Same here. It's about time the media learned the difference between 'Latics' and 'The Latics'.

I'm sure this site will have seen this debate a few times before, but I'm not sure what the matter is with non-supporters saying 'the Latics'.

With it being a nickname it makes sense to have a preceding 'the'. You'd never call Everton 'Toffees' without the 'the', same with Arsenal and Gunners, Sunderland and Black Cats, Newcastle and Toon/Magpies etc.

Although when it comes to a Latics fan saying 'the Latics', then I'm stumped!

Wasn't our club shop called "The Latics"

Let's not also forget that "The Latics will do anything for Oldham"

woo woo woo woo

Back in the day, when Oldhamers didn't sound like Mancs when speaking, 'Latics' became the colloquial pronunciation of the 'Athletic' part of the Club's name, rather than a completely different nickname as in 'Toffees'. Effectively, the club could be said to be Oldham Latics, but not Oldham The Latics.

The Club used to get it wrong with

but eventually corrected it with

Re The Boys in Blue - what do you expect from someone who used to be Chairman of Rochdale AFC?

The media is having a confused kind of day. According to sky Gerrard is likely to play against Chelsea tomorrow after being rested for Liverpool's cup tie against us at the weekend.
