Against a team that had already scored 5 goals we lined up with a 3-5-2 formation against a 4-1-4-1 A 3-5-2 formation was even more disappointing when you're defending against a 6'5" striker You'd think that with our starting formation that we were the team having scored 5 goals in a game already !! Only way to stop a 6'5" striker is to stop crosses coming in, yet we play wing backs who are more attacking orientated than defenders. Great formation if you're expecting to comfortably win a game. Those rumours growing day by day since. You’ve got to be a pretty special sort to think none of it will upset the squad. Next time we have a preseason...fuck going off and bonding somewhere. mikeroyboy Posted September 24, 2017 Share Posted September 24, 2017 Not much happened during the summer - again. The likely cause being behind the scenes activity on finance and ownership. Also, apprent short term contracts for some coaching staff. So another season was begun with no real identifiable effort being made to moderately improve our league position. The last two campaigns have begun with novice, underfunded managers. All efforts being put into not losing. Not losing was the basis of success but not scoring became our recipe for relegation. Twice Sheridan has pitched up and introduced a little firepower to turn draws and defeats into wins and draws with extraordinary effect. Sheridan and his staff must be be affected by what's going on. This would also transfer to the players, not least the newcomers. We have, at the moment, the most attacking midfield and forwards for some time. Alas the defence is proving inadequate while we incorporate an attacking ethos. This may well be the coaching staffs fault but Sheridan must surely realise this and so must the owners or potential owners. It is quite possible the club is in a very finely balanced position in respect of changing the manager - Sheridan could quite easily be fearing the worst. It is however early days in the season and poor as it's been we are seeing some attacking football and some quality goals from our club. A little patience is called for right now. Sheridan can see the same things as we can but with a much better chance of turning it around. January could well be another dramatic change of direction for the club - but with the hint of new owners and more than a tenner transfer budget. Keep the faith, for the time being anyway. Particularly for the opposition fans. For whatever reason - it wasn't working with Sheridan. In the end it doesn't matter if that was because (1) Behind the scenes changes distracted him, or (2) He couldn't get the players he signed to perform, or (3) He wasn't in charge of the players. The situation he faced was the situation he had to deal with. Performances, results and press conferences ended up not being good enough. For that reason it's come to an end and he will go back to professionally drinking whilst entertaining the corporate guests at Hillsborough (which according to a guy at work who is a well connected Wednesday-ite he really enjoys) until he gets another opportunity.
