  1. The way I look at it, scholes isn't in it for the money, he is down here because he has an affinity with the club so I can't see him leaving for a barnsley or Bristol. He is here for the long haul if successful. As for Al, he ain't gunna plough that money into getting scholes and then scrimp on the budget. Nor is he gunna meddle. I would have thought that was scholes demands on taking the job. Just let him get on with it, and I actually think he will. I don't see any draw backs to the situation at the minute, unless scholes completely bombs as management (by his own making) which is unlikely. Everyone in football wants him to do well and he has so many contacts it's unreal. Its like we have got 1up on every other team in the league. Say your a kid from Wigan or one of the Sheffield club's looking for a loan out. Who are you going to want to play for? Aspin? Askey? Lowe? Tisdale? Or Scholes? It's a no brainer Someone made a comment at the game on Tuesday that all of ALs signings are coming good, and it's hard to disagree. Most of the star performers are his signings. I'm realistic in as much that I know we are still some way off The play offs, but it's not insurmountable. I don't think we will be far off the top of the form table between now and may
  2. Thought Mike Keegan had been relegated, didn't realise we played him this year In all seriousness I see this fixture and take it as a defeat even at the start of the season. Even the win at the hockey stadium was the biggest smash and grab I've ever seen. Worst I've ever seen us play and still come away with a win. I don't know what it is they have over us there but we just can't muster a win.
  3. Why should they? Taking all emotion out of it he is no longer their player and clubs will be insured for their assets in circumstances like this
  4. Baxter is a shadow of his former self these days. I've only really seen him do it in the cup came when he got injured
  5. We have 9%. We have no chance of winning it. But as long as we are in the hat I don't give a flying...
  6. That's why it should only be goal line tech in use. Like the Liverpool goal not given against city And I disagree with that as well if om honest. Football is what it is because it produces so many talking points. This I'm making them for the wrong reasons
  7. How many oldham fans can lay claim to Claudio ranieri calling them a genious?
  8. I missed today. The last 'big' game I missed was forest in the cup. We won there too. I get the feeling I should avoid the big ones (although I saw us beat city, Everton and Liverpool so I can't be that bad) It didn't stop me running round the living room, making the kids cry, and having the wife tell me to grow up. The eldest (2) was imitating me for the next hour singing owtb but still said she would prefer to stay at home with mummy rather than come to BP in the future. I've got a bit of work to do there yet. Latics will always produce emotion no other thing on earth can produce. The instant elation is something that I won't ever part with.
  9. Point for discussion - does making the 4th round make us more attractive for an incoming striker (presuming we get a decent draw) or will most of our targets be cup tied?
  10. Depends what ya need to do to get legend status. Matt Smith did next to fuck all but scored some of the most memorable goals since the century turned. Eyresy, Sheridan, duxbury, to name a few, all great servants but won nowt. Ernie, lived the dream, and was a top bloke, probably remembered more for what happened after us. If you have to win something to be a legend your going right back to the big joe era, but I think there are other exceptions. I do however think those exceptions are few and far between. Not all those I used as examples should be classed as one, but I've heard all them called one in the past.
  11. Cup games are as much about momentum, self belief and romance as they are tactics and quality. I honestly believe putting a new man in charge could be shooting ourselves in the foot. Let's say he gets appointed and we lose 3-0 What does it do for confidence? We lose 3-0 under wild it's a fresh slate monday
  12. Would anyone have a better chance than wild though? He has them working for each other, and has the fans on side. A new guy wouldn't know them and would try to implement his new philosophy, or simply listen to Clarke and wild anyway. Better to have him looking on from the stands. It's one game, we have nothing to lose
  13. Would be a fairy tale if he led us out at Fulham and got the win. Would be wrong to give it the new guy even if we make the appointment before then. It's a no lose situation giving it wild. We win it's fairy tale. We lose, we are no worse off, shake hands and make the announcement Monday morning
  14. Would it not be easier to just throw your weight behind one of the already mentioned local minnows? They already have the infrastructure in place to bypass all the red tape needed for a Phoenix club, and with a few hundred latics fans suddenly appearing on their doorstep every week they could start to make some moves with the extra finance
  15. It'll be an unknown (to us) This time. He has gone with fan pleasing choices (from his point of view) the last 2 times so by now I'm guessing he has his feet under the table and has grown some balls. I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess this time
  16. This would never happen, and it certainly should never happen while oafc is still in existence. It's not a game of champ man where you can press reload game if you lose in the cup final. It is wise to have a war chest I agree. But under no circumstances should we end up in a situation where fc United and United have found themselves. ( mk and Wimbledon is slightly different. I'll support the current guise til my/it's dying day. Only on its death bed would I support a Phoenix club
  17. Lol it was tongue in cheek clearly it wasn't shit any moron could see that.
  18. And we are still shit over Christmas by the looks of things
  19. Can't see them going 442 personally. Think it'll be a fluid 4-5-1/4-3-3 depending if they are on the attack. Their form has dipped recently when playing 442
  20. Topoff We will have lost the shirts off our backs so it's a good a place as any to start
  21. My philosophy - on a similar mantra to his - is: I'm not a football fan. I'm an oldham fan. I couldn't give a toss who.wins the premiership or the fa cup. The cup only matters while we are in it. Don't think I have watched the final in the last 20 years. As for the prem I couldn't even name an 11 in the correct positions
  22. Don't get where these type of posts come from. Is it not obvious we are operating on a shoe string budget? There is no problem with how we play. He is attempting to keep it tight at the back while putting away chances at the other end when they arise. The problem people have is a lack in quality not with playing style. There was no real difference between the Crawley game and the Newport game the way we played we just couldn't take our chance against Newport, yet it's results people look at. We are 6th within touching distance of top. Anyone who complains about that given the last 20 years isn't worth listening too
  23. In this league it's more about how we perform on the day rather than there being a chasm in quality between the teams who inhabit it. If we can find consistency there is no reason we shouldn't look towards 9 points every time 'The next 3' come up, but I'd settle for a consistent 6 which we are hitting at the moment, disregarding the slow start.
