Hay rejects Latics as player coach

Recommended Posts

Prozac got me thinking before that the salaries we are offering might be low. May explain the lack of activity, I'm sure he would of brought his family down if the package was attractive enough.

Success with Paul Murray and Byrne last season have probably convinced LJ that player-coaches can work so I'd expect at least some young coaches, perhaps some still playing, coming in between now and the start of the season.

I'd still like him to have an experienced head alongside him though, as he had with TP last season.

Everything smacks of the wage bill being kept as low as possible until takeover is completed.

No it doesn't!

You can read into things like that if you want, it wouldnt be unusal for posters on this board to read into things that are not there to suit themselves

Maybe he just didn't want to leave Scotland?

Just since January - Furman, Croft, Simpson, Mvoto, Cisak, Smith, Dickov, Taggart, Butler, Duxbury, Gerrard all left.

I'd say it's more a point of how much money has been saved due to all the above leaving. A few of those would have been on a decent wedge. Especially Simpson, Croft and M'voto (Although we're still currently paying him as he's still contracted until the end of June)

Furman - Wanted away during the time in which we needed him - not due to budget.

Croft - Offered contract, wanted to play at highest level he can - not due to budget.

Simpson - Offered a lower deal, wouldn't drop down - partially budget caused, partially on too much in the first place.

M'Voto - Been offered a deal, presumably with slightly better/same terms - not wholly budget related.

Cisak - Has wanted away since about Septemper - not budget related.

Smith - Offered a better deal at Leeds, always going to take it - wouldn't have stayed anyway whatever the budget - Not budget related.

Dickov, Taggart, Butler, Duxbury - not performing, sacked/resigned - not budget related.

Gerrard - Pissed around by the club, probably wanted more security - not budget related as such.

that is practically the team that almost took us down.

No tears from me, except frustration. That team should have challenged.

Was Gerrard messed around?

Well we sacked him but required him to work his notice period while his mates could put their feet up while being paid.

We effectively promoted him to first team duties but presumably paid him nothing extra for this.

We seemed slow to ask him to stay to the end of the season (his termination date was the end of March) and we seemed slow to offer him a contract for the new season.

I think he's been messed around. I'd feel a bit confused and alienated if my employer did that to me.

That's gleaned from reading the headlines. No idea what else went on.
