Lee Croft interview in the programme

Recommended Posts

When I saw "Interesting views from Lee Croft in today's programme", I just assumed he'd given his thoughts on the incident at Sheff Utd. Was a bit worried he might have said something inflammatory. But no, I underestimated him....

Do you have a hero in your life, sporting or otherwise?

Spiderman....because Batman and the others are not real but Spiderman tries to help everyone and keeps us all from danger.

Did you know you can buy absolutely anything from Jose Baxter? Just tell him what you require and Jose appears with it the next day. He appeared the other day with a fully house trained pet monkey and wanted £50 for it!

Just recently I have been listening to Stravinsky's Firebird Suite performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra.

Honestly, I've not made any of them up.

Cult hero in the making!

Hopefully Crofty will be able to buy it through Playershare...

The guy is mental (in the good way, not the killing women to make a female skin dress way) I'd say the most enjoyable interview in the programme for an age. You can see why he is popular among other pros and staff, seems a genuine likeable lad and the comparison between him (or his yet to be proven, highly doubted and contested alleged insult) with the idiot hooligan in the Leeds match the Football League Show snuck in was unfair.

I heard he threatened to kill that ballboy and make a dress out of his skin.

I don't know if it's true but I heard that.

He used to be regularly featured on Soccer AM... all started when one of his team mates told a story on how he was in Wigan and spotted a monkey in a tree at the side of the road (or something random like that anyway)

Do you play other sports and if so is there one that you excel at?

I am brilliant at pool. I have a pool table at home on which I am currently undefeated. Last week I smashed Jose Baxter and Jonathan Grounds out of sight, in fact Groundsey might as well of not bothered turning up!

If you were not a footballer what path do you think your career would have taken?

Believe it or not I once considered becoming a marine biologist. After leaving school and going into football I studied at home through the Open University programme. But I never finished the course. I specialised in coral reef bleaching and just what causes the whitening of reefs...it is global climate change possibly going to cause the destruction of coral reefs worldwide?

What has been your career highlight?

I think I would have to plump for my Premier League debut for Manchester City against Aston Villa and that would be closely run by my first Premier league goal against Fulham.

If you could invite three people to dinner, alive or dead, who would they be?

Spiderman, Matt Derbyshire and Ged Coyne. (Ged Coyne is a member of Latics' voluntary groundstaff and a complete Man City nutcase!)

If your house was on fire, what would be the first thing you would save from the flames?

My back scratcher! Julie, one of the laundry ladies at Boundary Park brought it back for me from her holidays. I treasure it and use it every day.

What is the best and worst holiday you have ever been on?

Las Vegas is without doubt the best holiday I have ever been on. I have been several time with my friends from my hometown of Wigan and we try to go once a year.

The worst holiday I went on was not really a holiday; it was a trip to Russia with England under 21s. I hated it, it was dark, cold, wet and they did not speak English either!

Christmas is coming soon, what if anything would you like to receive?

I am not a big Christmas person; I buy and receive things all year round. For instance did you know you can buy absolutely anything from Jose Baxter? Just tell him what you require and Jose appears with it the next day. He appeared the other day with a fully house trained pet monkey and wanted £50 for it!

Which TV programmes do you make a point of never missing?

I have my digibox scheduled to record every edition of Match of the Day, The Football League show and I never ever miss an episode of Peppa Pig.

What was the last book you read?

Of Mice and Men, it is a novel written by Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck. Published in 1937, it tells the tragic tale of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in search of new job opportunities during the Great Depression in California, USA. It was an inspiring read.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to a varied amount of music and do not like being labelled with one style. Just recently I have been listening to Stravinky's Firebird Suite performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra; I also enjoy R&B and dance music especially the band Rapture who are a German based outfit who had a major hit recently on the Ministry of Sound label.

What do you do to relax after a Saturday game?

Saturday night is one of the few nights which you are allowed to wind down and relax. Being young I like to have a night out in town (Manchester). After the win against Preston the lads all went out together for a drink and something to eat. Unfortunately Connor Brown kept getting refused entry at every place we visited, "You can't come in here dressed like that" or "Do you have an ID card on you sunshine" was all we ever heard. In the end I think he sloped off to an ice cream parlour on Canal Street.

Finally...tell me a secret?

I am a very good magician, me and Jose Baxter have an array of magic tricks that we bring with us to the club occasionally to entertain the lads.
