Kusunga_Is_God
First half thought we were impressive. Surridge proved a real handful and Maouche was winning balls well in midfield. Threw away the lead with some shocking defending and then threw away a point with some more bad defending. Ran out of steam and the combination of our best players going off and Barnsley bringing on their best players completely killed us in the end. On that showing I think Maouche deserves to start against Newport, Zeus seemed more than capable couldn't really do much for the goals and Lang should possibly start ahead of O'Grady. b0ndl1ne
That game shows the difference when you have two mobile pacey strikers closing down from the front. Defenders get a free pass when they’re facing O’Grady as they get all the time in the world. Surridge and Lang is without the best front pairing

Clarke back in defence and as KIG says, give Maouche the nod for midfield. Can't see this happening, though.

Kusunga_Is_God
It's not like Lang isnt fit or anything he's had a full pre-season with Wigan. Should start ahead of O'Grady on Saturday. Need some pace. I

I don't believe he will but maybe a half-time change, if things are not going Latics' way.

O’Grady specifically made things much worse. Agree 110% with other posts, Surridge and Lang far superior and actually make things happen. Flemboy
Disappointed with the result tonight but not with the teams performance .From start to finish they all put in a shift.Surridge and Lang ran their socks off up front and Surridge took his goal really well.Barnsley won it with two scrappy goalsfollowing goalmouth scrambles which should have been cleared . This team and the way we are playing and the stamina should be rewarded with at least a play off. Looking forwards to seeing this squads progress.

Something wrong with Baxter, he's had a couple of months to get fit and looks no nearer. Why play him deep tonight when he's so much off the pace he was always liable to be caught in possession? Hope that doesn't happen again. Poor contributions from the other subs Gardner and O'Grady too. Pleasing performances from Maoche, Taylor, Surridge and Lang in particular. Where's Miller, what's his injury problem? Edited September 4, 2018 by BP1960

I assume the idea was to have Baxter playing deeper so we could get hold of the ball a bit more. Backfired a bit...

welshgaz
Special mention for Lang who ran his bollocks off. Should partner Surridge on Saturday. Edited September 4, 2018 by welshgaz

Kind of sums how desperate it is when you have to say within a game how good someone is 'again' Never heard it said of Baxter, Doyle or Byrne .. youngen
Lost the game last night due to a combination of no leadership clearing simple balls away for the goals, and Bunns horrendous subs/tactical changes. Took 2 energetic strickers off (rightly to rest for Saturday), and replaced with O Grady on his own who was completely exposed and couldnt get into the game. Bizarrely played Baxter deep and Gardner behind O Grady, and left Benteke wide. No one outside of the club really gives a shit about the result, but last night was Bunns fault at the end why we lost. Hopefully we beat Newport to justify the resting of the players.

I assume FB was experimenting with tactical substitutions, but it obvious after 10 minutees of constantly being caught in possesion it wasnt working so Baxter and Gardner should have switched roles. Another square peg in a round hole last night with Benteke on the right wing. Graham too at right back last Saturday.
