  1. Another right-footed left back? Although after Wilson's performance yesterday we do need somebody.
  2. Saying you'll sell if the right offer comes along is what all footballers want to hear. The negative comments about Byrne may have been part of an agenda to get him back/put others off signing him. It doesn't appear to have upset Jack much !
  3. No, because the newspapers do make some rumours up or filch them from sites like this for attention which helps sell their crappy papers. Passing on knowingly wrong information is a bit childish.
  4. Fans are more likely to appreciate something that has a basis of truth. Otherwise we can all just make up shit for attention!
  5. I was just a kid when my idol, Bob Ledger, played at Boundary Park but when I started work spoke to a Latics fan who said Bob's dad wrote to the letters column at the Oldham Chron saying "You're breaking my Bobby's heart" after he was dropped for a couple of games. So you see it's not unprecedented for a player's dad to be over-involved in their career.
  6. He's the "mate" no one wants a night out with. Avoid like the plague !
  7. I think most people are just pointing out he's not perfect despite what some posters, and I suspect himself, thinks. Not many have been critical of him with the ball at his feet, it's the other part of the game he's not brilliant at. Some weeks ago people were having a dig at Gardener and Fane, yet they have facilitated Byrne's freedom from responsibility which enabled his talent to flourish. He's a very good player - he's not the Messiah.
  8. Perhaps his workrate and stamina is aided by the fact he very rarely tracks back. No one disputes his ability on the ball, but he does have faults.
  9. Can see a bit of a pattern with this lad, despite his undoubted ability. Maybe our manager is falling in line with others !
  10. Maybe he's talking Byrne down in a hope that no one comes in for him in January so he could end up with us. Plus, as has been mentioned on here previously, his effectiveness has been greatly reduced in the last few matches when he's tried too much on the ball and not enough off it. After all, and I know this may come as a shock to some of us, our manager probably knows a little more about pro football than us no matter how long we've been watching or how many grounds we've visited.
  11. A bit harsh on the lad after the medical problem he's had. He probably needed another pre-season or maybe a little more to get up to speed. If Big Joe thinks he's a player that's good enough for me.
  12. For the last few matches Byrne has overdone the "Hollywood" balls when simpler, more effective options were available. His lack of effort when losing possession perhaps shows why he's at Boundary Park instead of the grander stage his obvious talents may merit.
  13. Roy did say pre-Plymouth that Eoin Doyle may be out a few weeks but didn't state the problem. Don't think anyone from BP has said he's got the "lurgi" the other players have suffered
  14. Amazing how the doom merchants surface after a loss. Just what any Latics fan needs at a time like this, a good dose of negativity !
  15. I never resort to the pies at football matches but have extensive knowledge of heating them up ! Hollands pies need 45 minutes (from frozen) at about 120 C to be sufficiently warm to safely consume so it shouldn't be beyond an adequate caterer to provide enough, even with a game in doubt. However I would echo previous comments regarding getting the game on, especially to fans who cleared the pitch who were rewarded with a great win.
  16. Didn't really know Gordon but two episodes stick in my memory. Late one midweek night in the Noor Jahan many years ago he passed himself off as Ian Stott to the waiters. I never discovered whether it got him better service or bigger portions. At the time North Stand was being built I had a query about Latics Player so called into the club and Gordon arrived at reception and after answering my question asked if I would like to see the new stand. We walked through to the players tunnel and sat in the dugout gazing at the stand and pitch for a few minutes during which time he asked how long I'd been a supporter. When I said since 1965 his reply was "Well you've seen some shit on here then!" As I said I didn't really know him but his humour and obvious love of the club shone through like a beacon. God Bless Gordy.
  17. Thought we really missed Gardner's forward runs last night. He constantly looks and carries the ball upfield which compliments Byrne's passing game. I noticed some people having a dig at him and Fane recently on here and felt our midfield lacked it's usual creativity and fluency. Although Green shaped adequately we missed the mobility and tenacity he brings to our midfield.
  18. Be better off at Upsteps for real ale, more choice and prices much, much cheaper than the ridiculous prices charged at the Rifle Range. If you want a cheap pint try the Blue Club at the bottom of Victoria Street, good pint (cheapest in Chaddy) but no "real ale" on tap, plenty of parking and a ten minute walk from the ground.
  19. Sam said his English isn't very good, his first language is French, so it may be impracticable.
  20. Flynn did bugger all apart from that pass on Tuesday, has had plenty of chances previously without impressing. If Byrne goes in January maybe he would come into the reckoning but he's far too lightweight to justify the regular starting spot his wages warrant.
  21. A certain wallet-wielding Doctor was allegedly spotted on Sheepfoot Lane yesterday. Is he interested in OAFC or ORLFC ?
