As if Rooney and Philiskirk hadn't scored against Wolves in the cup they'd have beaten us. Our game against Mansfield would have been a lot different if Philliskirk hadn't scored either (less so regarding Rooney). Leaving aside the money we made from getting lucky in the draw and being on TV, we made £18,000 and £27,000 (£45,000 in total) from winning our first and second round games in the FA cup respectively. Not with me it doesn't Stevie. I saw more than enough of Rooney to realise that he wouldn't cut it here. I am more worried that the manager can't see that JCH is our biggest threat going forward. He's scoring in the conference, not league one. MacDonald, Philliskirk & JCH would score for fun in conference. 2. Scoring hatricks in the conference is a different task to scoring them in League 1. I'm not saying we shouldn't have a punt (everyones favourite term) on a non-league goal-scorer, but there's no guarantee that he'd come in and bag here. He might come in and score once in 40 games. What points that he is better than any of our current lot? Halifax want a fee for him. £200K was quoted when Peterborough were quoted as looking to table a bid. Plus a signing on fee. Then weekly wages to at minimum match his current dual wage; but more realistically improve them. How & why would we ever commit to that level of investment on a completely unproven player? Anyway - in the perenial clamour for us to sign a non-league player; we have done. Rhys Turner. And he'll have been a mere fraction of the cost to bring in over what Gregory would have cost us. Think we should be focusing on supporting the development of this young lad, who is now our player; rather than still harp on about a player who isnt and likely wont be, ours.
