the RRE or the large bit of the RRE will be a regular occurance, as will be over 5000 home fans, hence I think we would be looking at an 8000 average at least. If we are still in this division next season, with a bit of luck we will lose the four teams in the bottom four at the moment, and we will lose brighton, saints and charlton and bournemouth going the other way. And with a bit more luck, three of the four teams coming up will be northern (including Bury), and we will see three northern clubs come down from the championship, ideally Preston, Boro and Sheff U, all of whom would have at least the big bit of the RRE. Either way, I think we will see a marked improvement in attendances next season.

outoftheblue
Jesus. It's simple. The People of Oldham will turn up to watch a successful team - that's it. It's been that way for decades. Promotion this year would see a substantial increase in home suport (And a very recognisable upturn in revenue from away support). It's not the stadium - They'd sit on milk crates at Snipe Clough if the fixture was attractive enough. The fact is, it's going to take a lot more than us diehards to convince anyone that the football has changed since the :censored:e we were served up under Penney, and on the occasions that we try to entice them back with reduced admission etc, the fixture is usually boring or our performance is very average (Grimsby performance excepted of course). When Big Joe came back for the last 8(?) games the attendance increased, but by that time the rot had set so far in that the performances were hardly likely to spur people into buying a ST for the following season. Like it or not, promotion is the only way to see attendances improve. Let's hope we manage it before it's to late to save us.

I think the most depressing aspect is the dominance of the South West teams as all of those places are a bugger to get to! Very interesting Prozac. Currently: Clearly 5 less South/Soth East teams, with very little away support. Only 2 or 3 biggish crowds too. For arguments sake Dale, Weds, Hudds, yet only Blackpool would you consider a local draw from 06/07. Crewe and Vale are practically Midlands, and not a big draw. But the big draw games of 06/07 would be Blackpool, Hudds, Forest which is not great improvement on this year. What about the days the games are paled, we don't seem to get the big home games on a Saturday any more, but is that true? We have a squad that means we can put out an attacking team with (I reckon) 8 of the starting eleven who can and have scored goals (Lee, Evina, Taylor, Stephens, Furman, White, Tounkara & Reid) plus Hazel and Trotman to cause problems at set pieces. What needs to happen is that the team delivers - scoring goals and winning games - then we will see the crowds come back. Play Off final versus Huddersfield at OT - then after victory Paul Scholes announces that he has signed to play for us in the Championship - attendances rise and the good times roll. I'll get me coat
