First Signing.

Andy Holt is one of those players I wouldn't mind if we signed. He can cover centre-half (where we've been crying out for cover for ages), full back and unless he's lost his skills he can launch a long-throw which gives us another attacking option- just ask Stoke. I think we can find better but I also think we could do a lot worse.

That's harsh on Black who really looked like he was pushing on towards the end of last season. He was superb at Southampton and Carlisle. As for 'JJ' he IS an attacking full-back but was told to sit-back I know this for a fact as I had a long chat with Kieran Lee at the Wembley dinner, at first he was coy but then readily admitted that Penney wanted them to sit deep nand not push on. It just made me hate the dire Yorkshire tw@t even more...

I agree that Holty may be CB cover, but surely we can do better than a 30 odd year old journeyman and for a position we are well covered for?

I actually liked the look of Black when he made his initial appearances and thought he would make it. The times I saw him last season he looked like the kid in the playground who gets picked last. He was that bad I thought that, for once, I had been wrong.

I do recall reports of him improving - hardly anything to shout about though given he'd been worse than the dropped Jacobson, who is a 250 career appearance lower-league journeyman if ever I saw one.

Then we have Lomax.

Will believe this when I see it.

IF it happens, then I imagine either JJ or Black will be on their way, as there is no way a club on a limited budget can have afford specialist left backs

Please will somebody argue with me? I'm feeling a touch obnoxious.

Stop being obnoxious; you poo head!

On this Holt 'signing' - as has been said; you'd hope we could look to bring in better; but make no mistake; we could do a hell of a lot worse.

He gives us 3 positions; his outright LB position; cover in the CB department and at LM too. If he still has his throw; that is a weapon we haven't had since Haining (and Allott when he was allowed to take them). Not an old man by any stretch at 30 years young too.....

It's a nod to the type of signings we can expect; but it's really not the end of thworld - he's a more than solid player who will be just fine......

If Holt is coming in I'm certain Jacobson or Black are going out.

Maybe Black - on loan?

I would say JJ will be told to find a new club

Smaller budget will more than likely mean smaller squad, meaning we need players who are consistently fit, a category which JJ most definitely does not fall into

I hope so. It's been a terrible day for me. First I'm told we're signing Andy Holt, then I find myself watching a sex tape featuring Screech from Saved By The Bell. Then I pull my hamstring picking up a Curly Wurly from Wrags in Royton.

News that JJ may be moving on may just perk up my day a tad.

Before arriving at Latics he'd only ever missed 7 (seven) games through injury. From the horses mouth.

Was it as good as the X Pac/Chyna one?

Who, joe jacobson??? Think he missed alot more than that????

And I only hazarded a guess as to which leftback would be told to go, if we did sign andy holt, which I will still believe when i see

EDIT: I know Purdie was most defo not injury jinxed before they came here, but Jacobsons spell at Bristol Rovers was plagued with injury, Pav had a hernia op whilst at Darlington,.

You keep on saying 'told to go', when I feel you mean 'asked to go'.

I'm no insider, but I'm guessing with dropping finances, wages of crap players will hardly be on the up. Unless of a surprising offer for a mediocre player with an injury hit past he'll be going nowhere.

I'd also be stunned if we signed a fourth(ish) left back.

What I was getting at was there is no way a club on a small budget has room for three specialist left backs. Hence IF we are signing Andy Holt then either Black or Jacobson will be 'asked' to leave, or told they are not in the managers plans. My guess is that it would be jacobson because:

1) Higher wages than Black

2) We can't rely on his fitness

finally we might have someone that can cross a ball from the left

.....and not have to constantly try to cut inside and then beat the man 6 times, before giving up and playing a square or backwards pass (sorry Chris).....

I don't think re-signing Holty would be a bad move, providing JJ or Black (preferably JJ) leaves.....
