  1. At least we signed the one who scored. I would rather sign someone who has not made in the Premiership than in League 1. Give the lad a chance as he could show the promise Moimbe did Saturday.
  2. Nice win with lots of good performances. Moimbé started cautiously and took brakes off second half. Actually looks a good signing. Dummigan his usual self with fine strikefor the first. Byrne is not a left sided midfield player -not his best position. Needed a win and got it.
  3. Disagree. Dummigan has played well. He has been left much of the time to defend without support from anyone in front of him. He also still bombs forward when he can.
  4. Might I respectfully suggest the points are being missed: 1. When Abdallah says he has the final say it is just the same as when your spouse or partner says you have the final say. 2. Wellens has already said the squad is too big. He knows he hasn’t signed the player we desperately need, centre back, and he will probably lose his job as a result. 15 of this squad will not put their foot on the pitch this year and his targets failed through a lack of cash. Stupid is as stupid does.
  5. I'm somewhat confused that re-signing three players who took part in our dismal December form is regarded as strengthening the squad. I accept that without them Bury would soon pass us by. Undoubtedly the delayed takeover made things difficult for Wellens as players might have jumped our way earlier in the month. I agree with his assessment of both players out of contract and, I think, by analogy players who have not had recent game time. There looks to be for example a good player in Pringle but he lacks both match fitness and sharpness ( might never get it back due to his injury). Wellens knows that even with Bryan we are a centre back short because Gerrard is crocked and it is this which will ultimately see us relegated. Simon Corney will be disappointed but somewhat smug.
  6. It would be wrong of me to suggest that the reason why he has not played for so long is that it is way way better than league 1. He has to be one tough small player to do well in our league without game time. I hope he is. Wellens probably knows by now. Lets just see if he starts and if he does give him our support.
  7. In conclusion a team that is leaking poor goals again should drop our only proven defensive midfield player and play Byrne in front of a new untried untested left back just to see how it goes. Nil points.
  8. The problem is that we are short an assistant manager whilst stuffed full with trialists and players who are not good enough so that Wellens must be distracted from the job in hand. He should have been identifying what we need and who is available and concentrating on getting the best out of our match day squad. There would appear to be a lack of focus. 20 players would be easier to handle than 30 +
  9. To show my ignorance (again). Is it usual to have trialists in the January window. Surely this is something you do before the season starts to check on a players form. Shouldn't we be signing players who have played games and who have been assessed by someone for us. Trialists speaks of a van full of people with names we have never heard of before. They are unlikely to be the answer for a team staring at relegation because there is no time to acclimatise to league 1 football.
  10. We seem to have regressed. Size certainly matters and we did start to sign bigger players but appear to be on a downward spiral again. It would be lovely to play our way out of the bottom four but I suspect that will not work.
  11. Can't say where the points will come from but there is no way that Doyle if signed will steer us to winning the last seven or even seven from the last ten. Bury and Rochdale (due to their pile up of fixtures) look like two of the four to drop but where the other two come from is somewhat more difficult to see if one of them is not us. Looks like 50+ points will be needed and that suggests we need 11 from the next 8 games i.e. only losing three....... Now that is depressing as we are not in a good position with the window closing tomorrow. Help!
  12. I suspect Wellens can't do cautious. No doubt, even with our squad, he had some holes to fill but what he tried failed miserably. I suspect he is now under more pressure than he has ever been. The consequence was another three points lost. Can't blame this on Doyle. Has to win Saturday if still in the job.
  13. For those of you still throwing insults remember it is a new era. Look forward not back. We have an owner who knows football. It is clear to me that his vision is first to stay up this season and then to play entertaining football that improves our position as the years go by. It is a vision that takes us all in the direction we want to go. Lets share it and recognise it will take time. As a salesman he recognises the importance of those who put their bums on seats - onwards and upwards even if only slowly and there are some hiccups. Our story continues.........
  14. Its usual to have continuity in business take overs. He will be here as long as Abdallah wants him to be.
  15. If needs must but what irony when he scores an own goal!
  16. The other way of looking at it is that it was nice whilst it lasted. The first nine games put us at so much of a disadvantage that once the new manager bounce wore off (and Jewell added his pearls of wisdom - yes I still think he had a negative impact and knew so made up an excuse to leave) we are where I half expected we might be. If you keep on flirting with relegation it eventually takes you into its arms. So no boiling over just resignation. However I prefer the way we play now and I believe Wellens will keep us up - Northampton could be important.
  17. There is nothing like damn lies and statistics. Shez first nine games in league 1 23 goals at 2.56 per game. Wellens five games before he is made manager on 18 Oct 8 goals at 1.6 per game. Wellens fifteen games since he was made manager 22 goals at 1.47. Teams in league 1 with worse goals conceded record: Oxford 1.48, Fleetwood 1.54, Bristol Rovers 1.57, Northampton 1.69, Bury 1.54 & Southend 1.68. I know we would like to do better but the truth is out there.
  18. Starting with Holloway doesn't seem to get the best out of him. Isn't McEleney injured?
  19. Does he know the way back now he has had two chances and failed to impress?
  20. "In Wellens I trust" - the dreaded vote of confidence. It would be rather ironic if Simon sells his shares and we go down after all these years of survival under his stewardship.
  21. If Fylde can do for Fawns what they seem to have done for Edmundson we are on to a winner.
  22. Last season seemed to take all the spirit out of Holloway as he battled with defenders week in week out. He developed a style of leaning on and holding often ending with him on his backside with no free kick. Under Wellens he has developed into an impact player best suited to starting on the bench. This was shown again last night when coming on at half time he provided the assist for our equaliser. Problem I suspect is that he is using up too much of our budget for that role. Davies or Holloway? I wish him well and hope they can both stay but if one has to go to bring in another striker then I would keep Davies.
  23. Hamer was good and will get stronger. Pringle gets around and is effective. Maouche started poorly but once he got pissed off by being pushed about looked much better. Davies in failing to convert another penalty scored from open play. He does hit it hard then follow it in for the rebound. He also moved very quickly for the cross from Holloway to score the opener. Huth can play because they only have to start six players who are under 21 last 30th June. Vardy could have played. We benefitted because they had the FA cup fixture the day before.
