deyres42
Who were the last ones to breakthrough and have a sustained run/impact in the first team?
beag_teeets
Gerrard & John Eyre.
rudemedic
Tipton or Allott as opposed to John Eyre. Eaves had an impact in the first team without ever really getting a sustained run.
oafcprozac
Scott Vernon top scorer in 2003/04 and double figures despite only playing a bit part the year after. Miskelly but for his nightmare in the Play Offs was mostly ok as an able deputy to Gary Kelly/Pogs 1998-2003 (26 appearances) but you do have to go back to Gerrard for an out and out number one... longtimeblue
Not his biggest fan but can't forget Vernon. Was more recent than others mentioned. Gerrard last keeper though.
BP1960
According to Wikipedia Chris Hall made 36 appearances scoring 4 goals, he's now at Stalybridge Celtic and a television actor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Michael_Hall Edited May 13, 2013 by BP1960
welshgaz
Vernon has gone on to have a pretty good career. I would have him back.
oafcmetty
Smalley made over 100 appearances. Mostly on the wing I'd guess though.
oldhamandy1
How many lower league clubs can ask that same question, I think our record for bringing players through is above average. It is risky to put young players in those specialised positions, most get released before they get a chance to prove they have enough to offer. jsslatic
I was watching Shameless the other night (catching up from having never watched it until a few months ago) and Chris Hall was in it.
Oh Heck C-Beck
Vernon was a good player I thought. Would have been sad to see him go normally but Wellens coming the other way more than made up for him moving on.
Bristolatic
Goalkeeper: Andy Gorton could have been THE one if he hadn't been a Grade A tit. Striker: I take you back to the days when they were called centre forwards. The 50s and Don Travis. Born in the area (Hollinwood or Failsworth, I think) and was better than a goal every other game. Bert Lister from the 60s was also a local lad and his goals to games ratio was incredible. Prozac? I know they didn't come through the yoofs (the wasn't one in those days) but I'd give anything to have someone like these three at BP again. BP1960
In the 1970s big Jim Steel came through the Latics youth set up ,108 appearances 24 goals and although classified as an attacking midfielder Ian Robins scored 40 goals from 220 appearances, he did even better when at Huddersfield scoring 59 in 159 appearances. (I underestimated him and never realised he was so prolific). Edited May 13, 2013 by BP1960
