Blue_Guru Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Common knowledge im sure but worth concluding and probably reassuring to some... A United friend of mine was at a 'United we stand fanzine' do last night and dean Holden was there...a brief chat where he was asked if he had a chance of the manager role long term and Deanos reply was 'nah iv not a chance'.
opinions4u Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 In which case I think we need to appoint a manager with experience this week. Our play-off campaign looks a lot closer to a relegation campaign now that the enthusiasm Judas Johnson brought to the club has been well and truly sucked out of it.
Tommy_Fent Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 He needs a few years working underneath a management team before he can take the reigns in my opinion
Markspark92 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Felt for him yesterday he looked a beaten man on his LP post match interview but what can he do ? The players were awful yesterday, we need someone in sooner rather then later but I don't think the board will rush into this I think they will persist with deano till the end of the season. We need to make the correct appointment I hope corney pushes the boat out a little to get an Adkins or a billy Davies someone with a decent record of getting teams up, Danny Wilson no thank you sacked from his last two for struggling with teams with bigger budgets then ours, (Barnsley, Sheff U) Not to sure on Doiwe either not been in management for a few years now and Scholes could either go two ways brilliant or terrible and I'm sure scholes won't be sticking around I'f the going got tough.
NewBlue Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 At this stage post-LJ it feels like we're still mourning him, or at least the players are. Very much so in stand still and the feeling around the club is one of doom and gloom. Until we appoint somebody, and on the back of 3 straight defeats we will simply continue to lose in a league of fine margins. We need somebody new with a bit of enthusiasm...and fast.
jsslatic Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Perhaps we should pioneer rolling managers (not Steve Evans). Get Gary Johnson on for the Yeovil game, Danny Wilson for Barnsley the week after, Dario Gradi for Crewe the week after. I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Like they did with Have I Got News For You!
opinions4u Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Prefer the X factor model. We have 12 managers and boot them off one by one by SMS voting ;-) will pay for a new pie warmer at least ;-) They could put the number up on the scoreboard ... Ah ...
the_mighty_bosh Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 I think we should be looking to appoint a new manager within the next fortnight, but I doubt we will in the next week. So we simply need to give Deano our full backing for the next 2 games. Let's face it, he'll need it!

rvlatic Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 They could put the number up on the scoreboard ... Ah ...Just write it on the 'strike it lucky' boards and send the two lads round - proper old school!
oafc1955 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 I reckon there'll be someone in for next Saturday, if not Tuesday Don't think there's a cat in hell's chance of it happening that quick.
the_mighty_bosh Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Don't think there's a cat in hell's chance of it happening that quick. Unless it's Scholes (where the benefits to us are clear) I wouldn't really want us to be making a decision that quickly. Especially if the contract for the new man is beyond the end of the season. Don't get me wrong we need a new boss in place well before the end of the season, but getting this managerial appointment wrong could put us in real trouble within the next 12 months.
Clifford Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Dont pass on 2nd hand info without full story. Dean had just been beaten 4-0, it was his prediction rather than remit. If he'd won 4-0 his answer would have been different. He was hoping it'd lead to perm chance but 4-0 is a bit steep. Ask the person who text you.
frizzell54 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 I wish people would stop going on about Scholes; it's not going to happen. Dean is a nice lad, quiet - always has been and not one to kick a**e. So we probably do need a new man, but for now give Dean the support. By the way FFP IMO is not about fair play it is about protecting clubs from themselves. Fair Play would see all revenues taken by the league for them to re-allocate equally amongst all clubs in in the division. All clubs would then be required to work within the same budget. Thought the latter would be appropriate for a new thread, but 'Clifford' may not approve!
BP1960 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 A win on Tuesday and everyone will want Deano permenantly.
beag_teeets Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 We never win at Port Vale. Tuesday will be another defeat by more than 2 goals.

I'm guessing this is for me...can you repeat again in English? That you Dean? Joined OWTB a week after you came back to OAFC as a coach ;-) Edited March 1, 2015 by Blue_Guru
IceStationLatic Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 I would just like to see Dean where a nice suit. Look the part, players will respect you as the part - not as the mate coach from training. Maybe they'll bother to mark their men at crosses if they're being watched by someone who looks, as well as talks, like they really mean business
BP1960 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Can you honestly see us winning? Sometimes away from home is a refuge for players, could possibly sneak it.
frizzell54 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Not at Port vale we do 'nowt' there, not even under Royle.

josh_latics Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 FFS - a caretaker manager wearing a tracksuit is hardly FleeceGate part 2... Yup. Pulis, Bruce, Pochettino all wear tracksuits, probably loads of others too. Doesn't mean anything.
IceStationLatic Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I'm not saying it will get us into the play-offs!! Just in my opinion it reinforces the image of being in charge, and a professional example to players. I'm not having a dig at Dean, it's a dig, if anything, at the players and their attitudes! Perhaps some simple clothing-induced psychology might help. No use some of players rumoured to have been overjoyed when LJ left, 'having fun' in training and then not coming to the party on match day.
