Fyldelatic
Shame really. I thought he could be a good target man to play alongside tricky player like Philliskirk, but didn't turn out to be.
HarryBosch
"I really enjoyed working with Jon and would not rule out doing so again in the future." I'd be happy with him permanent for next season. We'd need a proper goalscorer alongside him though as he's never been prolific.
LaticsPete
We'd need a proper goalscorer alongside him though as he's never been prolific. A couple of wingers supplying crosses would help....
the_mighty_bosh
I think it's the right decision as he didn't really make enough of an impact, but regardless of calibre we can't go and replace him with someone who is lacking fitness.
the_mighty_bosh
I suppose the next question is whether we actually need a replacement? Is Philly, Charlie Mac, JCH and Turner enough to get us through the season?
WIZZO83
would like to see JCH with Turner. Height and Pace, give them a run
HarryBosch
would like to see JCH with Turner. Height and Pace, give them a run I'd like to see Turner. Until then we can't possibly say give him a run.
Lee Sinnott
We'll stick him in the file alongside Brett Ormerod, Steve Kabba, Dean Windass and Ben Burgess...
lookersstandandy
would like to see JCH with Turner. Height and Pace, give them a run JCH needs to learn how to head the ball first. His hold up play is almost non existent. This appears to be what is getting on LJ's nerves. I get the impression JCH wants to run at or get behind defenders only. He's gonna need to work out that a little more is required of him if he wants to be guaranteed a place amongst the starting 11 every week. youngen
His inability to read a game is also getting tedious. He struggles to see any sort of flick on until its gone 5 yards away from him.
OAFC_Ryan
jonathan stead @jonstead9 2 mins Big thanks to everyone at @OfficialOAFC really enjoyed the month and wish the gaffa and lads every success for the rest of the season ??
oafc1955
Another one for the strikers graveyard..... We could have Andy Carroll or Van Persie up front and it would still make no difference. We need a Wellens or a Sheridan running the midfield and/or wingers who can cross the ball and until we find one we will continue to draw blanks. Oh for an Adams or a Holden....or both!!!!!! Come to think of it why not try 4 3 3 or 3 5 2 with wingbacks.......we have been obsessed with wingers and have had a bucketfull over the last few seasons and they've made no difference whatsoever! jw_oldh857
that's a bit unfair 1955 stead joins a long list of ,coming to get fitness up which sadly is not what we need at the mo but a match fit stead coming in would be a totally different player
Break The Silence
a match fit stead coming in would be a totally different player I'm not convinced. Don't want to be overly critical, he's a nice guy by all accounts, but he's very one paced and can trap a ball further than I can kick it. No better than what we already have in my opinion. What the heavy metal fan says /\ Massively disappointed with him & his 5 game spell. I don't think i'd want him back again, absolutely no better than the strikers we already had; and thats quite damming to stead in itself... HarryBosch
He was crap but if we can sign him permanent fir next season he'd be much better than what we've got fully fit & sharp. He was never prolific at Bristol City and they love him.
Lags
It's safe to say the month's loan didn't really work out for Latics. Stead is not a target man, he plays off the target to get the most out of him. That said, is he past his best?
lancy lad
I think he is past his best... I was really pleased when I heard we had signed him. He was rubbish for the few games we had him and for everyone moaning that he would have needed good crosses, he got an absolute belter against MK and headed it very tamely back to their keeper. Not as good as what we have IMO.
HarryBosch
Surely we've learnt by now that we can't judge players on a few weeks on loan?
youngen
Yes we can, we are Latics fans. If they havent proven their worth in 3 and a half games, they are completely :censored:e.

HarryBosch
This reminds me - the bloke behind me at the MK Dons match proclaimed after we went 1-0 down (after 4 minutes) "It's Tommy :censored:e's fault this, I'm telling you. Tommy :censored:e." 1 game, 4 minutes and it's all our new assistant manager's fault. Tommy ":censored:e".
ShireBlue
LJ doesn't rule out working with Stead in future, according to the Chron. If Johnson rates him and he's cheap, I'd fully expect him to return.
slystallone
...he won't be "cheap" i wouldn't have thought? Edited March 4, 2014 by slystallone
Stagger Lee
...he won't be "cheap" i wouldn't have thought? After failing to keep his first team spot at the udders and then failing at latics his bargaining value would be pretty low when it comes to future contracts surely?
