Hands on
In that wonderful friendly appearance Paul Dickov. You just had to admire him coming on to attack those central defenders.
KingJimFryatt
Nearly all defenders mentioned so far, but it take a forward with guts to play with your back to some physical.aggressive defenders without being bullied. Andy Ritche and Rodger Palmer never hid. And you would't mess with Big Vic Halom - you wouldn't even want him to stare at you.
BP1960
Anyone remember George Edgar Smollet Sievewright? no opponent in their right mind would come within 10 yards of George, or risk dismemberment
100milesaway
Alan lawson, although not big in stature, he was made of IRON, indeed we used to call him "IRON MAN". Must say though, before Lawsons time at Latics there was a bloke called Brian Jarvis he was also as tough as nails.
manshaw
Connor Brown makes me laugh. He doesn't seem frightened of anyone.

milnrow latics
Only two in the frame, Alan Lawson or George Sievewright. The hardest has to be Lawson though.

owdumer
Before my time but Jimmy Fryatt looked like someone not to mess with. My old mum used to call him "a big girl's blouse" Shouted at him from the Chaddy ,(much to my mortification!)

eyres_28
Wish players would react like Pointon did there. Amazing that the commentators said it was definitely worth a yellow - how times have changed! Edited March 3, 2015 by eyres_28
stewrat
The hardest in my sixty years was an 'hopeless player called Sandy Wann. He had thighs bigger than any other footballers chest. I remember arriving after half time at York with Oldham 1 goal up. (train had derailed). As I walked onto the ground the York winger took the ball past our fullback and went into a tackle with Wann. Both players had a foot either side of the ball. There was an explosive crack and a scream. With a perfectly legitimate tackle Wann had broken the wingers leg in two places. No subs in those days so after a very long stoppage York had to play with ten men and just tried to defend. Oldham happy with one nil just defended and it was the most boring half a game I have ever watched.
