RoytonLatics
@MENOAFC: Reasonably-sized #oafc exclusive (not a new player) should go up on website shortly. Any ideas?

rudemedic
It's to do with West Ham selling Montano, despite alleged knowledge of arrest for serious offence http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/oldham-athletic-report-west-ham-6650913 Edited January 30, 2014 by rudemedic
opinions4u
Would West Ham have known? Edited January 30, 2014 by opinions4u
Stevie_J
This could get interesting. I don't know that West Ham would have had an obligation to say anything. Of course, if they were asked and didn't disclose, that's very different.
RoytonLatics
Interesting to hear about the transfer embargo. But agree, this could get messy.
slystallone
When did we have a transfer embargo in place?
Midsblue
Take them to the cleaners!!! I'm not sure compensation in the form of rampant rabbits and butt plugs would be accepted...cold hard cash!!!!
RoytonLatics
When did we have a transfer embargo in place? Whenever we refused to pay the last instalment to West Ham, the article doesn't specify. Reading between the lines, it didn't last long tho. JohnnyPimp
When did we have a transfer embargo in place? Looks like it was in place for a short time following Montano's arrest. Not that much transfer activity could happen around then.
petelatics
I suspect Latics found out when Montano's alleged other transgression hit the papers recently.

Does it not suggest we've had the embargo on this month until we reported West Ham?
iamjonesyyoafc
The article seems to suggest that we have had a transfer embargo on us for almost the whole of January.
OAFC_Ryan
Why would this be kept from the fans?
BJBlue
The article seems to suggest that we have had a transfer embargo on us for almost the whole of January. Does it?? As far as i can see it wasn't in place very long at all.
jburbri
It was probably there for a couple of days and it also says latics are looking to bring in two players.
SavageTheBeast
The embargo was only a short time. It might not have even been in the transfer window and in fact it might have happened In December Edited January 30, 2014 by SavageTheBeast
oldhamoafc
Have we done this to lift the transfer embargo and a way around that? Or have we done this to try and get some money? Dunno why I just have a feeling we are really struggling financially at the minute.. Could be wrong! Just seems unnecessary to get involved in all this. Dunno why I just have a feeling we are really struggling financially at the minute.. Could be wrong! Just seems unnecessary to get involved in all this. I don't think we are doing this to get money, more that we think we can save money by not having to pay West Ham the extra bit of cash we were scheduled to pay them for Montano. Especially as he played until November, 14 months after we signed him. The fact that doing so prevents us from being in transfer embargo is a bonus. Stagger Lee
(quote) M.E.N. Sport understands League One Latics paid around £50,000 for the Columbian Really? I seem to remember it was disclosed as a nominal fee - £50,000 is not exactly nominal fee for Oldham. More credit for SC in doing the right thing because he would have hurt chucking all that money away. I hope Montano never plays professionally again the grubby get. jimsleftfoot
Given there is a fee involved, any decent contract should oblige the seller to disclose such information. Also, it seems that Montano didn't disclose this to OAFC when he signed, another reason why he was sacked no doubt. If West Ham didn't know though, they can't disclose it. Hands on
I suspect Montano had a duty to disclose to West Ham and if he didn't there is a possibility of claiming against him. If he claims against us we would have to go through the right steps to ensure a counter claim against him. I have no doubt that this is one area where when the full facts are known, if ever, we will all applaud the action taken by club and SC.
