palmer1
Write uo say league match, it was the Littlewoods Cup. Bunn, who was playing for Oldham when he scored the goals, still holds the record for the most goals scored in a league match twenty six years later. What is it? ' lazy journalism!' They brought quite a lot - best part of 1000 I think. And I think it was reduced admission prices - and the League Cup did have higher profile then

palmer1
also seem to remember the scarboro manager coming out with the "its only Oldham " after the live draw on the telly Yeah they were hoping for a 'big club' and they filmed the draw. There was an audible groan when they realised they were coming to BP. He said they would 'give us a game anyway'. I guess they changed their minds

And I think it was reduced admission prices - and the League Cup did have higher profile then Seem to remember that as they had beaten Chelsea there was quite a lot of media coverage, albeit mainly about Scarborough. Plus as Pete says reduced admission prices, and I am sure there was quite a bit of optimistic feeling on the terraces about what our squad could achieve. stargazer
Scarborough beat Chelsea in the previous round. The draw was made on the highlights show after their game ...... someone made a flippant comment about 'where is Oldham ?'...... My mate brought his boss to the game .......despite being a Leeds fan , he became a regular attendee at the goalfests over the next few years. It could've been amazing. Throw in Stockport and Altrincham...Greater Manchester Athletic could be getting beat every week in the Champions League right now just like United and Citeh. Visionary.
