Our front two.

And just to think Davies had been written off as past it and shite by some on here after that game against Oxford because he missed his one and only chance.

Both compliment each other perfectly. Davies hold up play and doing the nasty stuff and Doyle with his movement and work rate

And don't forget lazy. Some loved to call him lazy

Best pairing these two since Warne and Porter, I'd say.

Me and leeslover were trying to remember what the last proper strike partnership we had was. Last one I can think of was Hughes and Alessandra. Alas, I fear we've got no chance of keeping Doyle after Christmas.

Were Davies and Hughes not better? Otherwise Killen and Beckett?

Doyle's a class act and guarantees goals - got to make keeping him & Byrne the priority in January - but always liked Davies, thought Shez binned him off too quickly first time round (but then got him scoring at Chesterfield?!). Holds it up, touch has improved and love to see him bullying defenders, he's setting up plenty and if he's getting goals too that's a bonus. Credit to Shez for bringing him back (and loaning Bryan, Byrne, Doyle...)

Agreed this is our best partnership for years, both of them put a real shift in and given our top scorers have struggled even to reach double figures in recent seasons, long may it last!

He didn't really bin him off did he? We sold him for 6 figures.

Yeah, we got decent money for Davies in the end because he'd signed a contract extension after a good first season, but Shez didn't seem interested in playing him that second year, maybe something off-field. We ended up loaning him out to Stockport - who were in the same division at the time!

I just didn't think we got the best out of him then, hopefully he's making it up for it this time around...

Currently on 16 between them - just for the record, we hit our 16th League Goal last season on 28th January against Bradford City!

My 32nd season this and in that time we've only not had a player hit double figures on THREE occasions. TWO of those have been the last two seasons...wow!

Incidentally, rochdale took their penalty first.

IIRC we brought Andy Liddell on specifically to take a penalty (there was under a minute left) and he didn't take one as we had won 4-3 with a penalty to spare. The assumption was that he was due to take our 5th penalty.

Whilst it’s true we’ve had at least one in double figures for the majority of those seasons; sometimes it’s been a midfielder, and rarely has it been a recognised front two. (Apart from Ritchie and Palmer who did it for three seasons)  Since them it’s been barren to say the least.

These two could be both in double figures by the middle of November if not before.

Happy days.

Excellent work.

Not trying to be a smart arse but 89/90 is even better combined as you've slightly got your maths wrong ?

Actually, thinking back, we went first. Because the rochdale fans didn't boooo or jeer to put the taker off until after we did it for their first penalty.
