Postman Matt Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Had it on very good authority the club will not be exercising the option to extend the contract on Jonathan Forte...... Also Big George will not be retained also..... I think the majority of fans will be suprised at the retained list... Lets just say this the new manager is making his mark early..... Quote
WIZZO83 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 to be honest I agree with that decision. Big wages and misses a lot of games. For a small squad you cant carry him Quote
HarryBosch Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 to be honest I agree with that decision. Big wages and misses a lot of games. For a small squad you cant carry him 14 goals with half a season out injured would do us very nicely again Quote
oafc1955 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Well lets hope Kelly can conjure up a goal scorer from somewhere because without Forte's early season goal feast we would be in Div 2 now!! Quote
NIKI1234 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I agree with this. two of our highest earners that history proves are pretty much gaurentered to spend large chunks of the season out. Save the wages and spend elsewhere. Just hope Kelly can entice and decent striker Quote

I've heard the same about Elokobi. Quote
LaticsLen Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I might be wrong but didnt Forte sign an extension at the same time Winchester signed his? 1 year automatic if he played so many games. Quote
oafc_lover Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I've heard the same about Elokobi. Big George...? Quote
WIZZO83 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Goal scoring I totally agree but if he is on £2k a week, cant play 2 games in a week and when his knee flairs up he is out for a month its not sustainable. Also bad for squad moral, one of the highest earners not playing every game/ 2 games a week Quote
josh_latics Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 It makes complete sense to get rid of George. He had two, separate lengthy spells out last year, we can't afford that. He's a hoofer, and no better a defender than Kusunga, and probably on a decent wage. I'd be tempted to keep Forte, unless we feel his knee has deteriorated to the point where he's not worth the risk. Kelly wanted pacey wingers, and they don't come much quicker than Forte, plus his goals, it'd take a real coup to improve on him. Quote
WIZZO83 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 He played enough games to qualify for an extension but the club still has the right to say no. (in the clubs favour) Quote
Postman Matt Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 I might be wrong but didnt Forte sign an extension at the same time Winchester signed his? 1 year automatic if he played so many games. That was James Wilson who had that in his contract after 30 league games played. Quote
LaticsLen Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 The board must of held talks with him then because I'm sure when Corney and Gee where on GMR the other month they said they'd took the option up on Forte then. Quote
deyres42 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Didn't Corney say he will definately be here next season? "Pace is the key" says Kelly Quote
josh_latics Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Michael @miguelinho2910 May 5Oldham, England Corney "Forte will be here next season". Jones "I love it here, need to stay in NW". Alan Irvine wanted 3m budget. Dowie wanted 2.5m #oafc https://twitter.com/miguelinho2910/status/595384310074576898 From the awards night. Quote
Postman Matt Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Is that the same Simon Corney that said we had the best set applicants ever then appointed the under 9s coach The same Corney who tended his resignation to the Oldham Chron to quickly refute it I would check the grass outside is green even if he told me so.... deyres42 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 We've been hurt by sources before. "It's Dowie" "It's Holden" "It's Taiwo" Quote
Postman Matt Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 Ironically Darren Kelly lives near Tom Taiwo Maybe my first source is ready to mature..... Quote
Clifford Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) As I've said on here before it was felt he'd have to look at retirement at the end of this season. Not worth the risk but i understood a pay as play offer was going to him. Perhaps he said no. Edited May 8, 2015 by Clifford Quote
singe Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 We're gonna miss his goals. We did already. He only scored twice since the end of November. Quote

It depends on how seriously he is injured but in my opinion it will be a big loss to let Forte go. I hope that your 'authority' is reliable as if not I will be the first to give you grief if this turns out to be a false rumour! Quote
leeslover Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Big George sounded unusually downbeat when I asked if he was staying, I think that's a no. Forte at his is Div 3 star team material, I don't know if we just happened to see the best of him for a few months Quote
NewBlue Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I said at the start of the season Forte has only ever been good in short burst during his career and to sustain it over a full season would go against the pattern. It turned out to be right. Despite that , those 16 goals were massive for us, and I think it's a mistake to let him go. It's very very unlikely we'll find a better winger than him. Elokobi I'm not as bothered about. Big wage, average season. He is replaceable. 6th most conceded in the league - apart from one good run of clean sheets we were porous. If James Wilson wanted to go I'd let him too for a small fee. Quote
