A player is only worth what another team is willing to pay...simple. Stevens was good on his day but didn't have enough of them....he was anonymous for plenty of games I saw him play in last season. If we had just paid £375,000 for his services I would be well pissed off!! The club have pleged any incoming money for Dickov's budget and I think Dickov will have had a big say in the decision to let Stevens go......Furman is more than capable of playing the Stevens role and is potentially a better prospect. If we can get that 25 goal striker we all crave....we will have forgotten all about Stevens by August!!

The salary cap agreed at the league AGM last week was long overdue and it's about time football clubs started to live within their budget.........players in the lower leagues have been living in cloud cuckoo land for far too long. Regarding Hazell....I just read this from the M.E.N. “I wasn't asking for much, a couple of hundred quid a week extra and a two-year contract. At this stage of my career I have to look out for myself and I have a family to think about. We actually offered him £100 a week extra and 1 year but he wanted £200 amd 2 years!! Jeez, just a couple of hundred quid a week!!!!! If you or I got a £20 a week rise for next year as a reward for doing your job to a reasonable standard you'd be bloody well ecstatic. It's about time players had a reality check......... Yes, it's a relatively short career but he's had a great lifestyle from something he really enjoys doing... playing football. If he's been sensible and paid a fair whack into his pension he'll be quite comfortable. Ok he may have to cut his cloth accordingly when he retires but he'll be a damn site better off than your average fan!!!

I agree.....there's nobody in the current squad suitable.....during our horrendous second half of the season there was nobody ( including Rubes ) who could steady the ship. If we hadn't had such a good start to the season we'd have gone down, of that I have no doubt whatsoever! I reckon Dickov will be looking for leadership qualities in the players he's trying to bring in, what we need are players like Gregan or Charlton who can command immediate respect and are able to help bring on our talented youngsters. We are far too quiet as a team, Shez said it, and Dickov has said it.......it is a problem we will certainly have to solve if we are to challenge at the other end of the table next season.

From the O.S......The Latics manager says there is no need to worry about the lack of transfer activity. Dickov explained that he is speaking to players who are generally doing the rounds weighing up their options before making decisions. He continued: "I would say to fans there is no need to panic as we have everything in place for the new season. "We are prepared to wait for the right players. If they turn us down because of money then obviously they are not the right players." He wants players who want to play for the club and not the money grabbers.......I think he's one of the shrewdest managers we've had in a long time and if we stick with him I'm confident we'll be competitive. :wink:

Smalley and Allesandra have both been given plenty of time to make the grade and have failed to get into the side on a permanent basis. They will both turn 23 next season and are no longer kids. They have had their fair share of bad luck with injuries at key times especially Allesandra who was performing pretty well early doors this season but I really don't think either of them are consistently good enough for this division. Smalley, along with Whittaker and Davies are banging them in for Chesterfield in league 2 and like O'Grady last season perhaps they've found their true level. They all might return to bit us on the bum next season but somehow I doubt it! Bembo Lita, Brooke, Mcgrath and Hughes are chomping at the bit to make an impact and and I would rather give them the chance to break in to the 1st team next season.

Correct, however, we only had three shots at goal in the 90mins and they were two of them......Taylor and Stephens have 40% of our goals between them, if they both leave at the end of the season who's going to score the goals to keep us up!!!
