Aarondo Westy
Whilst not johnsons biggest fan he had a chance of taking us into the play offs I can only see this major upheaval having a bad effect for the rest of the season. If the chairman really wanted this club to progress he would of told Barnsley where to go. There Is more ambition in oldham job centre than oldham athletic!! Whilst corney is our chairman we ain't going up. No doubt corney is still the messiah in the eyes of some, just not in mine

Ryan
I criticise the current ownership a lot. But what could they do if Johnson wanted out? As for selling the club, he has been trying to do so for years.
NewBlue
Johnson was clearly desperate to go. He said in his Barnsley press conference they were right to take him before a Championship club does. #kony2015
PlayItLivo
Johnson really should have been put on gardening leave until it was resolved. No way the club should have let him take charge against Orient whilst he was busy putting together an 100 page dossier on his aspirations for Barnsley. ajw65
The club could have put this to bed by telling Barnsley where to go - like others did. LJ was contracted to us - end of. No ambition shown by the club and once again no consideration for us the fans...
no1laticsfan
I agree. Johnson has been the best appointment in years and we finally looked like we were on the up. Maybe not this season but certainly over the next 2/3 seasons. Corney had a manager that he should of kept hold of at all costs. Johnson was happy at oldham. If he hadn't of been approached by barnsley he would still be here. Cheers Corney.
Hands on
It would add insult to injury if we loan them Liam Kelly until the end of the season with a sale inked in for later. I'm afraid Corney has had enough, wants to finish the stand and get out. Clearly no one inside Boundary Park thinks we can make the playoffs and get promoted as then he would have had something much better than a new stand to sell. BlueMink
He used the same 100 page dossier that he used to get the Oldham job. Exact same plan he used 2 years ago. Just changed a few names. He's probably running off another copy ready for his next move on in 2 years. (Irrespective of a 3 year contract).
mickjagger
Sounds like Johnston wanted to go albeit timing being awful. Compensation agreed of 200k if correct, will go towards finishing the stand, which is crucial to the clubs long term future, so if you was in Corneys shoes, how many would do anything different given the financial constraints? We'll I wouldn't of let him take charge of the orient game when us fans spent a whole lot of money traveling hundreds of miles to support our team and manager, and he knew he was off and let's be honest us losing that game was a result that went well for a late charge for Barnsley. When will some fans realise corney is not god. Sooner he sells up the :censored:ing better

Blue_Guru
It's the start of Corneys milking the club process before he also jumps ship!! We will be asset less by the end of summer. Except for an empty new stand Edited February 25, 2015 by Blue_Guru
doctor evil
It's the start of Corneys milking the club process before he also jumps ship!! We will be asset less by the end of summer. Except for an empty new stand He'll take that with him too, He's killing this club. Allowing the best manager ever to leave for what 200k. And then he appoints holden forever, he's never managed before. How can we expect to succeed, its a disgrace, corney out, acoustics.

I understand peoples disappointment in the short term, i believe Johnston wanted to go as he sees this as an opportunity to bigger & better things, so Corney is protecting the clubs interest by maximizing our compensation. 200k compensation if that is the correct figure will go a long way to finishing the new stand, which is essential for the club long term. help_shiny
if only Corney could encourage the owners of the land to bring the two assets together. If only he knew who those mysterious figures were. Ah well, I guess he's stuck with a club nobody wants to buy
mikejh45
Some of the posts on this thread are extremely naïve!!! If Johnson wanted to go then what could Corney really do stop him? If Corney had said no, Barnsley would have still talked to him and he would have resigned leaving Latics with nowt....nada....zip......f*ck all. So Corney made sure we got compensation for him. The only bit I do agree with is the argument regarding gardening leave.
laticsmarra
Not happy with the timing of LJ going ,but I suppose if you were working for a business with no money,up for sale and you could have a new boss soon, you wouldn't need much convincing to move on for more money. Unfortunately the £200,000 won't go to the club. Abolsutely no chance of that. The only reason he's let this happen is for him to claw some money back from the club. The guys a :censored:. opinions4u
That's not how contracts work mike. Contracts can work in numerous ways. Long term, :censored: wage, cheap buyout clause that we have to tell any affected party about is one.

However even Simon wouldn't have given him one that allowed him to resign one day and walk into a new job the next without any compensation. Surely?
